Our ninth release is a special one that’s close to our hearts — announcing the ‘So AM’ EP by Gallery B. Currently living and working on Larrakia land (Darwin), Emma Stevenson (aka Gallery B / @gallerybmaking) is a producer and DJ with a deep appreciation of music. As one of the founding members of TSBU, Emma has played a significant part in the label’s inception, and fortuitously returns to the label full-circle to release the ‘So AM’ EP.

Taking cues from 90s production and the tranquil surrounds of Emma’s home in the Northern Territory, these tracks represent a new direction for Gallery B; a step away from previous ambient excursions into tropical-tinged downtempo. So AM may be a new direction, yet one which feels at home alongside previous Gallery B works — maintaining the delicate layers and dreamlike textures synonymous with her sound.

After a few months exploring the waters the Liquid Joy mix series is back with a mix from one of our favorite DJ's at the moment - @bethan_l ✨ 

Bethan is a DJ currently based in London, and can be regularly found playing at East London’s much loved queer venue, Dalston Superstore. Her style is not limited to one specific genre; she enjoys digging deep into her collection, playing a variety of 90s/early 2000s selections mixed with newer releases covering trance, acid, techno, breakbeat, golden era drum & bass and beyond, in order to take the listen on a journey through sonic history.

About the mix:

"This mix for Aquatic Formations traverses through downtempo electronica, atmospheric breaks and drum & bass. Most of the tracks in this mix are from vintage CD compilations (I am obsessed with the artwork & sounds from these eras) and I thought they were fitting for this lovely mix series."

Parallel Minds' 4th label release comes via a long-time friend of the label and one of the city's most idiosyncratic artists, @vibrant-matter. A drummer, producer, film composer, DJ, and a veteran of the city's experimental pop scene, Kieran Adams' music has intrigued us at the label for a long time. From label co-founder Ciel's early days as a local promoter/DJ, she had been inspired by Adams' psychedelic & percussive DJ sets and found a kindred spirit in someone who shared similarly diverse musical interests. After two distinct & spellbinding releases on ACT!’s (fka Egyptrixx) Halocline Trance and beloved experimental label Seance Centre, PM cofounders received a batch of demos from Adams that felt too ideal to pass up. Encompassing everything from abstract improv performances, sound poetry, dub riddims, voice notes from friends, jazz drum breaks — the tracks were simultaneously confounding while still firmly rooted in club music.

Parallel Minds 004 - Vibrant Matter - Syncrete EP

It would be insufficient to call Rory McPike “prolific”; it does a disservice to the depth and breadth of his oeuvre as Rings Around Saturn, Cactus Head, Bleekman, 2200, Dan White, and as one half of Turner St Sound. His work can be broken into a litany of different genres, but at the heart of it all lies an endlessly explorative spirit with a restless desire for expression. This impulse spans his diverse body of work and all the different facets of his musical practice.

‘All Things Shining’ touches on ambient, electroacoustic studies and filmic/VGM composition, but outside of these references, it stands as a beautiful suite of songs and a testament to the power of the creative impulse. Best Effort is proud to present the realization of Rory's vision.
