ARTIST OF THE WEEK: THODORIS TRIANTAFILLOU

Hailing from the Greek capital, Thodoris Triantafillou has excelled in all corners of the industry after devoting his life and career to a creative output that illustrates a concoction of influences from across the musical sphere. Recognized by peers and fans through a stream of compelling releases on labels such as Rhythmetic and Souvenir, it’s the composition of the philosophy behind a record, the raw energy that electronic formats have to offer, and an exploration of the inner self that makes Thodoris’s productions stand out amongst the rest.
Over the past 12 months, Thodoris’ position within the dance music industry has propelled after breaching the national Greek iTunes Top 10 with “The Way”, co-produced with regular associate, CJ Jeff. One milestone onto another, Thodoris then championed all niche’s that lay in the DJ/Producer pathway with the outlook of always pushing forward as an artist to the next task at hand. Testament to this, are the events Thodoris has been hand picked for, from peak time performances at some of the most notorious European mainstays, to the sun fuelled sets that festivals and balaeric affairs alike provide.
As time pushes on and music evolves, as does Thodoris. Keeping the unrelenting yet satisfying pace of the past, he looks to the horizon as awe inspired by the beautiful scene as day one. Already cemented as coordinator to Athens based Rhythmetic Records, new monuments will reveal themselves through imprints such as Bedrock and Lapsus in the following year. 2014 further brings a new light in the form of “The Glory Hill Music Studios”, from which you can expect new personal productions and the birth of a new imprint that promises to showcase a format that motivates the man behind Thodoris Triantafillou.

Kevin Huizing AKA Budakid is a Berlin based music producer/dj. Coming from a very musical family, it was only a matter of time before young Budakid started playing an instrument of his own. As a drummer in a drum ensemble, the soon-to-be producer/dj got his first taste of beats and he wanted more. Having a good sense of rhythm helped him as a fledgling dj. Before long, Budakid landed his first residency in one of Utrecht’s most popular clubs. Although he wasn’t of legal age, several clubs asked him to perform and Budakid showed his promise by measuring up to peers twice his age.

But as it happens with a lot of dj’s, only dj’ing wasn’t enough for his own musical output. So Budakid sought out to prove his worth as a self-taught producer. Influenced by the likes of Joris Voorn, Stimming, Trentemøller and acts such as Massive Attack, Radiohead and Caribou, the Dutchman developed a very melodic style of his own. A typical Budakid song has floating melodies, the right set of chords and some strong, energetic vibes all mashed together. All this made him a crowd favorite at festivals like Tomorrowland, Fusion Festival, Sonar Festival, Feel Festival, Amsterdam Dance Event and SonneMondSterne and clubs such as Katerblau (DE), Sissyphos (DE), Watergate (DE), Cafe D’anvers (BE), Thuishaven (NL) and Melkweg (NL).

His music has been already supported by heavyweights such as Sasha, Joris Voorn, Guy J, Kölsch and Deadmau5. That’s something that didn’t happen overnight. Budakid’s tracks have been released on respected labels like Einmusika, Last Night On Earth, All Day I Dream, Get Physical and Audiomatique. Well-known blogs and magazines including Deep House Amsterdam, FAZE Magazine and VICE’s Thump are very enthusiastic about the producer’s tracks. So it’s safe to say Budakid isn’t just another kid on the block. Already regarded as a more than reliable producer/dj by his peers, nothing stands in the way of Budakid to become one of the greats.

Progressive Astronaut Podcast 051 || Budakid (Live) @ Arosa Electronica Festival [21-03-2019]

An artist who continues to impress with a growing portfolio of high-calibre music, Hot TuneiK returns to Proton Music with the striking twin-track "Circles of You". Remixes come courtesy of Hungarian and Argentinean stars.

