Synth ambassadors Birdsnake create their own brand of psychedelic infused downtempo electronica, exploring the line between digital and organic. Since the release of their 2023 debut EP ‘Birdsnake Begins’ via Naarm’s Bathtub Music, the Melbourne based four piece have been building crowds with their distinct immersive live shows. A free-flowing sensory experience that seamlessly combines acid jazz, psychedelic funk and down tempo grooves, the effect is a blend of dubbed out rhythms and percussive textures that pull audiences into droney realms. Today Birdsnake return with a glistening new single ‘Rare Amulet’, featuring luscious harp from Melbourne’s Genevieve Fry amidst pulsating nautical inspired sonics.

Intervals’ is the new record from Naarm-based musician and producer L Lewis out now on Bathtub Music. Blending jazz harmony, electronic production, and improvisation, the release expands on the sonic palette introduced in their debut. Built from live studio recordings in Naarm (Melbourne) with L Lewis, Lachlan Thompson, Finn Milne, and Jordan Dunster, the tracks were later chopped up in London by L Lewis.

The B side features remixes from local and international artists Space Ghost, Hector Plimmer, Joseph Shabason and Jonah Gabriel plus a bonus digital remix from Alex Albrecht.

Drum grooves left behind on the disk drive of an old SP1200, a rusted spring reverb and crates of dusty records, all boxed up in a distant relative’s workshop. @commandd has uncovered the first tracks in a series of forgotten gems of a distant relative, a craftsman inspired by the raw style of 90s house and techno.

On a mission to keep dancefloors moving, this long-lost relative’s productions find new life, with a hope to travel from city to city, deejays responsible for carrying sounds forged in the fire of an undeniable groove. 

The Vibesmith is the work of an alchemist with the freedom to embrace imperfection and find solace in tradition.

With no concern for passing trends, the Vibesmith went about thankless work at the forge, the fruits of their labour finally available for all to taste.”

Command D presents ‘Fever’, the first in a series of releases under his no muss, no fuss imprint ‘The Vibesmith’. Taking inspiration from Junior Byles’ 50s era joint, also called ‘Fever’, the track is a reinvigoration of an inescapable vibe sure to capture the attention of any willing dance floor.

The smith forges on, with no doubt many more to come.

Japan’s Sakura Tsuruta appears for the first time on Will Hofbauer’s Third Place with the ‘What Are You Drinking?’ EP, landing 26th September 2025.

"The question, "what are you drinking?" for me is a soft invitation - something I find myself asking when the bass is thumping, and I’m feeling a little social. It’s a way to start a conversation, to learn something about the person standing next to you in the crowd, to feel connected in a space where words are usually second to sound. Sakura Tsuruta is a Tokyo-based artist who mixes up dreamy melodies with potent, experimental grooves. Her 2019 debut on Bardo Records broke into Beatport’s Top 100, and since then, she has dropped her acclaimed ‘Made of Air’ EP and two well-received full-lengths on Mule Musiq and all my thoughts. Tsuruta is also an educator who works with international universities and conservatories and an activist who champions gender equality and nurtures young artists globally.
