Interesting how so many smart and caring people are not being heard. Many realize that the collapse of human civilization has already started. Many others don’t realize that the collapse of human civilization has started because they don’t realize or understand that this dire and fatal situation for our species is a process, not an event. Well done Dahr!

Interesting how even Dahr uses extended dates like the year 2050 or 2100 when limiting global warming to an acceptable temperature in the near-term (within 10 years) is impossible due to the transformative systemic change requirements needed to be integrated with sustainable development. In 2019, the current national pledges worldwide on mitigation and adaptation are not enough to make any significant difference in dealing with global warming and the escalating abrupt climate changes that are rapidly unfolding and ravishing our world today.

Major corporations and first world economies are just trying to extend the coverup financially in order to avoid the the fact that every nation and major corporation in the world (without exception) would need to enhance their public, financial, institutional and innovational capabilities by at least an order of magnitude in order to scale-up their efforts to realistically deal with the dire and abrupt climate changes that are now unfolding. We the people of Earth are beyond the point of no return. There is no global warming solution, only mitigation that may possibly slow down the inevitable extinction of our species.

No one will be immune from the physical or mental effects of climate change. Some of the key impacts of climate change on mental health can include: trauma, shock, stress, anxiety, depression, complicated grief, severe reactions, strains on social relationships, substance abuse, mental health emergencies, sense of loss, hopelessness, fatalism, resignation, loss of autonomy and sense of control, loss of personal and occupational identity.

Although climate change is real and can be frightening, remaining in a state of heightened distress is not helpful for you or for anyone else. Be optimistic about the future. Remind yourself there is a lot you can personally do. Change your own behaviour. Become more informed about working with others in your community to make things safer for everyone. Do things in easy stages. Identify things that might get in the way of doing things differently. Look after yourself. Invite others to change. Talk with others about local environmental problems. Present clear but not overwhelming information. Talk about changes that you are making in your own life. Share your difficulties and rewards. Be assertive, not aggressive. Congratulate people for being environmentally concerned. Be an example on how you want others to act and respond to the environment.

The study, published in the journal Science, created a huge dataset based on almost 40,000 farms in 119 countries and covering 40 food products that represent 90% of all that is eaten. It assessed the full impact of these foods, from farm to fork, on land use, climate change emissions, freshwater use and water pollution (eutrophication) and air pollution (acidification).  “A vegan diet is probably the single biggest way to reduce your impact on planet Earth, not just greenhouse gases, but global acidification, eutrophication, land use and water use,” said Joseph Poore, at the University of Oxford, UK, who led the research. “It is far bigger than cutting down on your flights or buying an electric car,” he said, as these only cut greenhouse gas emissions.

Released on Linear Obsessional's free download label, my album The Terminal Beach was first conceived in the early 80's.  It is a personal story as much as an attempt to capture JG Ballard's short story.  

A man maroons himself upon a former nuclear test atoll in the Pacific.  The small landscape is festooned with concrete structures.  Lakes, bunkers and two thousand blocks.  Wrecked bombers and more structures than even Ballard gets time to write about.  A story written in the shadow of the cold war, it perfectly captured who and what I was in my early 20's.
