This week’s guest is Groovemasta, aka Velyo Alexieff, a DJ, Producer and Remix artist from Bulgaria. He’s released a number of fantastic disco tracks on major labels such as Tropical Disco Records, Sundries Digital, And Friends Records, Hive Label and Mango Sounds. 

He’s currently the resident DJ at One More Bar and Soda Bar in his home town of Sofia, with previous DJ residencies at Lifehouse Club, Ginger Bar and Jackin Bar.

He has been a radio co-host of Jazz In The House Radio Show on Jazz FM Radio and former radio host of Deep Connection Radio Show on Nova FM Radio, Bulgaria, as well as being a  former co-owner, promoter and booking manager of Adultempo Dance Music Company.

Velyo always plays and produces a fresh, funky and upbeat vibe, and it’s a pleasure to welcome him to the show

My special guest this week is Miss Disco, a soulful DJ who creates edits of her favourite tracks to produce a unique sound when playing at events.

Relatively new to the live scene in Manchester she decided to make her own edits to stand out in what can be a crowded market. Now residing in London she is mainly focusing on edits and mixes until we return to some form of normality post pandemic.

She is supported by Producer Beatphreak who helps with sound production on her edits, as well as producing some of his own remixes of the tracks.

BLD Special: Slightly Transformed - Winter Numbers 2022 (Mixed by Chuggin Edits)

Episode 75, the three quarter century, was a bit of a special one - it was broadcast on Valentine’s Day, which is also my birthday! Couldn’t resist slipping in a couple of loved up smoochers, but this episode was all about the promos really, with two new cuts from myself and some brand new heat from disco friends Pete Whitely, Pete Ellison, Jack Tennis, Shalvoy, Da Lukas, Robert Ouimet & Dave Godin and Mascott

As it was my birthday, I’d lined up an extra special guest for hour 2 - Michael Gray!!! Michael is a hugely respected and established British DJ and music producer, best known for his hits ‘The Weekend’ & ‘Borderline’ He is also one half of the dance music production and remixing duo 'Full Intention' who have been at the forefront of Dance music since the early 90s.

London-based Michael is one of the most in-demand Artists on the global dance music scene today. Having relaunched his solo career as Michael Gray in 2018 to pursue his original love of Disco, Michael has consistently placed in the top three house artists on Traxsource - an incredible achievement and a worthy accolade for Michael's world-class production skills. Throw into the mix awesome DJ sets at the best events in the UK, and a host of chart topping tracks with Jon Pearn as Full Intention, and you start to see the full picture of one of the UK's most talented Artists. He has DJ’d all over the world from MOS in London to Hi (for Glitterbox) & Pacha in Ibiza and as far and wide as Poland, Germany, The Philippines, Australia, Russia, Brazil, Georgia, Spain and The Netherlands.

Funkier Radio Episode 75 - Michael Gray Guest Mix

This week’s special guest is one of the most prolific producers in the disco world, a man with boundless energy and creativity when it comes to releasing a constant stream of top quality edits. It gives me great pleasure to welcome Pete Le Freq!

** PETE LE FREQ BIO **
Pete started producing over 12 years ago, and made a bit of noise with his house label Llama Farm Recordings. He's been remixed by Jay-J, Eric Kupper and Kenny Summit, appeared on compilations with Joey Negro and LCD Soundsystem, and played alongside the likes of Crazy P, Inland Knights, CagedBaby and a few others.

Since discovering the things he was sampling were better than the things he was making, Pete found that retouching and reworking the originals gave him his producing mojo back, and soon after Alpaca Edits was born.

The York based edits label has since become home to disco superstars such as Dr Packer, Chuggin Edits, and Mannix. He’s been resident DJ at Sotano in York for the last 7 years, and this has fuelled his productions to greater heights. He’s known for playing 5 hour sets that incorporate both his new productions and others versions of serious disco action.

2019 has seen Pete get a vinyl release alongside the likes of Fingerman, Al Kent and Sleazy McQueen on Samosa Recordings, produce remixes for the likes of Hot Digits and Midnight Riot, as well as having 4 eps of his reworks on his own Alpaca Edits. He’s also debuted at Tramlines Festival in Sheffield, and made a return to rock the Toil Trees stage at Beatherder for the second year running.
November saw him support Michael Gray and Fingerman at Distrikt in Leeds and Derek Kaye in York. The year ended with him beating the likes of Mousse T and Ray Mang in the Traxsource Nu-Disco Top 100 Artists of the year.

Lockdown saw Pete go into rework overdrive, running a weekly Thursday night stream, as well as starting a regular show on Street Sounds Radio. He also worked with Ashley Slater of Freak Power on some original tracks.

2021 has seen the return of Pete’s That Needs An Edit nights in York, and will culminate in December with a guest slot from Shaka Loves You. Roll on 2022!
