The ocean was a dense shade of azure, it glimmered and flickered beneath the glow of the warm mid afternoon sunshine. Overlooking it was a collection of towering skyscrapes, where nature met technology. The blue tech park had sat here for many years, visitors had come and gone, each with more sense of self importance than the last. However, they were nothing in comparison to the vast weight and superiority of the waves which crashed against the shore from time to time. A gentle reminder of the real superpowers round these parts... 

Telephones is back on European Carryall and this time has taken a left turn, entering unfamiliar territory with fast paced cuts which blurs the lines between techno and balearic music. It's excellent, riveting stuff which could be played over a romantic dinnertime sunset or in the depths of the rave at 4am. A unique record with an innovative twist. We dig it.

Dutch legend Orlando Voorn arrives on Transient Nature this March with ‘Forcefield EP’. 

Since launching in 2021, Wanderist’s Transient Nature label has played host to an impressive array of artists such as Scan7, Black Cadmium, Dukwa, and himself, picking up support from Lena Willikens, India Jordan, Hunee, and many more. For the imprint’s fifth release, Dutch titan Orlando Voorn steps up to deliver a four-tracker of sublime dance music, taking in influences from techno, electronica, and house for a diverse and exceptionally produced EP. Leading the release is ‘Locked in’, with skippy breakbeats, hypnotic pads, and bright leads combining for a delightful trip. ‘Forcefield energy’ maintains the colourful sound palette, with a four-four kick pattern meeting sparkling synths, bouncing low end and sizzling background FX to keep the energy levels high. ‘Pokerface’ picks up the pace for a heavy-hitting techno jam as dub-techno stabs, rocking drums, and trippy FX form a late-night roller. Closing the release is ‘Apolonia’, featuring Sol Resol, which sees Voorn draw for flanging percussion and delayed hits making their mark across the staggered drum pattern.

Eclectic Californian DJ and producer Urulu lines up a stacked release on Kalahari Oyster Cult which comes complete with a tripped out cosmic remix by Montréal's Ex-Terrestrial.

While Urulu's explored a variety of styles throughout his career, his latest work flips rhythm on its head with diverse variations, raw textures and a psychedelic motif. Adding Ex-Terrestrial into the mix 'Precinct 9' proved to round out this stellar EP, as his bubbly and captivating rendition delivers an infectious cut for the dancefloor.

Urulu's 'Foreign Depths' EP is set for release in October.

Hot off their latest release with T. Jacques, London-based djs/party-turned label Tessellate show no signs of slowing down as they bring us the 'Drop Down' EP from Parisian dj and producer, Armless Kid. 

Marking their sixth release, Tessellate have by now established a very tight signature sound and vision for their label. Concentrating on club-readiness, Tessellate is shaping up to be first and foremost a dj’s label, concentrating on function over home-listening. However, this never goes far enough to reduce any of their output to “dj only” material, as their careful curation always has space for functional groovers with tuneful, harmonious elements and headier vibes.

Per usual, their sixth is full of all these signature ingredients. The A1 and original “Club Mix” of Drop Down provides the most tranquil listen of the bunch: a broken beat and flanged breaks set the scene, as catchy bursts of acid and synth lines reminiscent of old Project Pablo tunes ring out over the top. The B side features deeper and more minimal vibes across two more original cuts.
 
The A2 “Acid Reflex” flip of the leading track by Opal Sunn is our pick of the bunch. The Berlin duo (who’s latest release on Nick Hoeppner’s Touch From A Distance imprint is a must-listen) take the original up a notch, layering additional percussion over the original, replacing the smooth chords with rapid, sequenced synth work and finishing it off with a hefty touch of acid. Dreamy, dubby and sweet in patches, though techy and functional all the same, it all adds up to make a tune with Tessellate written all over it.

What’s special about Tessellate has been their ability to create a brand so in touch with all it’s built upon, a testament to their A&R. If you’ve ever seen Tessellate play or been to their parties, you’ll know what we mean (if you haven't, you should make it one of your post-quarantine plans). By now the Tessellate label has become all the right amount of predictable. The consistency is there, and you know what you’ll get with Tessellate, but it’s fresh every time and we definitely can’t wait for more.

PREMIERE: Armless Kid - Drop Down (Opal Sunn Acid Reflex)

House heads rejoice as the don himself, Iron Curtis is back at it with a stomping two-part release on Hudd Traxx Records. ‘Total Art Of Living’ includes 10 tracks of his signature swing, groove and snappy sounds to grace the record bags and USBs, the world round. 
Our pick of the first release is ‘Candi 101’, a dubbed down little number that has a great broken beat vibe and provides a nice contrast to the peak time vibes of ‘Everything’s Alright’. To build on this, an excerpt from Hudd Traxx themselves, ‘Total Art Of Living contains straight-up house jams, hints of techno, nods to broken beat, references to Detroit and a few interludes for good measure. 
These new cuts are further proof that Iron Curtis music has always celebrated the deepest foundations of the house and all its varieties, whilst resolutely refusing to get nostalgic.’
‘Total Art Of Living’ should be out on the 9th of September from Hudd Traxx and we shall be looking forward to it.
