A mutual friend of Peaches and myself, the awesome berlin band @HYENAZ, have made a special edit of my track GEGEN. Layered on top is punk angry vocals, with the unnerving message about how freedom of movement is not granted for everyone. Why is European humans more important than non-European? Only last week my remix for Peaches was streamed, “Feel free” being the key message, a struggle queer folk have to really fight within for, because outside society denies so much to us. But this message in the GEGEN edit is not about us, these punk angry vocals is a message of solidarity with the refugees and asylum seekers, who need our support and kindness, who are suffering incredible burden and loss. I am humbled that HYENAZ took the initiative to make this edit.

This edit is on sale. As a small gesture, every sale Hyenaz and I will personally double and the whole amount will go to the Berlin Refugee Movement, an organisation in Berlin who tirelessly provide help to refugees and fight for their rights. They are in constant need of resources and money to pay lawyers fees, run education tours, or provide food and activities for mental health relief.

I have freedom of movement, I can go in and out of countries. Since moving to Berlin I have been lucky enough to travel the world, meeting many techno communities and queer communities who share a sense of care and responsibility for each other.

I’m not expecting anything big with this, simply being part of the dialogue for empathy, however your support here and now would be much appreciated. Please buy the edit, even if you never liked Gegen. Buy it five times!

Sadly Europe has been closing its borders especially since introducing Frontex, making agreements, supplying arms that are causing unnecessary cruelty and murder to innocent people. As refugees fleeing for their lives it is shocking we are creating similar conditions and hateful rhetoric as what happened in 1930s pre-WWII for political gain.

My personal hope is in our efforts to diminish the climate of hate with an overwhelming climate of empathy. This is not do-gooder blah blah, this is life and death.

"So many assumptions are made about why people choose to move, who has the right to move, and who does not, who can simply travel on a whim and who must risk everything to leave their lands for others. Our sense of time and space is increasingly unbounded, as access to knowledge, art and the public sphere shared through electronically mediated communication. Yet so many still have to risk death or internment to cross national borders physically, with access to migration arbitrarily determined by pieces of paper distributed along class and racial lines.

We were inspired by Paula's powerful track Gegen, whose title refers to the German word for “against” and already expresses the dichotomous terms in which media and political discourses discuss migration: Are you for or against migration? How do “we” oppose the “others” who are against “our” way of life. The urgency of its siren-like lead synth speaks to the militarised policing of national borders and the desperation that pushes people to risk everything in order to exercise the human right to move freely.

We wish to thank Bart Kuzniak at Studio 333 with whom we recorded the vocals and who later mastered the finished track. Out now on Reveler Records Berlin. "

We are proud to premiere the next release from HOUSEKEEPING founding member Jacobi (@ocotillo-568336568), the scintillating "Mugabe Out" EP released on 8 June. 

"Mugabe Out" is an exhilarating opener with frenetic drumming, combined with twisted, atmospheric tribal chanting that keepings building to an energetic finale. 

In Jacobi’s own words: "The EP was inspired by my deep love for African rhythm. The name of the EP came as I wrote the tracks which was the week many of my Zimbabwean friends were celebrating the dictator Mugabe stepping down and the opportunity that lay ahead for the country. The lead track is inspired by my love of trance driving baselines slowed down to a tech house bpm."

This is an exciting time for HOUSEKEEPING who have embarked on their weekly residency at Black Coffee Saturdays at Hï Ibiza until the 6th of October. The label will playing weekly at Room 2 every Saturday  alongside such artists as AudioFly, Serge Devant, Hector, SecondCity, Eli & Fur, and Matthias Meyer, and many others.

Boasting an equally impressive back catalogue, Butch has contributed tracks and remixes to imprints such as Rekids, Cocoon, Rebirth, Saved Records, Defected, and Diynamic.

Both of the artists are most commonly known for their tech house sound that's rich in percussive textures and their combined output on this release has a stripped back tribal sound with quirky synth lines.

Track one “Cutso” blends congas and other percussive textures with trippy effects processing and rubbery synths. With a raw energy this dance floor focused groove is sure to set the club alight and be a cross over track for DJ’s playing a variety of styles.

The second track “In The Womb" has a deeper sound with a prominent kick drum and an ambient atmosphere brought to life with a sensual female vocal. Stripped back and uplifting, the second half has an extended outro full of moody suspense.

Kolors is not your average compilation; the project explores the individual visual perception of color and how that compares to the unique auditory experience of music.

