From the banks of the Volga, "Arepo" rises from a fortified citadel as Anton MAKe forges another powerful construct from the Sator Square. A rhythmic cadence rolls effortlessly forward as a bassline sits below in symmetrical beauty. Melodic splendour ripples concurrently in hypnotic parallel and a heavy beat anchors the symphony of sound. A returning Dutch master orchestrates a new masterpiece redolent in aural textures and opulent sonic palette. Glistening patterns swirl and coalesce around Roger Martinez's vivid synth lines, pitching and bending against a harmonious chord sequence in delicate layers of tonality.

Along Lake Ontario's north western shoreline, a new edifice rises from Dowden's distinctive sonic architecture. Muted tones provide a mirror image of "Arepo"; a bouncing bassline creates easy familiarity while a new groove creates the framework for new artistry to flourish. A South American star creates an arpeggiated backdrop with palindromic majesty where John Cosani reinvents "Arepo". Water droplets of sound filter through the sonic spectrum alongside familiar bass patterns and a swathe of original textures blend in vivid sonic colours.

"After remixing GMJ & Matter’s “Lost on Origin” in late 2020, Imran Khan returned to Meanwhile with a full EP debut in February 2021. Returning to the stellar release, two new remixes come from Argentinean and Greek stars.
 
A legendary figure in the underground house fraternity, Juan Deminicis has consistently been at the cutting edge of the movement with a distinctive and innovative sound that has seen him grace such iconic imprints as Pablo Bolivar’s Seven Villas, Hernan Cattaneo’s Sudbeat Music and Guy J’s Lost & Found. Now making his Meanwhile debut, the Juan Deminicis remix of “Horizonz” is a compelling rework that dazzles with trademark rhythmic flair and sumptuous melodic arrangement. Layers of sound cascade over each other in intelligent fashion as the cadence of the original is enhanced with a dynamic vibrancy from sparkling hi-hats. Sumptuous pads and reverb-coated synth lines ripple across proceedings with ease as the subtle motifs of Khan’s work are complemented further by Deminicis’ stunning artistry.
 
Another iconic figure to feature heavily within the progressive house movement, Simos Tagias has been a watchword for high-quality production work that has been at the heart of a plethora of blue-chip labels after early work for Lynx Records in late 2012. Since then, some 400 production credits have featured heavily for the likes of Roger Martinez’s Higher States, Aly & Fila’s FSOE and the evergreen Proton Music. March 2021’s “Euphoria / Emotion” EP showcased the Greek producer’s talents on Meanwhile as he now returns with a blistering reworking of “Horizonz” that carries all the hallmarks of an artist at the height of his powers. Pitched arpeggios rise and fall with ease as subtle melodic layers criss-cross in imperceptible patterns, creating new harmonies and pulsating waves of sound. Reaching a rousing crescendo, a hypnotic new motif appears in the second half to mesmeric effect as Tagias extends Imran Khan’s work into a stunning new direction.

Following on from the February 2022 remixes, Meanwhile now returns to Alex O'Rion's EP as "Echium Remixed, Pt. 2" continues with another trio of outstanding interpretations.

A legendary figure in the world of art, music and underground dance, Roger Martinez has been a central figure with his kaleidoscopic sound and spiritual influences. Music signed to Lost and Found, Replug and his own Higher States have confirmed this status while July 2020's "Cosmic" was a further notable highlight on Meanwhile. Now returning to GMJ and Matter's imprint, the Roger Martinez remix of "The Chase" is an uptempo offering that draws on his musical influences with a powerful beat and deep bass groove. Using pitched elements from Alex's original, vocal cuts shift in stereo-panned glory and epic white-noise risers and infinite delays create a dense swirling atmosphere. Pausing at the breakdown to introduce additional melodic elements, the track then drops back into its hypnotic groove as new melodic motifs create the aptly titled "Interdimensional Remix".

GMJ and Matter return to their flagship imprint with typical flair and aplomb. Able to point to a rich catalogue of original and remix work in both solo and collaborative guises throughout Meanwhile's two-year reign at the top of the progressive house charts, the Melbourne based duo provide a powerful and dynamic rendition of the title track. GMJ and Matter have thus taken the effects fuelled "Echium" and transformed it into a dark seething progressive house monster that lurks beneath gently pulsing waves. Serene in its build, delayed synth phrases cascade over each other in endless delay while new melodies twinkle across the mid-range in trademark-soaked reverb and elegantly stratified sonic layers. Maintaining the aural themes sculpted by Alex O'Rion in the original, GMJ and Matter have successfully navigated a new and dynamic path through the beautiful "Echium".

Imran Khan has cemented a reputation as one of the progressive house fraternity's leading lights. Almost a double century of production credits has seen remix and original music land on the likes of Mango Alley, Proton Music and Clinique, since a 2016 debut for the latter. Moreover, 2021's "Push Thru / Horizonz" and "Equinox" have delighted the Meanwhile faithful. Returning for a third remix, the Imran Khan reworking of "The Serpent" is a typically deep and atmospheric affair with huge thumping beat and cavernous bass groove dominating the low end. Capturing the flowing melodic phrasing of the original, pitched synths and pulsating white-noise risers create a thick soup of sound that evolves in bubbling sonic patterns with their origins in Alex O'Rion's impressive production technique. The resulting marriage of two musical identities finds Imran Khan once again illustrating his impressive production credentials through trademark sound design.

