Happy to welcome Josephine' Soundscapes aka @machines-desirantes to our mix series! Jose Salas is an audiovisual creator and active cultural promoter in Madrid. As a DJ, or selector, he always works with a mixture of research from the past with a strong commitment to the present. He is currently part of the collectives a_mal_gam_a and CALMA, both working in the Spanish underground electronic scene. He also hosts a radio show called "Campos de Marte" on @radio-relativa, focused on experimentation in music.

This mix is a beautiful mixture of downtempo beats, acid synths and trippy melodies that builds up beautifully over 1h40. It's as he calls it, a "Machine Desirante" coming to life :)

Before summer ended this year, Colorado-based DJ Steven Dermody was visiting family in Ohio. He woke one night to the light of the blue moon shining through trees, projecting pools of light on the grass below. Taking it in for a long moment, he took a photo from where he stood in his childhood bedroom. After opening up the first hour of this month’s show with some new favorites, I’m honored to host Steven on Bright Patterns for the second hour, where he reimagines and translates this moment with such personal intention.

2nd Hour: Sbat

Recorded in my Tokyo apartment on a couple of 1200s, a lone XDJ and my cherished FF4000 mixer, the mix was slowly put together over the course of a couple of months as I went through almost all of my collection trying to find the right records (old and new). I've always been a big fan of DJs that can keep chugging from one 100bpm obscure number to the next, all the while making all everything sound like it belongs together (e.g. Andrew Weatherall in full backroom swing) and I really wanted to try and create my own version of that where you're taken through different styles, almost without realising (I hope), but whilst keeping the focus on a late night/early morning stomp in the backroom of some weird Tokyo after hours club you probably should have left ages ago...but you didn't...and you still have a few more hours in you.
