Longstanding Spanish talent Dennis Cruz achieves a career milestone this October with the release of his debut album, Roots. The ten-track LP draws inspiration from Cruz’s life experiences, resulting in a body of work that encapsulates the sounds and musical styles that have led him to where he is today.

Dennis spoke on what this moment represents, stating: "I wanted to work on a broader project, the cornerstone of my artist career, and this is what Roots is. The album is a convergence of influences taken from music that I've been listening to all my life, from funk, salsa, and flamenco to house and disco. I am so happy this project could finally come to life. I want to thank the several friends and artists that worked on it with me; Damian Lazarus for believing in it from the beginning and helping it reach the world on Crosstown Rebels." - Dennis Cruz

The journey begins with La Ratonera, a Spanish-themed cut that sets the tone with a warm underlying groove and P. Rivas’ enchanting vocal hooks. Los Tamales soon arrives, released as a July single ahead of the album, before Good Old Days completes proceedings on the A Side. A collaboration with minimal-maestro Ian Ludvig, the result is a stripped-back dancefloor number that feels ripe for the late night hours.

Ecua takes charge on the B Side, upping the tempo with resonant kick-hat combos and plenty of flamenco-inspired swing. What U Doing comes next, as Leo Wood’s harmonic vocal tones perfectly complement Cruz’s hard-edged, groove-led bassline, opening neatly into Bend. The three-minute piece showcases the Spaniard’s love of jazz and salsa throughout.

We’re treated to another piece of teamwork on Go Down, with iconic Jamaican singer Lee Scratch Perry featuring on top of a low-slung, rhythmic backbone, paving the way for Ahora Todo Va (Dub). Josh Butler’s influence can be felt right from the get go, as four-four drum patterns converge on spicy, latin-fuelled lyrical samples.

Te Quiero Cantar acts as the penultimate track, bringing us more funky, house-driven flavours before Back Again brings things to an ebullient close. The final collaborative offering with Iuliano Mambo takes us on a journey through punchy percussion and swinging synth build ups, rounding off an eclectic body of work that looks set to light up dancefloors across the world this year.

Roots showcases the many facets of Dennis Cruz’s production capabilities. The album embodies the life experiences that have defined his career; the moments of progression and elation, from fresh-faced up-and-comer to established musical presence. At the heart of the LP lies an inherent Spanish theme - a nod to the country and culture that Dennis calls home. It’s playful, joyful and built to make people dance, three traits personify this talented producer today.

Italian DJ and producer VALENTINØ makes his debut on ARTCORE this February, with a killer 2 track original release showcasing his trademark hypnotic melodies and frenetic rhythms. With past releases on Second State, Suara and Materia, he also is the co-founder of Mantra Club in Genoa and runs his own label Overtime Records. You’ll find him playing some of the ARTCORE Showcases that Indira Paganotto announced last month, alongside Indira herself, Chris Liebing, Ben Klock...

From the brooding beginnings of ‘Baba Baby’ it becomes clear that whilst VALENTINØ has sought to embody the ARTCORE aesthetic within the EP title track, he is just as earnest in his commitment to producing fast and unsparing techno. Following a cocktail of deftly layered drums comes the crackling of fireworks to signal take-off for a mercurial rush through a dark lunar journey dispersed by unearthly vocals, frazzling synths, and pummelling bass.

Up next, ‘My Mind’ wastes no time in thundering into gear with bruising intensity and little sympathy for those unprepared. VALENTINØ’s cerebral understanding of his craft allows for a distinct take on quintessential techno as off-kilter drum-breaks and eyebrow raising effects – such as the “surprise” – add oodles of character and dashes of colour to an otherwise shadowy soundscape.

It's clear why VALENTINØ’ has been selected for the boundary pushing imprint’s next release as looks to further establish her already compelling reputation through ARTCORE’s artist roster.

Released on 22nd April, Indira’s next big release, the 3rd of her own to grace ARTCORE is a trance-tinged techno offering, that's had plenty of dancefloor approval.

