Growing up in Sweden a young Pino was exposed to a broad range of music from her family. Older siblings immersed in the world of rock, grunge and soul fuelled a melting pot of sound and sparked an obsession. Discovering Prodigy, Chemical Brothers and Fat Boy Slim as a teen and then later the depths of house and techno while working in night clubs in Stockholm, Pino was caught and adamant she needed to know more.

Moving to New Zealand in 2008 and falling in with friends who DJ, Pino found herself avidly watching how they play. Determined to learn, she was given opportunities to play at house parties and after hours events. Honing these skills on a controller at home and with the help of her musically minded friends, she began taking on gigs, and soon she was being asked to play more and more.

Living between the worlds of the Golden Bay festival realm during summer and the ski fields of Wanaka and Queenstown in the winter, Pino’s love for beautiful, wild vistas and adventure saw her snowboarding in the winter, and hiking and dancing during summer. Inspiration from these incredible places trickled through into the creative domain, inspiring mixes and sets played across 3 decks. 

Her passion and drive for all things house and techno ensures each and every set or mix is taken very seriously. She spends hours putting together rolling techno baselines with indie riffs, house high hats or a deep, soulful a’capella; all working for the time and placement of her set, all with gratitude for it all. 

With inspiration taken from some of the biggest names in the world through to some of the coolest NZ locals, a Pino set is diverse, fun, mixed impeccably and filled with cleverly layered sound. Always striving to be better and learn more, she is constantly honing her sound and ability, and we are very honoured to have her put together an Explorations mix for LO-FI.

This was year number 12 for Opulent Temple.  Through the years of helping organize OT, it's still a major motivator to have that defining playa music moment.  This year it was Wednesday night at our annual Sacred Dance party.  Of course I wanted to play to the moment, of music that I was passionate about while being conscious to set up Rob Garza from Thievery properly, who was on after me.  That endeavor ended up with this set, which I think is a stand out of my BM sets for it's range of music and emotion.  Never wanting to be pigeonholed and mostly having a disregard for if a tune was old or new, I ended up with a couple classic Alex Metric tunes, some Elite Force revamps that had 'playa tune' written all over them, some unreleased tracks from Lot 49 and Lee Coombs, some bassline techno and moving into the nudisco ala' Croatia Squad, etc I've been playing the shit out of lately cause it's music I love right now seemed a good note to leave it off for Rob Garza.

Hope you enjoy and it takes you back to some playa magic with a packed and beautiful crowd, jellyfish floating through the masses, an aerialist performing high on a forklift, dancers on the stage, and all the unique sights and feelings of OT in top form in the desert.

Sunday Session 1

A set on the techno/trance end of the spectrum for the burn night "in my mind". Since Bman 2020 didn't happen, I reminisced about the music that shaped my early experiences of radical self-expression in the desert and San Francisco. 

Considering the current health, civil, political, and environmental challenges we are facing I constructed a set around Maceo Plex- Let's All Pray for this World" track. 

These tracks take me back to my early days on the playa with the likes of Illuminaughty, Sol System, Braindrops, Syd Gris & Opulent Temple.
