Who's that guy nerding behind a laptop in a French cafe? It might be https://soundcloud.com/gal-tsadok-hai, working on new beats. Since the Dutch producer moved to Montmartre (Paris), he not only shook up his life but also his modus operandi. While enjoying a cafe-au-lait and ignoring the white noise around him, he worked on his new Perot EP.

A new life, a new sound. So, Tsadok-Hai decided to throw all 4x4 beats overboard. Even on Mangue, a track that starts out as a decent enough dark techno track, only to derail into a breakbeat frenzy towards the end. The other four tracks are equally adventurous and playful, with wildly zigzagging beats, rubbery congo's and rattling drums. Like Squarepusher being locked up with The Gaslamp Killer and Mr. Oizo. A great EP which takes Tsadok-Hai’s sound in exciting new directions.

After a series of releases on HAKT Recordings, Nicolas Jaar’s Other People and a collab with Kasper Bjørke, Abstraxion returns to his own Biologic Records which he co-manages with DC Salas. 

￼Not only is this his first solo EP on the label since a few years, it’s also the second release to celebrate ￼Biologic’s 10th anniversary year. 

Resonance comprises of two original cuts and three remixes. Going from a peak time techno track by Matrixxman to a house rework by Fort Romeau and a disco infused version by Massimiliano Pagliara, the EP not only represents the label’s diverse sound but also Abstraxion’s own productions and ever evolving style. 

As a next step, Abstraxion will release in 2016 his second LP She Thought She Would Last Forever, mixed by Francis Harris (Scissor & Thread, Adultnapper) and on which he already received support from his inspirations/ 
mentors Dan Snaith (Caribou) & John Talabot.

We almost missed this one. So to ensure ‘In Waves’ made waves in the pages of Mixmag, we went back to it – and boy will you be glad you did, too. Lord Of The Isles, aka producer and graphic designer Neil McDonald, has been writing and producing for almost a decade, the enigmatic releases finding homes on key electronic imprints like Permanent Vacation, Phonica and Mule Music. His debut album, released via LA label ESP Institute, is fresh and spectacular. McDonald says an early fascination with Scottish history inspired his moniker, as well as being dragged around the Highlands by his parents as a young child. Those trips clearly made an impact on him, because ‘In Waves’ is laced with beautiful chord progressions and colours as bright as tartan. He seems to be as in touch with nature as he is with percussion and quirky melodies, as demonstrated by the sound of waves washing over pianos on the title track. Its 15 tracks are the epitome of otherworldly electronic sophistication and yes, for the most part they’re as Balearic as a classic DJ Harvey disco re-edit. Certain tracks stick out: the glitchy Balearic bounce of ‘Liobasta’ is an early highlight, as is the smooth cinematic touch of ‘Obar Lìobhaite’. The Âme/Dixon-ish bleep masterclass ‘Weh-In’ doesn’t put a foot wrong over eight scorched minutes, either, while the subtly breathtaking ‘Yanomami’ isn’t far behind. Side A features Protest Song. If music is a way of transporting us to other places, Protest Song takes us to a desolate, scary and loveless environment, a burnt- down, burnt-out place where the flesh of its former inhabitants is smouldering, void of goodwill and kindness in a cloud of toxic and greedy smoke. It’s all Kafka and Orwell and Suffering - the most twisted and eerie track so far in The Golden Ravedays saga. What is undeniably clear is an acute sense of regret and loss - a warning that it could have been avoided, had we only listened to our hearts and protested.

In the same vein on Side B we hear powerful Resistance. Produced after the Paris attacks of 2015 Superpitcher outdid himself with this strong message of Resistance. Where Protest Song paints a picture of under-worldly doom, Resistance’s techno beat and insistent refrain sweeps us to the surface of the muck of hatred and intolerance we’ve politically been dumped in. A voice that seems like a trapped animal is calling out to us. What is it trying to say? Is it crying out for help? Is that animal all of us? Resistance represents hope and encouragement and could be the perfect marching track to any demonstration against negative forces. Much needed in this age of bigotry where it seems like time has leaped backwards to a darker side of history. As for the
dancefloor – Resistance is irresistible!

Since the Nicolas Jaar remix of Kasper ́s cover version of Heaven back in 2009, Kasper Bjørke has always curated his remixes with a steady hand and a strong sense of who is the right producer to transform his music into something else - which not only contributes to his original but also adds a different flavor. Strong acts like Marvin & Guy, Gerd Janson, Mano Le Tough, Michael Mayer, Rebolledo, Superpitcher and many more have all made memorable interpretations of Kasper’s work through these years - and now its time for an impressive and brand new batch of remixes: A double Remix EP, once again with a carefully selected and diverse list of amazing contemporary electronic artists. 
Kasper says: “I reached out to artists that are either friends of mine already or artists that are in my current network through these past many years of touring - I admire them all and their musical skills and I am grateful for each of their contributions to this double remix EP, which I am both very proud of - and that I think interprets all the original tracks on my double EP Nothing Gold Can Stay” in their own unique way. I really think that through remixes you get a chance to rediscover your own music and enjoy it again in a different way - especially as a DJ, which these new version are obviously meant for”.

“Justin Strauss and Max Pask are amazing artists and DJs in their own right, who are now doing music together in the new outfit Each Other (they recently released their debut EP on Soulwax’ label Deewee). I have known Max since my first gigs in New York maybe 15-16 years ago and through his involvement in Throne of Blood Records where I released an EP with Colder a couple of years ago - and 
I became friends with Justin since we started playing B2B gigs together years ago. Justin actually also delivers the spoken word piece on the title track of my EP. When I asked the guys to do the remix of “Du Du Du” (feat. Tomas Høffding from WhoMadeWho) I had a feeling they would re-create it into something more powerful and housey for the dance floors than my own post disco production! And they sure did! Absolutely thrilled to have them on board!”
