In August 2019 I posted a track made with Adelmo Silva in  the EDM genre.   Adelmo did the mix.   This is a remix of the same track with emphasis on the rock side.   Except for the guitars and some of the percussion I have used the same stems we put down in the original mix (and have shortened the song somewhat).

You And Me

This is a version of the unfinished song originally recorded by Jeff Buckley, son of Tim Buckley, and Elizabeth Fraser of the Cocteau Twins.

The two recorded a rough demo of this beautiful piece during their short-lived time together, however it was never formally released or even properly recorded. Sadly, Jeff Buckley died in 1997 at the age of 30. 

As beautiful as the song is (and how can it not be with those 2 angelic voices singing), I have always been left with the impression that it isn't actually finished and it deserves to be so. In short, I think that there is an opportunity to bring this song to a much wider contemporary audience and, in doing so, draw attention to the great legacy of these 2 artists.

For this version we have retained the opening lyric, “My eyes are baptism” and the chorus but created a new narrative for the song.

Like a lot of musicians and songwriters, I've been using the coronavirus shutdown as a time to work intensively on a new album that's slowly been taking shape over the past few months. "Shelter for Your Soul" is the first of the new songs I'll be uploading in the weeks ahead. It features the fabulous Wendy Lynn Staats on violin. (Wendy is the multitalented drummer/ violinist/ singer for the Madison band Sunspot.)
Main guitars are my Gretsch 2420 hollowbody and my '66 Guild Starfire XII.

Update:

I just learned that James Horbett, whose music inspired this song, passed away last year after a courageous battle with cancer. 

His wonderful music, song craft and incredible talent will always remain an inspiration to me, but the world is a poorer place without him.

Based on a chord sequence from the song 'There's No Constant' by James Horbett, this was the first rhythm guitar song I wrote using my 12-string guitar.

Lyrically inspired by the song 'Wharf Rat' by Robert Hunter and Jerry Garcia, and (somewhat obviously) by the movie 'On The Waterfront'.
