Having established himself as a talented, Jungle-influenced artist, Sam Binary is to appear on The North Quarter with his first extended project on the label. Collaborating with fellow producer Deviant on three tracks and spanning multiple tempos, the EP stays rooted in a common theme: Sam Binary’s love letter to 90s Intelligent Jungle. 

  Using modern techniques and production styles combined with classic hardware such as the E5000 Ultra sampler and the Mackie CR1604-VLZ mixing desk, the Bristol producer has created a unique, 90s-reminiscent sound. The result is bundled in a 7-track EP, equally suited for the dance floor as it is for listening at home.

“This release is really a love letter to 90s Intelligent Jungle and the Liquid Funk that emerged after it in the 2000s, paying homage to the music that inspired me to originally start producing nearly a decade ago”, Sam Binary explains. ‘Reality Slip’ will be released August 19th on The North Quarter.

Throughout the history of the Jungle / Drum & Bass people have always had a soft spot for the more soulful, deep side of the genre. Some people have resisted the urge to join the ever-increasing upward trajectory of aggression and loudness, and one artist that fits within this box is Carlito. He has always stayed true to the roots; Always jazzy, always soulful, and always rolling.

Carlito & Addiction (his duo alias with DJ Addiction) have been at the forefront of Drum & Bass ever since its original movement, with residencies at two London club nights that helped shaped the scene we all know and love today - Speed (later Swerve) and Movement. The duo played a vital role in shaping the more musical side of Drum and Bass and are frequently referenced as a source of inspiration by emerging talent. 

'Heart In Her Hands' is the first taste of a very exciting new project from Carlito on Liquid V.

For our final release of 2022 we're delighted to welcome back Jaise for his 2nd Metalheadz EP.

The 'Something In My Mind' EP is a continuation of Jaise's exploration of light and dark musical elements coexisting together, inhabiting the same space and positively flourishing. This is immediately evident in the first offering 'Take A Closer Look' which opens ominously but progresses with the help of a twinkly piano melody.

Throughout the EP Jaise experiments with various drum patterns, time signatures and moods, a gift brought about by his clever creativity and an enthusiasm to try something different. That's also what makes this such an enticing assemblage of music constructed with a diverse range of listening environments in mind.

M-zine returns to Sofa Sound Bristol with a very special project - his debut album, 'Know When You're Ready'.

It's a milestone moment for an artist whose output has matured, marinated and developed for over a decade to a natural pinaccle. 

M-zine represents everything we love at Sofa Sound and the album is layered with warm textures and organic tones to form a rich body of work with great depth that rewards both your patience and your sound system.

With influences rooted in dub, techno, funk and soul, M-zine embraces the lost art of simplicity and is focused on getting the most out of just 4 or 5 core elements so everything works together nicely in the mix. 

Written mostly during covid; clubs were closed, but M-zine had his rig at home and used the isolation to craft his own little soundscape; something pure and introspective, nice and simple. 

Its subtle, meditative and Sofa Sound through and through - a warm collection of tracks for you to appreciate.
