A long, cold and snowy winter is finally coming to an end. Just after dawn during a nocturnal unattended sound recording in an old forest. Black grouse is on the leks, and the voices of overflying Whooper swans can be heard. Chaffinches are migrating, and the local Willow tits have begun singing. Black and Great Spotted woodpeckers are drumming, but Ravens steal she show acoustically. Feels good to be alive.

En 2019, des chercheurs californiens ont mis en évidence que le cerveau humain peut percevoir inconsciemment le champ magnétique terrestre. Ce sixième sens appelé « magnétoréception », si étrange chez l’homme, est utilisé habituellement par certaines espèces animales, notamment les oiseaux migrateurs, afin de leur permettre de s’orienter.
Ma partition, dans laquelle la harpe occupe une place importante, s’inspire librement des particularités de ce phénomène de magnétoréception.
La pièce s’ouvre avec le percussionniste qui produit un bourdonnement par deux aimants qui s’entrechoquent. De ce geste initial découlent divers sons granulaires repris aux cordes, à l'exception de la harpe. Bien que la harpe soit intégrée dans l’effectif dès le début de la pièce, elle ne fait qu’imiter les gestes et les sonorités changeants des autres instruments, en renonçant presque à ses modes de jeu idiomatiques. Au fur et à mesure que la pièce avance, la harpe émerge en tant que soliste. Elle passe de ces procédés d’imitation à ses propres modes de jeu plus idiomatiques.
Ce travail sur ce principe d’imitation de la harpe qui mène à sa perte d’identité, puis à la revalorisation de son écriture idiomatique (l’arpège, le glissando) a été mon guide pour la composition de la pièce.
Ainsi, la harpe en étouffant les cordes ou en utilisant certains accessoires comme le tournevis, le plectre, la raclette de fenêtre, la superball ou encore l’archet, se met « en quête de son identité ». La force d’attraction que représente l’environnement instrumental dans lequel elle est plongée, est comparable à ce champs magnétique discret qui guident sa progression.

Very long covid: the lasting risks to Africa
