It has been quite some time since the last time we gathered for a night of MBTS. I wanted to take some time after the pandemic to be quiet and see how the dance music scene would evolve, and what sounds would come out of the standstill that was Covid. Now that I have a good sense of where I want to be sonically, and what kind of energy I want to spread onto dance floors, I am ready to restart MBTS in 2023. I was given the opportunity to curate the lineup for our Preservation Society art car, Lucy S Cargo, last year at Burning Man. I brought my friends @oba-flip and @nodestinationmusic onboard, and we soundtracked a wonderful sunrise and morning on Playa. Here is my set from that day on my favourite snail :)

I am beyond excited to present to you the recording of my 5.5 closing sunrise DJ set for the Calling All Magical People (@camp-festival) 2025 set. 

This was a meaningful, special one, celebrating the 4th of July in a time of the utmost turmoil in America and in the world. I knew my commentary about America in the 4th of July had to be bold this year, and I risked killing a dance floor in making a statement about waking up to salvage democracy in the face of the rising and nascent facism taking root in the USA.

I hope you enjoy this journey, and I thank the dancers for being patience with me as I walk off stage due to technical difficulties, it took us amount to get started but we got there. 

Special thanks to @thezoharportal for collaborating with me in reading Mary Oliver’s poem “The Journey” for the intro track to acknowledge the collective grieving of relationships ending, and for the beautiful messaging that I was able to sprinkle with her poetic, mystical voice through the set.

My heartfelt thank you to the CAMP team and Therapy sound for believing in my vision and to Mick and Michael Z for setting up the tarp and the flag and everything else as we were battling the rains and broken CDJ’s - this truly was a collective odyssey into the new day of a new America.

M.B.T.S. (Most Below The Surface) vol.1

Burning Man 2015, 

What a week. What a challenge. What a breeze. What a great time. What an awful time. At times, I wished it wouldn't end. At times, I wanted to go home...REAL home.

This was my 6th burn, and what I walked away with was largely a reinforcement of what I learned the year before: Burning Man is complicated. There are lots of ups and downs. It's unpredictable.

Is this conclusion I've reached the same conclusion all experienced burners eventually come to? Or did I happen to have 2 challenging years in a row? Will I ever have an Innocent Burn just like my first one where everything was amazing all the time? I would like to.

This is my set from the Kalliope art car, recorded Wednesday night at 2am. The Kalliope crew was nice enough to let me host my own night and invite my dear friends to play on their amazing bus, which was a new and exciting thing for me to do that I'm super grateful for. One thing that was consistently awesome in my experience was the crew's unwavering positivity, enthusiasm, and humility - it was inspiring to work with them.

The night was blisteringly cold: my fingers, ears, feet, and nipples nearly froze off, so you'll hear some rawness (sloppiness) in this recording...but it does have its moments too. I suppose the ups and downs you'll hear in the recording are a metaphor for the ups and downs I experienced at the burn. So from that perspective, this is the perfect way for me to communicate my personal experience to you. I hope you enjoy it, and hope to see you in 2016.
