The tunnel is a magical stage and im very grateful to have been asked to play the Saturday late afternoon set, before one of my biggest electronic-music inspirations, voices from the lake. I took the opportunity, considering the impeccable programming, open minded crowd, and perfect soundsystem to play a more slow building, delicate festival set - which felt very true to my real taste, and an homage to many of my deepest and longest standing inspirations. For CoziMix 21 we welcome Brooklyn based DJ, Maharam. Maharam is an American DJ and co-organizer of Final Passage, a Brooklyn-based event series emphasizing leftfield curation across both club and deep listening environments. Maharam's affinity for deeper sound is rooted in the melancholic landscapes of his Pacific Northwest upbringing, as well as his background as a guitarist and jazz vocalist. After moving to New York seven years ago, Brooklyn's rich DIY scene has been central to his life, acting as a constant source of inspiration and connection. During this mix he takes us on an atmospheric journey which he recorded spontaneously at 6am on a snowy Sunday dawn at his friend's apartment in the lower east side. 'I wanted to play in my collection of emotive moody trip hop, ambient, and dubby sounds for the cold season.'

CoziMix Questions : 

1. How and why did you get into dj’ing?
Living in Brooklyn, I feel very spoiled by the talent that comes through the city, and I've been very fortunate to have friends with great taste that have led me to some beautiful events. I had been going out for many years before I ever considered DJing, and picking it up after so long was very natural. I had set aside a lot of my musical life after moving to NY in 2018, but rediscovering it through DJing in the context of the scene has been very inspiring. 

2. Who, What/where was your most coziest gig you've been to or experienced and why?
I went to an event at one of my favorite DIY spaces in the fall of 2024 put on by Ballet (shoutout 320 and Blessing). It was a cozy deep listening vibe, where people were lying on mats on the floor. I was really blown away by Significant Other, who played a set spanning shoegaze, folk, and dub, but with a feeling of tender loneliness that left some of the audience in tears. Its not often I experience sets that hold you in the way that one did. 

3. Do you consider yourself an introvert or extrovert in the scene?
I'm probably more of an extrovert, I really enjoy being out and running into people that I've been connected with through music.

4. If you had to choose 1 track to vibe out too forever, what would it be?

5. What is your routine when preparing for a gig? Do you have any special remedies/ mental/physical prep/ places to go to? :)
I usually just spend time at home digging, mixing, and playing around in rekordbox, regardless of whether I have a gig or not. I have a pretty intense organizational system that I rely on quite a bit. I've also put a lot of work into my apartment lately, so I enjoy spending a lot of time at home :) 



CoziMix 21 : Maharam

Next up in our mix series is Human Space Machine. Hailing from Amsterdam, the dutchman has found his way into electronic music by channeling movement into rhythmical cadences, crafting a sound that exists at the intersection of techno, house, and experimental electronic music. His productions are often trippy yet inviting, and released on respected labels like Nous’klaer Audio and De Lichting, the latter which he co-founded. 

In this mix Mike takes us on a 1,5 hour voyage through moisty atmospheres. Slick underwater grooves meets slimey deep cave techno, in a masterclass of mysterious and murky world-building and slow tension manipulation. Momentum gradually rising, via twisted acid and waterlogged minimalism.
