Alejandro Mosso – Isolation Diaries

Isolation Diaries is Argentinian producer Alejandro Mosso’s 2nd album. It comes more than ten years after his debut, Hiperborea in 2005. The album’s title comes from the artist’s decision to distance himself from the world of electronic music and from his usual routines, to find a clarity of vision and purpose that would allow him to reach new vistas of artistic expression and emotional depth in music. He also consciously tried to bring the young, free, naïve and impulsive spirit of his earliest forays into music making, together with the experience, structure and professionalism that he has learned and harnessed in more recent times. He says “I think the album is warm, emotive and nostalgic but not dark nor sad. It is percussive and melodic but not laid back and Balearic. It is tribal and organic but still very precise”, as only electronic music can be. Voluntarily imposing a set of parameters and strategies can often be liberating. This is very evident in this music, which feels very unselfconscious and free.  The grooves are strong and infectious and the sounds are rich and satisfying, resulting in music that sounds very organic and unpremeditated. Which means Alejandro Mosso very successfully achieved what he set out to do. The album is accompanied by a Burnt Freidman remix of the track Isolation Diaries, and a Ricardo Villalobos remix of Deardrum.

This 2-Tracker by one of Munich’s finest electronic music producer talents Lukas Bohlender is truly mind blowing. Two powerful and emotive deep house joints, padded with layers of elegant synths and crafty percussions. State of the art!

A couple of years ago – around 2009/2010 - when we hosted our Black Label Sessions parties at Munich club Harry Klein we’ve regularly spotted a guy on the dancefloor – dancing and grinning – well he always seemed to enjoy himself hanging out at our parties – this guy was Lukas Bohlender. It didn’t take too long and a little chat has been held beside the DJ booth - exchanging thoughts about this and that and of course about the music or the DJ who was playing. So sooner or later the seed for our relation has been planted. When Lukas sent us his tune „Club Chateau“ in the autumn of 2012 he primarily wanted to hear our opinion but we were simply blown away and signed the track for the Various Artists threetracker Black Label #94 which has been released in spring 2013. Lukas tune went into the boxes and playlists from Agoria to Tiesto (no joke!) and marked a first success. The year after we hooked up Lukas in order to remix Robinn’s „The Game Is Now Over“ feat. Nathaniel Pearn (aka Natural Self) on the vocals – and again he did a great job delivering a beautiful remix. So we were quite curious and excited when Lukas knocked on our door earlier last year and played us two tracks he just finished – „The Sublime“ and „Curly Bun“ – and he truly took our hearts by storm again. Backed up by a floor frienly remix by Beanfield and Thomas Herb – The Sublime EP has been released in autumn 2016 on Compost Black Label.

Undoubtedly one of his country’s foremost electronic music artists, Pablo Bolivar is a man whose name will be familiar to most with an interest in discerning electronic music. A fierce proponent of quality-driven house, techno and everything in between, Bolivar’s much-respected works have led him to respected outlets such as Galaktika, Regular and Curle. However, it’s Bolivar’s work at his own Seven Villas label for which he is best known. A vehicle for music that Pablo describes as fitting his definition of “Musica Para Estar”, the label has been on a stunning run of form of late, epitomised by Bolivar’s last release, the Traverse EP, a collaboration with Joerg Schuster aka Sensual Physics, a German producer whose aesthetic expertly fits in with Seven Villas’.  A few months after the release, Bolivar and Sensual Physics have teamed up once more, this time with a ‘reprise’ of ‘Traverse’. Featuring 8 tracks reprised by Pablo to create new versions for a longer listen, the release offers a fascinating insight into the mind of a producer for whom experimentation is always key. 

Although he mostly keeps the spine of each track intact, this project enables Bolivar to add an escapist, cubby and ambient spirit to each travk, often adding a soft, deep and sophisticated club aura as he goes. Tasteful and subtle, the release can be viewed as a sequel, albeit one that pays homage to its predecessor in stunning and fitting fashion. Featuring a natural flow that meanders occasionally but still keeps the listener’s attention firmly intact, tracks such as ‘Mondragon’, ‘Malaga’ and ‘Miracle’ take on a new life of their own here, whereas the likes of ‘My Sense’ and ‘Lisbon’ also showcase Bolivar’s for the conceptual. A thought-provoking piece of work that conjures up warm feelings throughout, this ‘reprise’ version of ‘Traverse’ is a joyous listen from start to finish.

isolée returns to Maeve with his second solo release following the success of 2017's "Mangroove EP". 

Spanning four tracks, "Candy Apple Red EP", shows different sides to the German artists signature micro sound. The A1, "mad marauder" leans on a big room feel while still possessing all the intricacies of production isolée has become known for over his distinguished career. The title track comes on the A2, "candy apple red", a jovial trot through a languid land of disco-house. 

The flip side starts with, "you are", a sub terrain deep house number with all the feels of an isolée cut. Rounding things off on the B2 is "Jordi", a darker trip into the dancefloor, perfect for the small hours.