Indira Paganotto and her ARTCORE imprint stand out from the crowd with an exponential sense of uniqueness, front-running pioneers of the new Psy-influenced techno boom. Indira’s upcoming release ‘Gypsy Queen’ is another perfect example of how she has garnered so much love and support for her unique vibe and ethos to date.

Title track ‘Gipsy Queen’ begins in eccentric fashion. A gentle strumming of flamenco guitar lines, a distorted chorus of castanets and an enchanting vocal open the track to remain a key feature throughout waves of razor-sharp synths and hurtling drums sequences. The dips in pace are beautifully accompanied by the stirring vocals but before long the flamenco
influences are overrun by the trance-tinged techno Indira is famous for.

The out of body like energy summoned by the strings and haunting effects of ‘Vendetta’ offer a different audio experience to that offered by the EP’s title track. With a visceral intensity that becomes more acute following each drop there are several curious effects and tones at play to make for a somewhat dramatic techno heavy melody.

This was the last thing I recorded in the studio sessions. I had some time left, and - rather than pick through my old takes with a fine toothed comb - I decided to improvise a rhythm and lead track. This rhythm was something I had been playing around with that afternoon. I did one pass with an intro, and recorded the lead on top. We ended up keeping the first take of the lead as well. It holds the spirit of improv in that way.

Leftfield is a British electronic music group formed in 1989 in London, England. The group initially consisted of Paul Daley and Neil Barnes, before Daley left in 2002, leading to the group's dissolution, and then his return with Barnes as the sole leader in 2010.


They were among the first to fuse house with dub and reggae, thus giving birth to progressive house. They were pioneers in integrating vocals into electronic music.


In 1995, their album Leftism managed to reach the third place in the UK sales chart. In 1999, the album Rhythm And Stealth reached the top of the English charts.

The Spanish house and techno scene has arguably never been stronger than it is now. From Andres Campo to John Talabot and Javier Carballo, a raft of internationally-acclaimed artists have emerged from the country over the past few years. On a label front, it’s hard to ignore the work of LNDKHN. Founded 2 years ago now, the label has sprung out of nowhere to become one of Beatport’s most popular such labels. Helmed by Ignacio Benitez AKA Landikhan, their modus operandi revolves around top class electronica, the likes of which appeals to a wide range of DJs.

To celebrate 2 years of music, the label has put together an impressive V/A, consisting of work from an array of artists affiliated with the label for some time. Up first is Uji’s remix of Landikhan & Nina Indigo’s ‘Santa Medicina’, a killer opener which showcases the label’s liking for deeper pastures. The Balearic stylings of Baiuca’s remix of Kermesse’s ‘Dub Kantine’ is another welcome addition. Baiuca is an electronic artist who combines electronica and traditional music from Galicia: where electronica meets Galician music! Unsurprisingly, this track immediately transports the listener to the heart of the Balearics.

Elsewhere, Kyrill & Redford’s Late Night mix of Holed Coin’s ‘Famous Stranger’ is a stirring, dramatic, hypnotic cut with off-kilter samples that’s definitely made with true tech-house heads in mind, before Alvaro Suarez turns in a cracking remix of Landikhan & Caravaca’s ‘Traversata’. A synth-heavy interpretation that’s full of classy Latin vibes, it’s a smart remix that’s in keeping with the label’s Spanish heritage, and is a track that closes this record with a familiar poise.

So, being in a lockdown these past few days has given me an opportunity to finally get this idea of a remix done, something I have always wanted to give a go to. It ended up I was positively surprised with the results I got so I decided to put it up as a free download to let everyone hear it - and also to try and help make the current scenario a little bit better with some new free music. 

I've always felt like Billie's "bury a friend" style echoes a lot with what I want to put forward as my musical identity, so it was only natural that I felt the urge to give this track my own touch as soon as I heard it for the first time. So here it finally is!

Hopefully you'll like what you hear as much as I liked seeing what this idea gradually developed into.
