First made visible via his rework of Patten's Peachy Swan, The Slow Revolt's first single, This Dark Matter / Doldrums was two hymns to a dead affair that struck a chord with XfM, Clash, 6music and Radio1 - as well as earning the support slot for MMOTHS recent tour, Ofei, America's Balmorhea, and Max Cooper and Ghosting Season.

South-East London's Joe Mirza, performing under the alias The Slow Revolt, has unveiled something rare - his own brand of contemporary electronic soul. A contrast against the superficial hyperactivity of online life, The Slow Revolt deals with the emotions that are harder to reveal in public.

His new single, 'All Your Own', is a perfect example. Lyrically, Joe is exploring the line between love and possessiveness, of nurturing someone only to feel eventual abandonment. The understated and propulsive beat flickers, enveloped by rousing synth bass and tar-thickened bells. There is an element of nostalgia in these textures, a deeper sadness. In playful minimalism and vocal intimacy, 'All Your Own' elevates, transcending the duality of love and possession. The Slow Revolt escapes the formula here, marrying a inner hysteria with a stark exterior. The result truly resonates, like with the very best songwriters, Joe has an innate sense of communication with the listener. These modern ballads recall those of Deptford Goth or Amateur Best.

Initially receiving attention for his remix of Patten's 'Peachy Swan', The Slow Revolt's singles are a regular fixture on radio, counting the likes of John Kennedy as fans. He's signed to new label FIELDS Records, and has provided support on tours for MMOTHS and label mate Max Cooper. 'The Slow Revolt, has been previously hailed for his flawless contrasting of genres. His newest track “Lean” is another plunge pool into the enchanting sound of beautiful tranquility and lovely layers.

The consistent guitar melody opens the track into a misty landscape of morning dew and seaside freshness, complete with subtle bursts of distorted guitars and a building tension of unpredictable electronica percussion. Mirza’s enchanting vocals bounce beautifully across the layered melodies, building in each bar to a pinnacle of bubbling sounds, changing the scenery from an empty landscape to a busy crossroads of texturised sounds.

Whilst maintaining his soft vocals throughout, the instrumentals in “Lean” carry the textured tension, blending beautifully into a melodic chaos that seems both unnerving and utterly soothing at the same time.'

'London artist The Slow Revolt isn't one to stand still.

Continually moving forward, continually accepting new ideas, the songwriter - real name Joe Mirza - will release new song series 'Sketches' next month.
Ahead of this, Clash is able to premiere new cut 'Stitched Hearts', and it's subtle progression is indicative of the EP as a whole.

The Slow Revolt seems to specialise in hushed songwriting, in work that is sparse yet remarkably intense. 'Stitched Hearts' sits atop of bed of smouldering electronics, Joe Mirza's voice gently nudging against slender guitar lines.

The sustained atmosphere is remarkable, with 'Stitched Hearts' recalling The xx or even Thom Yorke's solo work in its execution.

There are few artists making seriously great music while not taking themselves too seriously; that difficult feat is one rarely attempted and even less often successfully carried out. Benoit & Sergio have seemingly effortlessly managed to pull off that contradictory trick, producing songs that sometimes seem like musical open letters: editorials narrated in the voices of unidentified, yet totally recognizable colorful characters, read aloud against a backdrop of beautifully lush, warm and sensuous electronic pop music. The unexpected juxtaposition of such pristine production and playful lyricism -- first exhibited on 2009's highly praised <i>What I've Lost</i> EP, which included the brilliantly sardonic single "Full Grown Man"  -- exemplifies why Benoit & Sergio are one of the most unique and interesting outfits in dance music. It's good news, then, that the Washington, D.C./Berlin-based outfit's eagerly expected DFA debut maintains both the charm and expert craftsmanship of its predecessors. 

Single "Boy Trouble" (the titular counterpoint to "Full Grown Man") launches the EP with all manner of reasons to take to the dancefloor: An exigent beat, a beckoning synthline, a bassline of understated funk. Sergio lethargically sings about girls, making note of both their ups and the downsides, without the hindrance of subtlety. "I love girls/With legs like a Ferrari" he states before noting (bemoaning?) the fact that "You need poetry to turn these girls on." It's a song for the best part of the night, full of compulsive rhythms and a climax that builds on sparkly synths. The accompanying remix from Visionquest -- the Detroit-bred, Berlin-based label led by producers Seth Troxler, Ryan Crosson, Lee Curtiss and Shaun Reeves -- amps things up, making the beat a more prominent, driving and club banging force. The flipside features "Full Grown Man" and "What I've Lost," which reveal themselves to be worth more than a few revisits. 

Benoit and Sergio Giorgini -- originally from Paris and Chicago, respectively -- have previously released music on producer Bruno Pronsato's thesongsays label and Ghostly International's Spectral Sound. Sergio also makes music as one half of both Birds & Souls and NDF.
