Do you remember disaster, the panic on the morning after?
The fervor and the fire, compared to the stillness of the water

I kinda like singin in the darkness, you can’t see all the faces I make
When I contort my throat to hit those notes that are just a little out of my range

And it’s perfect as it is so it won’t need revision
And it is easy to see the flaw in your foundation, but ain’t the hardest step always admission

She wrote my name on her leg

I’ve got this sinking feeling that makes me feel like I’m floatin

When The Autumn Came

I woke up in a panic and I went home in a rush
I tried to take a nap in the afternoon, but it didn’t do much
I jumped in the pool and I wrote all my feelings down on a paper, then crumbled it up
I wept for nomadic hearts as they made their home in the city
Then I moved away, not because I don’t like you, I just didn’t want you running into me

Forever, what a stupid thing to say
All the best laid plans will fail anyway if they don’t conclude
Now what do I do? All of my irrational fears came true, hey it could happen to you
But at least something transpired, at least all the waiting has come to an end
So where do I begin? I got all of this optimism, I almost don’t wanna weigh my options…

But I’ll ride from your house back to mine ’til it’s cold outside in the summer
Never mind, I guess we’re stayin in tonight as the cool breeze gives me the shivers
I’ll see you Monday, first thing in the morning
Familiar faces will blur into focus as I wipe the sleep from my eyes

I just want you to be happy have you heard that one before?
And when the friendship doesn’t last too long afterwards, what do you regret more?
I guess I wish I told you but then there’s a lot of things that aren’t really worth worrying about anymore
Still, I learned so much from you for better or for worse
And it’s just like you said, I’m all for learning from my mistakes, I only have to make them first

And it’s so hot that if I get out of this pool, then surely I’ll turn into ashes
I forgot if that was how it really felt or if I was just being dramatic

Bring Flowers

Ain’t it kind of funny how first names coincide with star dates?
I never really understood cosmic symmetry but I know it makes a lot of people feel better
And here I am singing my quote unquote hard knocks
Into a six string box with knobs on the top like
God, I just wanna go to bed so bad that I’m counting down the hours…
Whenever you get back in town and I’m not so under the weather
We oughta set some time aside to spend some time together
Because last night I had a fever dream and what I think my brain was telling me was that
Everything would get boring and that’s why nothing lasts forever

So we’ll go through the cycles again
And on my way back two jets flew over my head

And in spite of what it meant, I’ll follow you wherever you go, I just hope it never gets this cold again
And that I never hear you say what you said to me tonight
With every minute that passes I’m getting a little bit more indifferent but for what we went through,
Man, am I gonna miss you…

I just think it’s interesting how honestly, I’m right where I would wanna be
But that doesn’t really stop anxiety
So please, you just gotta believe me you know that I would never wanna be this angry
But perspective is liquid trust me, I’m aware, I’m the last man standing during musical chairs
And we could talk about looking the other way but I really don’t wanna go there
Cause the years keep comin and there just don’t stoppin em 
It’s been this long and I ain’t gone platinum
If that’s not enough existential dread to make you wanna sit around and do nothin
Then I would stay home all day and just create but I’ve had the plague for a couple of days
And my leg is in intolerable pain for an unrelated reason

So if you’re drowning under the weight of excuses
Don’t you know that burden belongs to the both of us

I just hope it never gets this hot again before somebody looks at me the way she looked at him tonight

I certainly don’t have the authority to put you under scrutiny
For passing up on a litany of windows of opportunity
That all seem to pass by as fast as a triangle of grass
Between the freeway, the offramp, and the overpass

Would you tell the truth for me if it ever came to that?
There’s been at least eight instances of sixty minute increments 
And I’m about to bite my leg off because I never give myself the day off
And if I did, nobody could get ahold of me cause I’m always to busy sleeping
