Fresh off the release of their acclaimed record Constellate on Tokyo Dawn Records, Chicago’s production powerhouse, Tensei joins forces with the soulful dynamo that is Georgia Anne Muldrow (Brainfeeder, Stones Throw, SomeOthaShip) to self-release the feel-good jam “Walk It Out.” 

The record features contributions from emerging spiritual jazz stalwarts Greg Spero (Halsey, Makaya McCraven), Brandon Meeks, and Kafele. Timed appropriately for the late spring, early summer flowering period in nature, Walk It Out is a danceable invitation to release your pent up energy, rather than letting it fester.

The single will be a Bandcamp feature from May 15, 2019 to May 20, 2019 (with corresponding editorial). On May 20, 2019, the song will be released ton all other platforms. Along with the main vocal version, Tensei is also releasing instrumental variation along with two exclusive remixes, one by Tokyo Dawn labelmate  Inkswel featuring John Robinson (Scienz of Life), and a second remix from the extraordinary Kenny Keys.

Jane Weaver’s new ambient ensemble Fenella take on Marcell Jankovic’s 1981 animated fantasy epic ‘Fehérlófia’ out 1st November

‘Fenella’ is the latest project from Jane Weaver - musical polymath and one of the most respected electronic composers of recent times. Having already released three critically-acclaimed LP’s within the last five years Weaver’s creativity continues to expand ever further into the (modern) kosmos with this reimagined soundtrack to Marcell Jankovics’ cult animation Fehérlófia.
 
Released in 1981, Fehérlófia is a remarkable animation based in ancient folklore with a narrative culled from mythical tales of the Scythans, Huns and Avars. Weaver’s richly emotional and psychedelic music offers a perfect contemporary dialogue with Jankovics’ astonishing visual aesthetic. A mixture of ambient textures, menacing drones and spine-tingling vocals combine to create a lavish soundscape saturated with hypnotic moods and cinematic atmosphere.
 
Weaver’s long-term bandmates Peter Philipson and Raz Ullah decamped to a remote cottage on the Applecross Peninsula in north west Scotland to commence recording on the initial album sessions, making masterful use of synthesizers and heavily processed guitars to create evocative new sound-worlds for Jancovics’ imagery. Further overdubs and vocal manipulations were committed to tape at Eve Studios near Manchester, a haven for vintage analogue recording equipment and the same environment from which ‘The Silver Globe’, ‘Modern Kosmology’ and ‘Loops In The Secret Society’ albums sprung forth.

A continuation of the Fire Records re-imagined score series, Fenella’s self-titled release is out 1st November on limited edition ink spot vinyl and crystal clear LP.

Current Affairs are a post punk band from Glasgow, neatly navigating the line between new wave and goth. Formed in 2016 and Comprising Joan (ex-The Royal We/Seconds/Rose McDowall's band), Seb (ex-Anxiety/Pissy), Josh (The Downs/Kaspar Hauser/ex-Rose McDowall's band) and Andrew (Shopping/As Ondas).
  
A cassette called Object was released along the way on Comodillo Tapes and in December 2018 the band’s first 7” Breeding Feeling -bw- Draw The Line was put out into the world by Not Unloved, followed in June 2019 by Buckle Up -bw- World’s In Crisis, out via Berlin’s Dot Dot Dot (...).

Object & Subject is the accumulation of the band’s output over 3 years (excluding the Dot Dot Dot release), now gathered and synthesised into one convenient disc. “We never agonised over our sound or direction, but worked to our punk strengths and leaned into our pop tendencies collectively. On the cusp of releasing an album and re-imagining our live set up, it feels great to be putting out this overview of what we’ve made so far. “

Sometimes we can only come to know ourselves best when we let others in. Such can certainly be said of NYC multi-instrumentalist and artist Andrya Ambro, and her band Gold Dime, on the eve of their second full-length My House. See, she’s played these instruments and crafted these songs her entire life, having honed her decisive sit/stand style of transfixing drumming and provocative singing to a degree of perfectionism. Coming from her previous, highly acclaimed noisy rock duo Talk Normal, Gold Dime’s first release, 2017’s Nerves, was the first time Ambro has had no one to answer to but herself. My House sees a new, more collective effort being made, with Ian Douglas-Moore on bass and John Bohannon (Ancient Ocean || J.R. Bohannon) on guitar. And it very much shows. Walking a tightrope between unapologetic art rock and disarming intimacy, she integrates triumphant doubled guitars whose distorted fuzz winks at the mayhem of Les Rallizes Denudes, deep floor toms that quick pivot to galvanizing beats on a bed of dead spinning cymbals, to sometimes spoken, sometimes sung Laurie Anderson-esque words that uplift into a many voiced choir. And the warm bass lines, well they would make Holger Czukay from CAN very proud. 

My House, according to Ambro, is intended to be something of a gruff father’s declaration at dinner, fist slamming on the table, but rather than the stubborn, undying manners that would come with “living under my roof,” she only demands that everything be done with the same degree of tireless dedication and authenticity. “I want every beat to be played with intention. ‘Cause why play if you don’t mean it?” Every moment of this album acts as just that—a demand to own something, whether it be self or art or place in this world. We have no choice but to listen, to respect it. This is her house... well Gold Dime’s house.

Restless - On The Boulevard

'Into The Country' was recorded throughout the year of 2016 in-between touring/working and Cory & Chris moving to Mexico and Australia respectively. Basic tracks were recorded by longtime collaborator Ian Rundell in his studio and then messed with in our practice space at the Monofonus compound in Austin, TX. Chris did most of the heavy lifting. Cory did some of the drum machines, and George was fiddling with some electronic gadgets, with lyrics once again mined from the info wars comment section and various other stressful situations like airports and hospitals. This is the first proper Spray Paint LP since 2016's 'Feel The Clamps' (Goner). Since then collaborations with Protomartyr, Ben Wallers, Ben Mackie, and Dan Melchior have been released.

 

Though Spray Paint have no touring plans in the immediate future, the trio will reconvene in Austin this November to for multiple nights at Hotel Vegas as part of the Monofonus Press weekend taking place at said venue and the M.P. compound, November 22-24 (other participants include The Rebel, Beech Creeps, Tashi Dorji, Sun Araw, Obnox, Claire Rousay, Ralph White, Brandy, Matchess and many others).
