BIO
Zaatar زْعَتر music is the peculiar combination of both her origins : Moroccan and Belgian. 

She finds her inspiration in the post punk and EBM movement of the late 80’ and early 90’.

Her tracks are therefore built around a gritty and rough baseline that sets the mood for frenetic body dances. Melodies and sounds inherited from her home country - Morocco- completes her soundscape in a way that is her own.

During her DJ sets she invites the public on a captivating journey from light to darkness, an oscillation between joy and melancholy sometimes punctuated by oriental melodies.

Co-founder and resident of the Laisse Tomber Les Filles collective, she works to celebrate women on the decks, freedom and diversity, values that never leave her, especially behind the decks.

She joins the label Ritmo Fatale with the track Abiad Al Layali already considered as an EBM reference.

Last month, WOEIFM invited me to play for their monthly show on @operator.radio. I took the opportunity to create a New Beat special because, as a New Beat lover, I've always wanted to do that! 

Belgian New Beat, often just called New Beat, was an underground subculture and music scene that thrived in Belgium during the 1980s and 1990s. It was especially prominent in Antwerp and Brussels, and eventually gained widespread popularity across Western Europe.


I also added some interview snippets from back in the day.

Active for about fifteen years in the electronic music scene, Djedjotronic has forged a strong and distinctive musical identity. Inspired by retro futuristic aesthetics and the rave culture of the mid-90’s, he’s above all a music producer and a sound enthusiast. With a great curiosity about the relationship between art & technology, Djedjotronic found in the machines, the perfect vessel to explore his creativity. 

After collaborating with iconic artists such as Miss Kittin, Boys Noize, Douglas Mc Carthy and remixing the band Depeche Mode, Djedjotronic released his debut album 'R.U.R' on Boysnoize Records in 2018. Navigating between martial Electronic Body Music, Kraftwerkian BO and leftfield techno, he crafts the sonic manifesto that he continues to develop on his solo EPs for labels such as International Chrome or Italo Moderni. 

In 2023 he completed the production for the album 'God Is A Woman' by Swedish artist REIN and wrote the soundtrack for the short film ‘Le Ciel' by Sebastien Jounel, Djedjotronic is now preparing to unveil a series of singles on his own label, Superwave.

Bio

I use midi-keyboard, laptop, partially guitar and bass guitar. Influences: I suppose it’s 70-80s Gothic rock and Post-Punk (Bauhaus, Siouxsie & The Banshees, Tones On Tail, And Also The Trees), Shoegaze (Slowdive, Tamaryn) and some of the lo-fi artists (Deep Sht, Gary War); maybe, John Maus at some point.

I love dark ambient and classic psychedelic rock. I totally appreciate Johnny Greenwood, impressionist music of the late 19th century – I guess all that somehow gave me the current mood. I make music not because it’s cool, but because it’s something I cannot be not-doing. This is a good chance to connect myself with something immortal, eternity – that’s what actually people do through the art. Art is a focus of common humanity sadness and even despair.
