The sweet sixteenth instalment in the Dubplate series sees regular contributors Beatsy Collins and Bopperson deliver two firing, dance floor friendly re-works of a couple of classics from the great man that is Bobby McFerrin. 

Beatsy Collins' re-work of Thinking About Your Body has been knocking around on mp3 for some time now, and has been a mainstay of sets from a small selection of London's finest underground DJs. It's a low slung affair, complete with a frenzy of filters and beats to move your feet. 

On the flip, McFerrin's cover of the Lennon & McCartney favourite, From Me To You, is completely re-imagined by young Bopperson, giving it a foot friendly percussive shakedown, whilst adding some serious, face melting bass.

Originally released in March 2006 and virtually impossible to procure on vinyl ever since, BBE are excited to announce a special ten year anniversary edition of the classic Visioneers album Dirty Old Hip Hop. Brainchild of 4hero and Reinforced Records founder Marc Mac, the Visioneers project first appeared on a series of limited edition 7” vinyl releases. Marc began re-imagining his favourite hip hop beats from the golden era, retaining the feel of those extended, looping grooves whilst also re-introducing the excitement and musicianship of the records from which they were sampled: ‘Dirty Old Hip Hop’ was born. Drawing on the musical talents of Somatik and drummer Luke Parkhouse, both regulars on the 4hero sessions, this largely instrumental album also featured stunning performances from rappers Capitol A and Voice. An artist who was introduced to jazz music by his favourite hip hop beat-makers, ‘Dirty Old Hip Hop’ serves as a loving tribute to both art-forms, weaving the two together until even the most ardent purist will find it hard to define any space between. Dirty Old Hip Hop was shortlisted for Gilles Peterson‘s coveted Worldwide album of the Year award in 2006.

I MIGLIORI PENSIERI di Sando Orrù aka DJ Gruff, Clementino e Gianluca Petrella è il brano introduttivo dell’omonimo progetto discografico corale che coinvolge più di 200 artisti tra musicisti, cantanti, attori rappers e writers, uniti con lo scopo di sostenere Emergency attraverso una raccolta fondi a favore di chi sta operando contro il COVID-19.

“Ci servono i migliori pensieri” è la frase che Gruff e le sue voci ripetono come un mantra, nel tentativo di regalare 7 minuti di ottimismo agli ascoltatori.

In questa prima traccia, il rap di Clementino si alterna a quello di Oyoshe e di Militant A (Assalti Frontali), la cantante Petra Magoni invita ad apprezzare il tempo lento di quest’oggi, mentre il trombonista Gianluca Petrella ne impreziosisce la melodia, cadenzata dalle percussioni del salentino Roberto Chiga (Notte della Taranta). Le voci di Asia Argento, Frankie Hi Energy, Corrado Fortuna, DJ Ralf e altri fuoriclasse del cinema e della musica, che hanno contribuito alla generazione del brano, vengono scratchate dalle mani esperte di Gruff, anche ideatore dell’intera base accompagnatrice.

L’idea nasce da una telefonata intercorsa tra Sandro Orrù e Dario Fichera, perfusionista cardiovascolare dell’azienda ospedaliera dell’Università di Padova, in trincea da giorni, sin dalla primissima diffusione del virus COVID-19.

Fichera invita Gruff a supportare il corpo dei medici e degli infermieri con la sua musica, così come già fece nel 2015, quando l’operatore sanitario e l’artista organizzarono il tour italiano del “Camps Breakerz Crew”, progetto a sostegno della danza, dell’arte e dell’istruzione, che tramite una raccolta fondi mirata aveva l’obiettivo di garantire studi a molti ragazzi profughi di Gaza.

Le parole di Fichera commuovono Gruff, che si muove immediatamente, diffondendo un appello a musicisti, cantanti, attori, rappers e writers.
«Via le barriere, via i conflitti, in questo momento difficile per l’Italia, uniamoci nella musica e insieme, da lontano, ognuno porti il suo messaggio.» DJ Gruff.

In pochi minuti arrivano le registrazioni: chi da cellulare, chi dallo studio, e poi le musiche che sono tante, troppe per un solo brano. Così il progetto si amplia e nasce l’idea di un album, che si comporrà di brani ciascuno in uscita cadenzata, rispondendo alla (non) logica di questo tempo incerto e sospeso.

"LETTERA DI UN'INFERMIERA ITALIANA"
Lettera di Michela Venturi, infermiera nel reparto Covid dell’ospedale di Senigallia, al Presidente del Consiglio Giuseppe Conte.

In questa seconda traccia DJ Gruff ha ideato, insieme al Maestro Antonio Tarantino, una musica sulla lettera di Michela Venturi, infermiera nel reparto Covid dell’ospedale di Senigallia, diretta al Presidente del Consiglio Giuseppe Conte. 
Nella lettera aperta che ha fatto il giro del web, l’infermiera si sfogava descrivendo le sensazioni atroci del lavoro in prima linea durante l’emergenza da COVID 19: emergono la paura, la fatica e le enormi difficoltà.
Le parole di Michela hanno fatto il giro d’Italia e sono state pubblicate sulle testate dove DJ Gruff le ha lette, le ha immaginate recitate da attori professionisti e poi inserite nel discorso musicale. 
Asia Argento, già voce nella prima traccia del disco, per interpretare il discorso di Michela sulle note della canzone, ha coinvolto i cinque attori Aurora Peres, Emilia Verginelli, Tommaso Ragno, Barbara Ronchi, Valeria Almerighi. 
Le voci sono state enfatizzate dalla sofisticata manipolazione in perfetto stile Gruff, che le alterna e moltiplica scratchandole nei punti più incisivi.
La seconda parte della traccia è composta da Gruff con la formazione salentina che da anni lo accompagna sui palchi: Antonio Tarantino al pianoforte, Diego Martino alla batteria e Francesco Vaglio alla chitarra. 
Il tema viene disturbato dalla voce di alcuni personaggi del mondo della politica che negavano l’epidemia e infine conclude con il commento tanto crudo quanto vero di Gino Strada, medico, attivista, fondatore, assieme alla moglie Teresa Sarti, dell’ONG italiana Emergency (scelta per la raccolta fondi).
