At the end of 2023 and the start of 2024, I was working on some new songs for another album. However, I found myself feeling what I would call "musically depressed" for some reason. I wasn't sure why, but I started to dislike what I was making, and felt like maybe I had approached making a new album in a way that was counterproductive. I felt like maybe I was rushing it, a bit, as I was recording instrumentals before I had written lyrics to go with them, and then felt like I wished the instrumentals were different when I tried to write lyrics for them, but not wanting to re-record everything. I felt like I needed a break, so I decided to stop working on that album for a while, until I felt I could go back with a fresh perspective, and not feel so attached to the instrumentals I had recorded.

That's where this EP comes in. The ukulele was the first instrument I ever learned, in about 2015, I believe. We had one around the house, it belonged to my sister, but she never played it. I started playing it, half ironically, but came to love learning songs. I don't think I would be the guitarist and musician I am today if I didn't pick up the uke, and so it only makes sense that I come full circle and write some songs on it. These five original tracks, and one reimagining, were very fun and satisfying to make and put together. I wanted a fresh start musically, and writing and recording with my sister's old uke is how I got one.

I didn't really see playing the uke leading me here, with a small batch of songs I'm really proud to share. I feared that maybe it would come off as a bit gimmicky, or even that it might be culturally insensitive, to some degree. At the end of the day, though, I really believe in these songs I've made, and I believe that mixing/production-wise, it's my best work to date. I'm a much more confident musician, and I hope you can enjoy listening to what I've made as much as I enjoyed making it.

A song that I'll rework in the future.  Simple acoustic guitar and voice, mulling over how one day you'll find peace and that the person you were with won't need you any more.