Another musical triptych pays tribute to the sonic diversity found in Alex O'Rion's music as Roger Martinez, GMJ and Matter and Imran Khan open up in full bloom through the towering "Echium".

Finnish phenom Cid Inc is delicate with his take, homing in on the palatial lead with extraordinary diligence and finesse. Coupling fragments of the original with cavernous pads and a trotting bassline, this sublime offering is going to go off sunup or sundown.

A highlight from the iTunes #1 compilation ‘Anjunadeep 07’, Ryan Davis’ melancholic beauty ‘Brun’ gets reworked by two leading lights of the European underground, Luca Bacchetti and Matthias Meyer. Over the past decade Ryan Davis has carved out his own niche, with a unique brand of melodic techno, attracting wide-spread support from the likes of Hernan Cattaneo, Sasha, Jonas Rathsman, Stephan Bodzin and Max Cooper. 

Following releases on Crosstown Rebels, Saved and Ovum over the past few years, along with a string of stand-out remixes, Italian producer Luca Bacchetti offers up a signature rework, intertwining an subtle groove with delicate cinematic chords that compliment the spacey sentiments of the original.

Hamburg influencer and Watergate resident Matthias Meyer takes the stage for the second remix, debuted in James Grant’s recent Deep House Amsterdam mix. Meyer offers a textured roller, infusing classic house elements that resonate beautifully alongside the original’s cosmic soundscapes; an uplifting and emotive dancefloor moment.

GMJ & Matter - Earthless 2020

Italian born but firmly ensconced in adopted Argentinean homeland, Andrea Cassino is an iconic figure in the underground dance movement with a glowing career that has seen over a century of credits in solo and collaborative guise for Proton Music, Lowbit and Balkan Connection. Making his Meanwhile debut, Andrea Cassino takes “Microclimate” on a typically impressive journey of driving mesmeric bass groove and syncopated percussion with its roots in the Australian duo’s work. Making intelligent use of original components, melodies hypnotise and new production material from the Cassino arsenal drifts across proceedings and into an unencumbered breakdown. Dropping back into the extended groove in the second half after a ‘hands in the air’ white-noise riser, the Italian has created another club floor-filler.

The latest release from Clubsonica Records finds D.J. MacIntyre returning for a new single alongside Juan Ibanez who makes his label debut. American artist D.J. MacIntyre made his first appearance on the Colombian imprint in May of 2020 with the chart topping 'Conquistador'. As one of Beatport's perennial best-selling artists, the Santa Barbara resident continues to explore progressive music and its related derivatives through releases via Freegrant Music, Droid9 and his own SLC-6 imprint. Hailing from Argentina, Juan Ibanez has been touted as one of his country's rising talents since first appearing in 2019. Support from world class DJ Hernan Cattaneo, along with releases for Antrim's Or Two Strangers have etched Juan's place amongst progressive music's top up and comers. Now continuing their creative partnership, D.J. MacIntyre and Juan Ibanez land on Clubsonica with 'Haumea', alongside remixes from Fabri Lopez and Andre Moret.

Bound by a love for rhythm and groove, the cross-continental duo have crafted one of their most engaging creations to date in 'Haumea'. Pulsating beats, clattering drums and astral sonics begin the seven-minute journey. Senses heighten as striking chord stabs and cosmic arps unite across a swirling, tension filled backdrop. Anticipatory and dramatic, the main break continues to elevate mood with phasing noise, before a powerful drum roll sparks a thumping drop and electric finale.

Returning to the label and providing the first interpretation of 'Haumea' is Fabri Lopez. With two remixes over the last two years, the Argentinean artist has found a comfortable home on the Colombian imprint. With continued support from progressive music's key tastemakers, Fabri is coming off his best and most prolific year to date. Continuing that momentum as the new year begins, Fabri makes a welcome return to Clubsonica with a powerful remix of 'Haumea'. Backed by a full, driving groove, the Villa Mercedes resident has carved out a strong foundation, complemented with fluid pulses and percussive drive. Electric in design and hypnotic in scope, its glassy arps and shimmering overlays slowly descend over the framework, eventually carrying the piece into an emotive break. As the groove strips down, fragmented melodies and impassioned chord changes rise, opening up for moments of reflective warmth, before a gentle rush shifts energy into a heavenly finale.

The final interpretations of 'Haumea' are provided by Andre Moret who returns to the label for his second appearance. Amidst much praise, the Brazilian's Clubsonica debut 'Recover' landed in January of 2020, setting the course for a breakout year. Droid9, Freegrant Music and Mango Alley also played host to Andre's progressive sounds, while Hernan Cattaneo continued with his steadfast support. Now returning to Clubsonica for his first remix, Andre delivers two stunning renditions of 'Haumea'. Energetic and groovy in equal measure, Andre's main mix perfectly characterizes his clean, buoyant production style. A spacious foundation provides an immense sense of space, as lively percussion and playful electronics carry a wonderful dancefloor sensibility. Fragmented vocals and a shimmering arp further the narrative as the first act evolves, ultimately leading to dramatic break and thrilling drop. Meanwhile, Andre's 'Night' Mix stays to true to the main themes from his main mix, while opting for a fuller groove and greater peak time appeal. Building beautifully, kaleidoscopic arps and a wave of sizzling effects unite for a dynamic moment during the break, perfectly foreshadowing a striking final movement. Two stunning renditions from the fast-rising Brazilian artist, rounding out another must have offering from Clubsonica Records.
