In the last years, Matóba (Rotterdam, NL) found his love for disco & house. His performances rapidly propelled him in two years onto the bigger stages like Paaspop, Folie Douce and the Onderzeebootloods. Armed with a big smile and a dose of infectious energy, he released his first single on his own label in 2023 named “Your Mind Says?”, marking the start of more releases to come. His sound, best described as “heading to the jungle on rollerskates”, combines afro & tropical percussion with groovy beats and vocals. You can find yourself singing along during his sets thinking, “Do I know this song?”. That’s the power of genre fusions with influences from artists like Dam Swindle, Folamour and Bellaire.

"Having been from Amsterdam, to London and Barcelona, I have always loved going to Disco/House concepts and get inspired with the different grooves within the genre. This was where my festival Stranded was born in The Netherlands.

Regarded as one of London’s “leading disco labels”, The Disco Express first began as a monthly loft party in March 2017; hosting the globe’s biggest house & disco DJs at the former 1940's Shoreditch railway station.

Evolving into a full-fledged record label and event series in 2020, The Disco Express is now a revered platform for nu-disco and soulful dance music. Working with the scene’s most talented up-and-coming artists, DJs and remixers, the label has established a global fanbase, distributing vinyl, merch, and music to over 50 countries worldwide. 

Consistent high quality releases and edits have garnered support from the likes of Nightmares On Wax, Purple Disco Machine, The Blessed Madonna, Crazy P, TSHA, Folamour, Dan Shake, Groove Armada, Sarah Story (Radio 1) and Basement Jaxx. 

Holding down residencies in London, Berlin, Paris, Mexico City and NYC, The Disco Express also plays host to events further afield in Bristol, Milan, Rome, Copenhagen and more.. 

Celebrating their 50th release as a label in May 2023, The Disco Express endeavour to support new underground artists from across the globe as well as working with legends of the dance music scene Barbara Tucker, John Morales, Michael Gray, Michelle Weeks, Art of Tones and most recently Dave Lee.

Matóba has rapidly become a disco-house powerhouse in the club and festival scene over the past two years. His sets have swiftly elevated him to larger stages, from Paaspop and 7th Sunday to Folie Douce in Val Thorens. You can bet your voice will be hoarse and your body drenched in sweat as you grab an Uber home at the end of the night.

Matóba started performing at the age of 17 in his hometown, experimenting with mixing a wide variety of genres in his sets while also organising his own events. Over the past few years, he discovered his love for disco and house. Armed with a big smile and contagious energy, he released his first single, "Your Mind Says?" on his own label in 2023, marking the beginning of many more releases to come.

His sound, best described as “roller skating through the jungle,” blends afro and tropical percussion with funky beats and vocals. It’s no surprise that, during one of his sets, you might suddenly find yourself singing along and thinking, "I didn’t even know I knew this song!"
