A spark of ingenuity sees Petar Dundov light up Proton Music once again aided by iridescent remixes from BLANCAh and Imran Khan.

Regularly seeing his music featured on the likes of Meanwhile, 3rd Avenue and Clinique with a variety of original and remix production material, Imran Khan has shone brightly through 2018’s “Arrival” EP on Particles, while August 2019’s “Organik” and November’s “Sunsweat” EPs continued his story on Proton Music. 

Remixes for GMJ, Dmitry Molosh and Michael A for the latter, have continued to showcase a burgeoning talent as the UK star now adds his touch to Dundov's new Spark release. Characterized by a hefty rhythmic groove and seismic bassline, growling synth lines swim across the stereo spectrum as delayed percussive hits and ticking hats supply hypnotic energy. Evolving with elegance, pads and effects are introduced as pitched variations on the original’s central motifs bend and echo into the distance in intriguing fashion. The result is an innovative and dramatic interpretation with its roots firmly in Petar Dundov’s 'Spark'.

This episode felt good! Me and the new Pioneer set up are seeing eye to eye now, and we spent the first hour mixing up some sweet music together. Kicking off with my brand new track that’s just come out on Discoholics Anonymous Recordings, then keeping things around the 100bpm mark for the first bit of the show, ramping things up, slowing things back down, usual business. Alongside some disco, some funk, some house and some strangeness I also played something else brand new from me, that’ll be out on Hot Gorilla Records early next year. 

I’m so excited about the guest for this episode - it’s my honour and pleasure to welcome Mark Christopher, AKA Goz. Mark’s show Spin City was a major gateway for me into the beautiful music scene that I now find myself in, and a major factor in me deciding to start this show. Spin City’s chatroom was one of the places that the Disco Walton’s first started bonding over a shared love of the amazing tunes laid down by Goz and his perfectly chosen guests. Spin City remains a hugely important show to me, and Mark has built something truly special. Although I’ve yet to meet him in person (almost did this weekend, but life got in the way), I regard him as a friend, and he exudes warmth, supportiveness and positivity. So happy to welcome him on!

Swedish disco-pop duo Drop Out Orchestra serve up a sure fire single on The Disco Express. Invoking the spirit of 70's New York with their two uptempo disco bangers 'I Got You' and 'Get Naked' the EP also features club-ready remixes from resident Soundsmith and label boss Bustin' Loose.

Daniel Lindeberg and Ingemar Perä of Drop Out Orchestra aim to bring live elements back into the dance music. Blurring the divide between live and DJ performances by incorporating live bass and electronics, Drop Out Orchestra are bonafide party starters.

They've previously collaborated with the likes of Black Strobe, Flight Facilities, Paul Weller, LCD Soundsystem's Nancy Whang and have supported anyone from Gilles Peterson to Fatboy Slim.

Started this episode on the slower side, took in some beats around 105bpm, slowed things down even more to about 90 then picked thinks back up to familiar 120bpm+ territory to cram in a few promos. This one was a lot of fun after a busy week and weekend that left little time for DJing, and I only pressed the wrong button a few times. 

Hour two’s guest mix is bloody brilliant to be honest. It’s from Craig Scott, a DJ of 30+ years from Plymouth who caught my ear a while back thanks to his excellent mix series Ebony Sessions. Those mixes, whilst eclectic, are heavily focussed around house and disco their many forms, so imagine my surprise when Craig turned in an hour of wall to wall funky hip hop! I’m so glad he did though - whilst hip hop and me can sometimes be a bit hit and miss, he’s exactly captured the vibe I go for - lively, good time retro beats with lots of big brassy funk samples, none of that gangsta sh*t. He’s done himself proud with this mix and I absolutely love it!

I was in the middle of our US tour in Los Angeles last year and got asked to remix one of the biggest acts in the world - Coldplay - so I locked down for a couple of days (into my manager's house) and here is the result. The original is such a summer jam I wanted to take it into a different territory. Support so far has been incredible, hope you like it!

Review:
Editor’s Kutz is here, right on summertime wearing it’s Volume 8 swimsuit, while the label boss seems to be on vacation too, since this is the first record of the series with no “VinylAddicted” track included.
A’ side begins with “The Silver Rider” and his blue-sky edit on an Odyssey’s hit, giving to it a more uptempo and danceable character, while the Italian duo “Marsupials” drops a heavenly disco-house track with a chunky beat and a beautifully loading string line, called “Just Like Heaven”. Both sun-drenched, with vibes melting down slowly onto the sand like the butter under the hot sun!
Flip-side could be the sunset side with Stereo 12’’s “Da Flow” closing your afternoon session or, why not, kicking things off for a late night party! With a deep and soulful take on an Ashford & Simpson’s classic track, this one can stick in your mind for long, while Napoleon’s “Luv Passage” has a hypnotic process with repetitive loops and fat kicks that put you in a sweet nu-disco trance. But, beware, there’s a break waiting for you! Pressed on a clear blue, 180 gram wax. Limited down to 500 copies, no repress!!!

The third multi-artist EP from Hot Digits' occasional vinyl series, Wax Digits, is packed to the rafters with dancefloor-focused re-edits and reworks. Labor Of Love leads the way with "Move That Thang", a fine chunk of warm and bass heavy deep house/disco fusion, before Osmose steals the show with the loopy mid-tempo disco-funk bump of "Let Harry Rock". Over on Side B, The Silver Rider impresses via the swirling disco-house hypnotism of 'Groove On Down", before experienced re-editor P-Sol pairs locked-in grooves with sun-kissed disco instrumentation and heady vocal snippets on "Sturdy Disco".
