Kyle Hall’s ‘Cosmic Touch’ opens his EP of the same name with masterful machine drum funk. Anything he touches turns into interplanetary gold, proven by the hypnotic and detailed grooves present across the release and his output to date. In ‘Cosmic Touch’, hazy resonant synths playfully bounce off layers of infectious rhythm, entrancing the listener before ‘Cobalt’ rides in with galactic pads and rolling toms, a swirly acid-line unfolding slowly in the second half. Closing out this next entry on the Spanish Apnea imprint, ‘Phantom’ chugs along a mystifying, ghastly synth line while typewriter-like hats hammer onto its steady kickdrum, chirpy sequences carefully filling the spaces between. 

Detroit artist Kyle Hall blends classic motor city techno with house influences, his personal take on the genres characterised by a warm, soulful sound and intricate rhythmic patterns in turn drawing from jazz, funk, and hip-hop. His music has landed on labels like Hyperdub, his own Wild Oats & Forget The Clock, and now, he follows up his collaborative ‘Crown’ LP with Steven Julien on Apron Records with a three-tracker on Apnea, a label which recently returned to the fold with quality releases from the likes of Gerald Donald’s Gedankenexperiment and E.R.P.

Munich-based record label CHILDHOOD (@muallem) line up their next 12-inch courtesy of Berlin-based producer and Counterchange label boss Ed Davenport aka @counterchange-inland, marking the British producers first release under his birth name since 2017. Our pick is 'Suntazia' thanks to Ed's nifty use of hyper-looped vocals, orchestral strings and roughneck acid breaks.

Jonny Sum (@jonny-sum) brings his brand of emotive driven dance music to HOMAGE with a masterclass in heartstring-tugging atmospherics and nuanced melodic downpours - merging together his shared experience from performing in NYC and LA.

Having recently remixed for Barker & Baumecker, Gallegos shares his unique synth writing and masterful grooves on ‘Haunted’ in a playful flip that fuses acidic melodies with skippy rhythms and assured sound design.

There’s a time for everything. To fill in another piece of the puzzle. To make the matrix make sense. Trying not to hide it, trying not to fight it. Just trying to recognize it and keep on going.

This four-tracker, the first release on Sansibar’s 'Sin Sistema' imprint, borrows the best elements of formulas we love, and for a good reason.

‘We Rise’ a spiraling, mesmerizing infusion of yearning pads and a twisting acidic wormhole that leaves no room for doubt: this is Sans on form, and we have lift-off.

‘Elastic’ continues the lysergic theme, turning the dials towards a more sinister entity. Growing, realizing one’s power, and using it.

And on to the B-side, joining forces with Denzel, becoming ‘Sonic Minds’, getting into Techy territory. This is strictly festival business. Tried and tested throughout summer ’23 to devastating effect. Call an ambulance.

The final track ‘2k’ ups the Tech ante and sprinkles some murky UK Garage dust on top: skippy drums, a bouncy bass section, and dubby atmospheric

Another year, another wizard from the Naarm sound world emerges from the underground with his debut release on Butter Sessions Records. This time, psychedelic specialist Suki has a four-track EP of extra-terrestrial transmissions titled ‘Elevate’. With releases on Shall Not Fade, Holding Hands, Dansu Discs and many other premium labels, Suki’s productions have been sending ravers into transcendental realms and sweaty frenzies on dancefloors all over the globe, and this latest offering is no exception. The four tracks span a range of tempos, moods and energy levels, all with an underlying psychedelic spirit and tongue-in-cheek attitude that is sure to tickle the right side of the brain. It’s pumping, progressive and pure ecstasy for the people!
