In a little over a week, we get to dive right in. The lush new Benji Vaughan album, Even Tundra, drops on Twisted Records September 2nd, but TODAY, we get to give away the title track for absolutely FREE. Sounding like an instrumental from Thom Yorke's 2006 solo album, The Eraser, this dark and mysterious track is not so much bleak and brooding, as it is melancholy, mournful, and introspective. The elegance of its simplicity dives well below the surface to a rich sonic netherworld. A realm of fluttering melodies and subdued percussion. The delicate balance struck between point and counterpoint is underscored by a wistful, almost bittersweet aesthetic. And this interplay runs the course of the album. It's not psytrance, it's not Shpongle, it's not like anything Twisted has unleashed before. This is a mature record from a veteran producer. It's a look at life and love after the party. It's the look ahead, and the baggage left behind. Dive in.

The shift is underway. We've seen the writing on the wall, and the transformational paradigm realignment in the electronic music industry is afoot. No longer are fans content to bang their heads in hedonistic ecstasy before passing out under a car in the parking lot. Supporters of the scene want more--and they're getting it. The sacred bass and downtemple scenes are emerging from their west coast haven to spread the word from coast to coast.

And it's a European producer who has gotten the ball rolling. Since the 80's, Toby Marks has been an influential producer and label head, amassing a huge catalog of tunes and treasures. His most recent album, Apollo, breathes new life into the industry, and as such, the remixes are equally potent. Artists like GAUDI, Kaya Project, and Eat Static take their turns on Ollopa: Apollo Remixed, and the results are extraordinary.

Today, we premiere the Desert Dwellers remix of "All Sleeping." This reset button for the body and soul is a liquid trip down healing waters into a soothing pool of transfixing percussion and light, glitchy melodies. Slip away on a whisper with this translucent delight that captures the mind. It's out there. And there's no doubt the boys are going to break it out when they play Sonic Blossom in Denver, CO next week. It's too good to keep locked up.

Brendan Angelides is a Los Angeles-based electronic music producer who records and performs live as Eskmo. His multi-genre compositions have been featured on influential labels like Ninja Tune, Warp Records and Planet Mu. While Angelides’ tracks encompass a wide range of electronic styles, he avoids classifications. Much like his previous releases, ‘Language’ is reflective and constantly exploring new terrain. The album cover, which was created by Trek Matthews for the project, shows the Egyptian god Thoth who is the master of writing, magic, science and healing. Above him are the merging of sun and moon and Ouroboros. The themes within the tracks range from the Self to relationship, fear, nostalgia and the sonic interpretation of not folding as expressed in “World of Dread.” The ‘Language’ EP oozes classic Eskmo textures while diving into emotive rushes, minimally avante-pop melodies and chunky dance aesthetics turned on their head.

His 2010 self-titeld full-length, released on Ninja Tune, was described by Future Sequence as “Create(ing) his own sound.” and BBC Music noted the album as “Electrifyingly enveloping…Mind-melting invention.” Ninja Tune recording artist and film composer Amon Tobin hailed his work as “some of the best production I’ve heard in recent times” in 2009. Shortly thereafter, the pair teamed up to release a collaborative project under the name ESKAMON on Eskmo’s own record label, Ancestor, in early 2010. The ‘Language’ EP is the latest Eskmo release on Ancestor since his collaboration with Tobin.
