Shaken, not stirred, and always sounding best when liberally splashed upside the ravey, Gravy has enjoyed an astronomical rise over the last few years on labels such as theBasement Discos, Step Back Trax and his own Gravy Trax. Fresh from his debut album release 'X To Love', the South African-rooted/Vienna-raised artist makes his debut on Pets with 'Motion 7'.

Bounding across some of the sturdiest pillars in this music, across four tracks Gravy lays down a history lesson of supreme groove proportions. 'Relief' sets the euphoric tone with its emotional bicep-flexing chords, springy breaks and that essential floating-in-space sensation synonymous with the early 90s. It rolls deep in the best company: 'Motion 7' pays homage to house music's sexiest quarters with a strong Chicago jack and a velvet French filtered touch while 'Forever' touches down in Detroit with its iced out synth strings and a relentless bassline.

Finally we're pushed over the edge by 'Pushin'. A bubbling slab of disco house with all the right vocals and orchestration, it's an emotional end-of-night moment-in-waiting. Push the boat out and spread liberally - Gravy is every bit as tasty as his name suggests

A sonic son of Krust, fellow Bristolian Hodge works ‘Constructive Ambiguity’ into a proggy new school breaks monster that carves the original’s metallic bass into sharp new shapes, whilst West Country royalty and Wild Bunch founder Milo Johnson AKA DJ Nature provides wigged-out Martian house by way of New York – which, in one of Krust’s many thematic circles – echoes the Latin-tinged, blunted science of Nu Yorican Soul’s classics ‘Mind Fluid’ and ‘The Nervous Track’.

It’s been one year since Farren Laen’s first output, Attention Renders Your Reality, on his Laen Disc label. Now the New Yorker is back with the second installment on his label and three new tracks, each sweetly touching the base of one’s feelings by combining and transporting latter in their synth-lines. To Will One Thing, the name of LaenDisc002, was writen and produced over the course of 2020 and into 2021, so basically over a time when most clubs and venues were shut down, maybe therefore Farren asks to play the tracks out loud. But let’s face it, the music on this release perfectly works when not played out loud too. However, a good sound-system with enough power makes the tracks unfold it’s full (club) potential and let you enter a new reality. Speaking of, the A1 is called the same and sucks you into its reality - beat by beat, chord by chord, vocal after vocal, bleep by bleep. Reality is one of these tracks that burns its way into one’s mind with each listening - maybe it’s Farren’s ease of putting the before mentioned elements together or the slow and continuous built-up or the delicate synth-line that makes Reality a tune to remember or stay in your record bag for a long time. But whatever it is, fact is that one can enjoy reality better with Farren’s new EP.
