Gold Panda, My Panda Shall Fly, Alien Panda Jury and now When Pandas Attack.

What the fascination is with putting the word Panda in you band or DJ name, I can't exactly comment on. What I have observed however, is that it seems to be prevalent in acts truly pushing boundaries within their respective genre.

The newest and youngest member of the 'Panda' society is When Pandas Attack - Delhi based musician and graphic designer Ankur Chauhan - someone who's recently popped up, quite literally out of nowhere and created official remixes for the likes of Sandunes and Monsoonsiren as well as uploaded a ton of tracks to his SoundCloud.

In general, electronic artists bringing organic warmth to their recordings are few and far between - yet Pandas does this in a raw and clear cut manner - one of a handful of artists capable of crafting a widescreen and organic-sounding world - full of dynamic space.

In line of that thought his mix comprises of a relatively down-tempo disposition: easy listening for those who’ve reached the dazed dawn after a wild night out, or for those making the best use of aural interlude. Its incremental progression is an insight into exactly what makes this kid tick - notable but, in the grand scheme, not revelatory. Maybe still, a touch mysterious - just the way we like it.

3024 is excited to announce "Panta Rei", the long-awaited debut album by London-based, Italian artist Ehua. This album, which comprises a collection of songs crafted over the span of a year and a half, is not just an exploration through sound but also a significant milestone in Ehua's personal and artistic development. For the first time, she explores her vocal expression while also incorporating a range of percussive and other analog and acoustic instruments, resulting in a distinctive set traversing various corners of the bass music continuum.

Accompanied by unique artwork created out of concrete by Jeroen Erosie, a booklet with background and photography and a short eponymous film, 'Panta Rei' represents an intricate 'gesamtkunstwerk'. An exciting blend of various media with contributions from a range of artists, of course all centered around Ehua's beautiful and intimate music. 

"Panta Rei" will be released on May 2nd, available on vinyl, as well as digitally and in booklet format. 3024 X Planet Wax are hosting a launch event on April 24th in South London.

The third release on Dubrunner's Menace label finds the soundsystem stalwart continuing to refine his distinctively modern club twist on dub sensibilities. Drawing elements of techno, trance, amapiano and dubstep into his lean and mean digi-dub workouts, Blackheart arrives as a laser-focused selection pitched at forward-facing DJs working the dance at peak time.

For all the weight powering the likes of 'Protocol', Dubrunner's distinctive style is rooted in minimalism. The tangible breathing room in the mix leaves plenty of space for every subtle synth flourish and spring reverb splash to shine while maintaining a seductive tension throughout, all the better to hold the dancefloor energy on a tight leash.

There's an even stronger sense of pressure bubbling under the surface on 'Blackheart' thanks to the looming low-end which purrs away underneath the crooked-but-driving drums, leaving the lead lines to add an emotive flourish as a foil to the introspective dub chords which shimmer through the track's latter stages.

'Bad Mind' is a precision-sculpted throw down shaped out by delicate percussive intrigue and snaking groove, leaning further into a dub techno palette to set the mood and offset by flickers of auto tuned vocals that nod to amapiano.

To round the EP off without easing up on sheer soundsystem impact, 'Night Shift' carries some of Dubrunner's most assured production work to date. The ramp up for the drop is undeniable, letting the bass snarl and the drums roll without losing that sharply-rendered restraint we've come to expect from one of the most inventive producers in the broad expanse of contemporary bass music.

'ECVA002', aka '5 Years of Echo Train' is a newly announced compilation by the Ōtautahi/Christchurch label of the same name. The imprint is celebrating its fifth year in rotation with a collection of tracks contributed by those who have already featured in its half decade life span.

One such contributor is Jagā, Echo Train's founder & conductor. 'Beam Trace' is a spacious showcase of Jagā's evolution not only as a label head, but a producer too. Rhythmic percussion is met by sci-fi melodies and breathy vocal samples, pushed along by electro-inspired key stabs.

Of the track, Jagā shared:

"The core of the song is from a dream I had aboard a distant space station. A pervasive vocal features throughout, which channels the crew's voices across the ship's intercom. The song unfolds through three emotional phases - a descent into darkness, a brief moment of uneasy stillness and an overwhelming intensity.

It all makes sense to me when listening, haha. It's always fascinating to hear how others perceive my art."

The release is in part dedicated to Lui Mill, a collaborator & friend of Echo Trains who sadly passed away last year. "We are honoured to have his incredible talent featured on this release," Echo Train shared.

'ECVA002, 5 Years of Echo Train' is available via Echo Train's Bandcamp & a very limited number of cassette tapes this Thursday, May 8.

@SSSLIP and @Betonbrutt have tapped up grime pioneer Trim to add his bars on 17th Grid release, pressed for the first time on vinyl !

Trim steps up to the mic for the lead track, 'Pigeons', which brings next-gen grime energy with raw, club-ready vibes and menacing bars that are underpinned by a wobbly low end, and it's all perfect for dance floor detonation. 'Transit Limb' dives into a nostalgic yet forward-thinking fusion of experimental grime and UK bass that subtly echoes the sounds of the early 2010s with twisted breaks and chopped vocals.
The boys also invited @Notiiton and @BeatriceMasters for two great remixes, Noti turned the lead track into a precise electro banger and Beatrice drowned Transit Limb to the darkest depths of the ocean to close the EP.
