r u m i n a t i o n s

the kitten moon
                           q   u   i   v   e   r   s
                    within my arms

                           like a phantom
               in a cabaret
                                 yearning for warmth

                     wearing guilt on the runway
                                           and whispering prayers
               as an afterthought
                                 before fading away

                          just like the mechanical oscillating
           of rosary beads
                                    wrapped around my hands,
                           resembling chains

                      tempting me
                              like a paramour
                                         with a secret

                      and even the renegade sun's kisses
                                       seem like a gunslinger's bullets,
                     a refrain of a song
                                                     difficult to forget

                                 you are a sunsetflower
                                      stuck in the backseat,
                       the one i ache to grasp
                                          as i trace the sky with my fingertips

                         and like the absolution
                                                you slipped into my coffee,
                   you haunt me like a piano key

                                             i ruminate over

absolution

every experience always initiates from
a flirting of daylight between satin curtains
and the sensation of its caresses
tiptoeing amidst the dissertation
of her mouth.

 

her tongue tasted like ash
and the blood from her lips
where his cigarettes and snake bites

decreed her drunk from

the kiss of his anathema
condemned her to a life

in the darkness.

 

the only light inside her room
illuminated the unseen things
that she hid beyond the mirror.

 

they say it’s just the heart that knows
but the mind unravels only what’s in between,
refracted in the eclipse of remembering.

 

a coliseum of stars hung in the balance
of the firmament within her vantage point
from the windowsill but, one by one,
they fell as the night howled with the wolves
for salvation in the shadow of a silent movie.

 

she eventually collapsed in slow motion rain
and the dialect of symphonies
escaped with her fading breath--
a misdiagnosis of a life once lived.

 

the emergence of sun and moon
in the tethering of clouds
could only define the divisions of love.

 

we lay here, floating in the air,
capable of only a fragment
                             of memory.

i do not know where
i end and you begin,
if there is breath
left in me
to breathe you in
so breathe on me so
i may see your face
because i do not know
why one single bite
from an apple
could bring me(&you)
so much disgrace, to make me
feel so wretched that there is
something missing inside
               my ribcage

 

i may not know how you
turn wine to water,
how you hear
everyone’s prayers
despite the fact
that the cup we offer you
               is bitter

 

i may not comprehend the depths
of your name, the principalities of
good and the dominions of evil
sometimes sound the same

 

how everything seems a blur,
like a smudge on a rembrandt painting
and how the frankincense and myrrh
perfume the atmosphere
that one might perceive it
as an authentic caravaggio
amidst the light coming from
the window,
reflecting your shadow

 

because writing poetry
that sometimes rhyme
is all i know

 

because it’s your memory
that i don’t want to let go

 

it begins with a promise,
ends with a kiss

 

though i do not know where
i end and you begin
