A selection of Acid and House tunes from 1988 to 1990 mixed by me. Back to when the raves began and the music started getting exciting. I did this mix and first uploaded it online in 2011, but as of from December 2013 iv re-mixed it and its now improved. Iv got this mix on a couple of sites and the original version i did of this has been quite popular on YouTube. Even tho the original version has been one of my most popular mixes, (apart from my breakdance mix) there was a couple of areas of sloppy mixing, but most significantly after listening to it on a particular occasion i realised just how bad the audio quality was and i wasnt totally happy with it so i thought id try and rectify that, so iv totally re-mixed it (almost identically with only a few minimal changes) and its also now extended with two extra tunes on the end.     This mix is now a better experience ! 

As i say the original copy was bad quality and even when i then put this re-mixed version on YouTube it still had a slight few distorted areas on a couple of tunes, but this is the nice clean copy of it with no issues.
(Altho in hindsight i have put to much sparkle on it in my music producing software, but iv learnt from that since to be abit more minimal with it)

The final look at Ram Records 2006 - 2010! I thought I would struggle to find enough tracks for this mix but I actually forgot how many amazing tunes came out during these years. Mixed in one take with some absolute personal faves from this awesome era. Shortly after Ram Records would take a nosedive in quality so this is definitely the last mix!

Something a bit different from me! A label that I've been meaning to do a deep dive on for some time, finally got the chance to sort my records and CDs and start a 2 part look at the awesome, forward thinking and downright jazzy New Identity Records! A Formation label started in 1996 by DJ SS, the label is still going today with a look at the deeper, jazzier, off the wall style of D&B.

Thumpa - The Sound Of New Identity Part 1 (Formation sub label)

A deep dive into the early releases on the Back 2 Basics sub label that ran from 1994 to 2000, releasing music from Ascend, Ultravibe, Technical Itch, JB and more. At first glance the label could be considered 90s record box filler but I love how the label could hop from atmospheric jungle to vocals to big wobbly basslines and amens to hip hop jump up and darkness. Enjoy!

Thumpa - The Second Movement Sessions

Here's part 1 of my deep dive into one of my favourite D&B labels of all time, Back 2 Basics! Set up by JB aka Jason Ball in 1993, the label would run to 2008 with nearly 100 vinyl releases and more albums, mix CDs etc. Being a midlands lad myself I have grown up with this label and bought everything I could 96 onwards. 

The label released music from JB, Spice, Dred Bass, Twisted Individual, Decoder, Ascend, Ned Ryder and loads more and was a really important part of my teenage years as a DJ and raver! Enjoy this look into their 94/95 releases...

Thumpa - Let's Go Back 2 Basics Part 1 (1994 - 1995 Jungle)

Encouraged by the high demand for ‘Foundations Vol.1’, which saw DJ Spinna and Kai Alce join forces to release the Cajmere classic ‘Brighter Days’ on 7” vinyl, the second volume of ‘Foundations’ sees the pair digging even deeper into House music history, selecting a pair of tracks from Chicago legend Tyree Cooper.

The first cut on our strictly limited 7” pressing was originally named ‘Video Crash’, then re-titled ‘Acid Crash’ on a bootleg version released around the same time. Whichever name you prefer, this 1988 track hails from an era of creative one-upmanship in the Chicago underground. The story goes that Marshall Jefferson and/or Lil’ Louis created a jam called ‘Video Clash’ in the mid 80s (there’s still some controversy about who made it, so we’ll say no more). Keen to go one better, Tyree hit the studio to make a track called ‘Video Crash’ and in the process he created one of the most potent and recognizable Acid House tracks of all time.
On the flip side and originally released back in ’89 is Joe Smooth’s ‘Too Deep’ mix of another Tyree classic: ‘Hardcore Hip House’. A crossover anthem, Tyree’s original version paired rap vocals and James Brown cutups with raw House beats. Fellow Chicago DJ Joe Smooth shows off the flawless, crisp production abilities that would later see him producing for Destiny’s Child, New Order and Whitney Houston with this superb, timeless Deep House remix.
