01. Rayko & Elena Hikari - Looking To Your Soul (Cosmic Club version

The London-based DJ and producer Phil Mison is back in style—by which we mean proper unabashed jazz-&-funk-loaded Balearic-style—with the new single ‘Amor Bailar’ under his Ambala-moniker.

The track releases January 12 on Music For Dreams and features a selection of the MFD usual suspects. Young guns WALTHER and OliO have their signature on the programming: a sleek, cruising groove adorned by guitars courtesy of Jonas Krag aka Santino Surfers, and vocals by trio Iyami Aje.

‘Amor Bailar’ comes off Mison’s next album, one of the big projects on the horizon for Music For Dreams.

What do you get when one of the UK's finest music makers goes into the studio with one of Norway's fastest-rising producers? Listen to Offshore Sunsets and find out. That's exactly what happened when Fila Brazilia's Steve Cobby & Third Attempt hooked up to create some stunning sounds for their new EP.

B Human kicks things off with the first of two collaborations, and it's all kinds of rolling, hypnotic, spaced-out, Balearic business. Floating minor keys, walking bass and a gorgeous chugging guitar make it sun-blessed.

Language Of The Heart is the solo offering by Third Attempt, and is a tripped out smoker's delight. Soul II Soul, Crazy P and Nightmares on Wax can all be felt, perfect for those early evening or 'back-to-mine' sessions.

Finally, Feeling Seen sees the chaps working their collaborative magic again on a hazy, jazzy, broken beat, doozy of a track that is deep, stripped back and funky as all hell.

His musical works since 2006 includes escapades on Prins Thomas's ́Full Pupp ́, indie label ́Smalltown Supersound ́, minimal house label ́Kindisch ́ and the legendary norwegian space house label ́Luna Flicks ́. His three superb album releases and remixes of indie acts such as Metronomy and The XX has certainly made his mark on the scene, always led by his complex, weird and wonderful take on club music; melodic and cinematic, but always with house clubs in mind. Diskjokke has played everywhere from Panoramabar Berlin to Space Ibiza and Liquid Room Tokyo.

Hear no evil ́ is an electro funk house banger, where tention is drawn from minimal dub disco randomness, heavy on the 2 ́s and 4 ́s, to the reliefng melodic patterns that makes the classic Diskjokke-sound. Dubbed out disco house from planets yet to be found. 

This EP brings a completely new take on club music, although honouring its inspirations from funk, disco, dub and house in its finest ways.

The much-loved Balearic Biscuits-series from Music For Dreams is being revived for a fourth edition, gathering a new batch of eccentric balearica from the label’s recent catalogue.

The Balearic style is a famously elusive one, born from eclectic tastes converging on a utopian idea. Different styles orbiting the same principle: forget the rules and just have a good time.

For those following the Music For Dreams label, not a wholly unfamiliar dictum. And on that note, let’s break open this Balearic Biscuits Vol. 4 and have a look inside.

The compilation runs 18 tracks long and covers both the downtempo and dancefloor domains along with everything in between. As far as classic chill-out vibes go, there’s Ambala’s ‘Amor Bailar’ or Pepe Link’s ‘Vem Menina’ or islandman’s remix of Dj Pippi & Willie Graff’s ‘Piel A Piel’, all donning different local flavors. Copenema’s ‘Can’t Sleep’ and ‘Ogum’ by Visti’s Vinyl Collective both extend to Latin American ground while Wille’s ‘Bilancia Vero’ and CheapEdits’ ‘Cozmika’ lean towards 80’s Italo Disco territory.

Tolga Böyük & Kenneth Bager’s ’Re-arrange Your Face’ and Pete Blaker’s reworking of Rheinzand’s ‘Love Games’ show a sterner side of things, while Gerd Janson’s remix of Islandman’s ‘Aku Membawa’, Valentin Huedo’s ‘In The Jungle’ or WALTHER & OliO’s tracks are mainroom house moments.