DJ, producer, promoter and record label owner, Hot TuneiK has found himself at the forefront of Mexico's underground dance scene. Unforgettable Hookah showcase events and a unique brand of deep and progressive house have seen regular appearances for the likes of Balkan Connection, Sound Avenue and Particles amount to almost 300 production credits. An April 2018 EP for Proton Music shone a spotlight on the Hot TuneiK name before remixes from Lanvary and Matter continued the "Revival". Now returning, the flowing melodic lines of "Circles of You" meander enticingly before a deep beat and rich percussion filter into range. Building majestically, a simple grooved arpeggio provides another rhythmic anchor before extending in range into the third movement. White-noise washes add to the overall character in an elegant work. Partner track, "Melancolia", opens with a deep and flowing rhythm that hypnotises with its muted melodic underpinning. Weaving a magical spell, cadenced arpeggios and freeform string and key motifs are sprinkled liberally across the upper frequencies to mesmerising effect before joining forces with the sumptuous rhythm in the second half.

Hungarian duo Peter Makto & Gregory S are no strangers to success. Founders of the Truesounds Music label and DJ agency, their hard work has seen them become high-profile names at home. Simultaneously, a production career has found the duo on the catalogues of some of the finest labels that include Bondage Music, King Street Sounds and Go Deeva. September 2018's "Purple Rain" saw a full debut on Proton Music with a glorious twin-track offering and a remix of Michael A's "My Style" earlier in the year is now followed by a hypnotic reworking of Hot TuneiK. Using the arpeggio sequences found in "Circles of You" to impressive effect, Peter Makto & Gregory S have created a mesmerising remix that retains dancefloor character with chest-thumping kick and ticking percussive flavour. The coruscating patterns of Hot TuneiK's rich chord progressions add further depth in a compelling track.

A relative newcomer to the underground dance scene, Sebastian Sellares has quickly found himself as a sought-after producer under his own name and Monje moniker. With a "driving progressive house style" that has seen his work feature on Or Two Strangers, AMITABHA and PHW Elements, support has come from Hernan Cattaneo and Graziano Raffa. Now debuting on Proton Music, the Sebastian Sellares remix is an elegantly crafted affair that makes intelligent use of original components as a foundation for an array of new musical ideas to flow. The central riff from "Circles of You" plays a pivotal role as new motifs ripple around it in shimmering delay. Making their presence felt at the stripped back mid-point, they emerge into the third movement backed by a wonderful new bassline that ties superbly to the driving beat and high-cadence percussion. The result is sublime affair hallmarked in quality.

Centrifugal forces keep Hot TuneiK's "Circles of You" spinning with ever-increasing power.

Treating us this summer, Swedish new comers Whirl and Ecuadorian rising talent Paul Diep each present two cuts that convey their true sound, one of movement. 
Paul's Track 'Phanton' takes us on a gentle ride with his elicit synths and congruent melodies. Paul strikes an emotional chord with his style, 'Phanton' attains seductive waves followed by moving percussions and deep driven drums. 
Whirl on the other hand deliver 'Target Practice'. A celestial tune that will take you through galaxies and back. Whirl supply a heavy bass-line that is followed with a clever set of percussions and drums, the synth created conveys a sense of none-rest, always hitting the perfect celestial wave. 

Accompanying both Originals Dunkelheit has Invited Berlin's rising Talent Ede and Belgian Producer Bigasti to remix a track each. 
Bigasti remits a remix that charges 'Phanton' with a driven melody and deep bass-line. Ede on the other handadds his signature touch of a wobbly acidic bass-line and a High geared melody that adds a twist to the collection.

Es war kurz nach dem Garbicz 2017 als ich bei SC über das erste Set vom Amount gestolpert bin. Angeworfen und sofort war mir klar … das geil. Als ich dann rausgefunden habe das Amount das Soukie zum Windish ist war mir alles klar. Seitdem verfolge ich das Projekt stetig. Zu meiner großen Freude macht Nayan in letzter Zeit auch mit Amount gerne Podcast und war sofort für unsere Reihe zu begeistern. 

Über Nayan könnte ich jetzt noch viel schreiben … URSL, Soukie & Windish, WUZA … aber ich lass mal lieber die Musik sprechen … viel zu warm heute.

We are back with an autumn mix of some driving melodic progressive house. Unfortunately, our events with Guy Mantzur and Guy J have been cancelled this year due to Covid-19.
