Bem-vindo to another journey into Brazilian music. 

I: have done a few mixes of Brazilian beats and sounds now for Gouranga over the years. This one I have chosen to call the Bem Gelada Mix. This phrase is what you say in Brazil when you want to make sure the beer you are going to drink is super cold. And of course it must always be bem gelada as they don’t drink it any other way!

Many Brazilian people face massive challenges every single day, however I strongly believe that still they know how to enjoy their lives more than in any other place in the world I have ever been. They know how to live a good life whatever their circumstances. A boa vida. And that is often because of the small things that make life good, like making sure your beer is bem gelada, that you are always a good friend and surround yourself with good people, that you dance whenever you can and enjoy good music, and of course go to the praia whenever is possible.

So I hope you enjoy the songs I have chosen. Not so much a mix as a blend of wonderful music as I dig deeper into the music of this marvellous country.

I had planned to post this in the New Year as this first instalment of Dub Disco Deli (recorded in 2008) has never been on SoundCloud, but I decided to upload it today in memory of Terry Hall. His music didn't just awaken me musically, it ignited my political awareness and educated me about the importance of social justice in a manner that was far more tangible than anything I learnt in the classroom. RIP Terry, your spirit lives on. x

to building a space in time where people can get
together, experience musical journeys and feel like they

online database and network of women*, AFAB,
transgender, transfeminine, transmasculine, intersex
[+gender optional], genderqueer, gender nonconforming,
a-gender and/or non-binary DJs, musicians, composers,

Ep. 160! We are very pleased to present an episode of Bside Incoming from the Edinburgh disco legend and Ghetto Disco boss: Natasha Kitty Kat.

Her pedigree as crate digger (growing up in a disco and soul obsessed family) is matched by her passion and technical ability behind the turntables, with a notoriety that has lead her to DJ at Glitterbox, Suncebeat Festival Croatia, Ocean Beach Ibiza, New York’s House of Yes, London’s iconic Printworks and Ministry of Sound, and Supernova Seattle.

Natasha boasts tracks released on Glitterbox Recordings, Tropical Disco Records, The Basement Discos and Midnight Riot to name a few, with support from the likes of Louie Vega and even previous guest Marcel Vogel. While her own imprint, Ghetto Disco Records, moves from strength to strength with house and disco intended for the dance floor. 

If you’re looking for a dose of disco, we’ve got you covered; from the sweet and soulful, the sexy strings, all the way to the funky basslines and of course some staccato synth italo rhythms.
Expect soul, downtempo disco, irresistible vocals, and sunny vibes.

At BLD, we like to think we know our stuff, so we're delighted to bring you the second episode of Killer Boogie (which melted the airwaves of myhouseradio.fm)

De Gama brings back his new project with Black Light Disco for its second outing, and for this one he has brought in the supremely talented DJ, producer and all round genius, LTJ X-perience. 

De Gama will be kicking the first hour off in style - laying down the law and taking no prisoners. There’s a lot packed into this hour, with tracks from The Reflex, Paul Older, Lego Edit plus many more (including one from the main man himself, LTJ.)

And in hour 2, De Gama hands over to that main man, LTJ X-perience - aka Luca ‘LTJ’ Trevisi, aka LTJ Edits. LTJ trained as a DJ producer at the end of the 80s. Resident first at the Kinki Club in Bologna and then at the Cap Creus in Imola, he is one of the first Italian DJs to produce House music and his style weaves intricate webs of jazz grooves, Latinbossa and classic tracks from the 70s which, over time have paved the way for Acid Jazz and Rare Grooves. Tracks such as “I Don't Want This Groove To Ever End” (2012), “Ain't Nothing But A Groove” (2013), “ Don't Let The System Get You Down” (2015) and “Beggar Groove” (2017) highlight LTJ's more funk and groovy side.

@thesecretsoulsociety, aka Cal Gibson, is a modern master at flipping samples from all over the globe to create a hazy shimmering sun infused sound. At times psychedelic and always packed with groove and intrigue aplenty. Following on from a series of brilliant EP’s and singles via Citizens of Vice, Paper Recordings, Slightly Transformed and Rare Wiri he has now delivered a classy 15 track album 'Keep The Mystique' on the excellent Italian label @hell-yeah.

To celebrate the release of the album we invited Secret Soul Society back to the Le Visiteur decks and asked him to craft us a Balearic Sunset mix. As you would expect from Cal it’s rather brilliant.

Obsessed with disco music since she was a kid, thanks to the influence of her mother, she literally grew up with spaghetti and Italo disco.
She loves creating her own authentic music style fully shaped by her taste and personality, mixing Hi-NRG Disco with diverse house, cosmic and balearic vibes.

Her mission is making Disco glamorous and exciting again and bringing the dancers on a fresh, sweaty, fun and always a “little bit italian” journey.

Regarded as one of London’s “leading disco labels”, The Disco Express first began as a monthly loft party in March 2017; hosting the globe’s biggest house & disco DJs at the former 1940's Shoreditch railway station.

Evolving into a full-fledged record label and event series in 2020, The Disco Express is now a revered platform for nu-disco and soulful dance music. Working with the scene’s most talented up-and-coming artists, DJs and remixers, the label has established a global fanbase, distributing vinyl, merch, and music to over 50 countries worldwide. Consistent high quality releases and edits have garnered support from the likes of Nightmares On Wax, Purple Disco Machine, The Blessed Madonna, Crazy P, TSHA, Folamour, Dan Shake, Groove Armada, Sarah Story (Radio 1) and Basement Jaxx. 

Holding down residencies in London, Berlin and NYC, The Disco Express also plays host to events further afield in Milan, Rome, Trondheim and Paris. Celebrating their 50th release as a label in May 2023, The Disco Express endeavour to support new underground artists from across the globe as well as working with legends of the dance music scene Barbara Tucker, John Morales, Michael Gray, Michelle Weeks, Art of Tones and most recently Dave Lee. The Disco Express is building a strong catalogue of original disco for 21st century dance floors and this train ain't slowing down anytime soon...
