I started out with an idea played on the guitar for a song, mostly 2-5-1s which after listening back, I really didn't like much.  Instead of throwing it away, I instead took the recorded guitar and dropped it into granulator in Ableton, added some effects and a few LFOs, which produced the sound at the beginning and end of the song. Those sounds are all guitar.

After setting it aside for a few days, I felt inspired to return to the piece. I had Eric Dolphy's Hat & Beard on my mind recently, so I came up with a pattern played on guitar that always feels like it's falling, and since it's in nine and uses primarily the whole tone scale, it doesn't really feel like it ever resolves. I came up with two different melodies to play over top, each telling a slightly different story. I then ended it with some hand percussion, which I have to say was a lot of fun to play. Especially the Agogô and the hand claps.