The 15 contributing artists have all chosen a color to define the essence of their track. The selected colors expand the traditional spectrum with on-point specifics like ‘Matt Silver,’ ‘Lunar White’ and ‘Mint Green’. Regardless how many adjectives used, everyone will see these colors differently, and that is exactly the point! The experience of colors, like music, is subjective.

The project’s rich concept adds layered depth and gives listeners an expanded auditory experience. The colors are well considered and one hears the artistic intention behind the labeling.

In a profoundly personal, artistic revelation artists also provided the reasoning behind their selection, evoking instant imagery and placing listeners in the mind of the musician. Of their track, ‘Lunar White’, John Charnis & Jimmy Maheras said, “When we wrote the song the melodies reminded us of the moments in a dark dance floor where people's faces were illuminated, whether by strobe lights and lasers, or the glow of the moon in an outdoor party.” That visual association becomes abundantly clear when one listens to the corresponding music. On ‘Fuchsia’ Dance Spirit say, “’Fuchsia’ is the color of universal harmony and emotional balance and helps to create harmony and balance in every aspect of life. That is what we are trying to attain through the message of this song, and our music in general.”

The album takes listeners on an oculauditory journey through time and space; from Julien Chaptal’s lush and peaceful ‘Orange’ to Doomwork’s moody and introspective ‘Midnight Blue’, the LP tells a story. Kolors features seasoned Supernature artists like Den Ishu (who also releases under Desolat and Noir), Carlos Sanchez (a young gun, blazing the industry by storm, receiving praise from industry veterans like Danny Tanaglia and Richie Hawtin) and Audiofly to name a few- but true to their standard the label focuses on emerging talent. Affirming the strength of the label’s talent pool, even the new family members deliver auditory joy in epic proportions.

New to the imprint, Balcazar & Sordo’s “Blue”, is pure tantric! The track demonstrates beautiful restraint, true energy control, feeding one deep, groovy bass line after another in perfect cadence. On the duo Maceo Plex has been quoted saying, ‘These guys are very close to writing a big hit, I can tell”. Well if they haven’t already this is probably the one. Expect to hear it across dance floors this summer.

This album invites you to experience music differently from everybody else, on your own personal terms, based on your own vision. Art is subjective, what you see may not be what I see, and that is the beauty of it. So sit back, and give it a listen... or 10, stroke your chin and ponder deeply. Unlike most dance albums, or label for that matter, Supernature and Kolors wants you to do more than dance, they want you to think and feel and groove - they want you to experience music on a whole new level.

Davide is not available for comment. He’s got to catch a flight; he’s rushing to the studio; the stage manager is frantically hurrying him into the booth; he’s meeting to discuss plans for his labels…or any of the other myriad reasons why Davide feels like he hasn’t slept, eaten or stopped running for what seems like his whole life.

Born in Siena, raised in Naples, it took a trip to London for Davide to finally discover electronic music. Wooed by the mood and sound of the British scene, he returned to Naples flush with energy, excitement and a knowing that this new calling would consume him. 

Davide immersed himself in this world in every conceivable way. In 1999 he began studying at the Naples’ school of sound engineering, tinkering with his first productions, promoting techno events, and finally performing. His first releases on Primate Records, Design Music andConform were a cadence of his arrival and showcased the young artist’s steadfast style.

Having honed his craft at home, in 2004 Davide left Naples for Barcelona unwavering in his resolve. Now, while touring around the continent, he began to release in earnest what would become a massive body of work, and at a dizzying pace. His productions have graced the catalogs of some of the finest labels including Ovum, Sci+Tec, Morris Audio, Resopal Schallware, Supernature, CMYK, Adagio, Viva, Nervous, Saved, Shake, Rillis; the list goes on… 

Added to that, you have to take into account the labels which Davide founded and still curatestoday – Sketch, Minisketch, Vir, 500, Titbit and Hideout. 2012 sees the start of Davide’s latest innovative project. This and That Lab will be a unique fusion of label and think tank combining music, art and culture used as a platform for Davide and other like minded artists to develop creative projects in music, visual art, design, fashion and writing.

In addition to his genre-defining works, Davide continues to inspire and ignite dancefloors worldwide. Whether it be at Circoloco, where he has been a resident since 2007, Womb, Berghain, D.Edge, or any other marquee venue, Davide plays with an unequalled funk and excitement. His signature sets, revered by the masses and peers alike, do a double duty in guarding our much-loved traditions while constantly pushing them forward.

The realm of possibilities for one of electronic music’s leading lights is endless. Unfortunately, the minutes in the day are not. Davide’s answer is simple – do what you love and make no compromises.
