If a track you submitted does not appear in this list, it’s probably because another of your tracks appeared in our Fresh Faves or on the BBC Music Introducing Mixtape during the last three months — we ask that artists featured on either wait three months before resubmitting to give others a chance. 

We also don’t accept short previews or SoundCloud Go tracks that can only be heard as 30 second previews, and tracks made private after submission, which cannot be included in playlists. You will be able to resubmit the track in future. Tracks (and remixes of tracks) that have been previously submitted, and tracks from banned artists will also be removed.

Christmas songs and the like are also not eligible for the Listening Post, although we will collect these into a playlist that will be published on 24 December.

Throughout the span of the pandemic we saw a massive psychological shift in not only our relationship with not only our home space; but also with the way we began to interact with the world: in a manner that we had never before fathomed. 

With the political climate of the world reaching new lows throughout the span 2020, as the world watched the tragedy of the Sarah Eveard case, the murder of George Floyd – not to mention the mental health pandemic we were collectively experiencing, as a result of Covid-19: forcing so many independent business’ to shut down due to lack of funds and government support, university students continuing to be charged over a 9k for the education they barley had access to; and countless losses experienced  by so many friends, families, lovers. Upon so many other things. 

As a reaction to this I wrote “What You Call Home”. The song speaks about the hardships of living in the current political climate as a young person by trying to get by in a world that fails to welcomes each and every one of us with open arms.

"Afterlife" defines The Folding Desert's new sound for 2023. The perfect marriage between acoustic folk fusion with ethereal synth soundscapes, encompassing heavier sonic and emotional themes.

“143” is a sonic rollercoaster, where the collision of heavy instrumentation and seething vocals crafts an auditory experience that mirrors the tumultuous emotions it encapsulates. The song embodies raw intensity, serving as a musical catharsis that allows listeners to delve into their own feelings of anger and longing. It’s a visceral journey through the darker recesses of the human psyche, with pounding drums and thunderous basslines acting as the songs unyielding heartbeat, compelling the listener deeper into its abyss.

Taking inspiration from Wolf Alice’s “Smile”, “143” similarly delves into the intricacies of love and desire, but with a darker more sonic landscape. The track beckons listeners to immerse 
themselves in a turbulent odyssey, where heavy guitars and haunting synths intertwine to create an atmosphere of brooding tension and release. It unquestionably establishes itself as 
a formidable presence in the world of rock music, a sonic force to be reckoned with.

India Arkin's first single following her release last year as HMV's first ever signed artist, this track is the defining track of her new musical era.
