Retreat Theme Description:
 In the teaching of St. Thomas Aquinas, all creation proceeds from God and returns to him. With the complication of sin, that return is complicated. In Jesus Christ and through the sacraments, God orchestrates the redemption of sinful man by gradually introducing him into the life of divine communion. And, in that movement, man is engaged not merely as a passive recipient, but also as an agent—as a protagonist.

Given this understanding, questions of morality cannot simply be boiled down to do’s and don’ts. For St. Thomas, the moral life is first about God and then about the way we are called to return to Him. This is what we mean by “the good life.”

The first calls of the Herring Gulls in early morning a little before sunrise on the small Luoteen Rayhat Reef. Nothing to cut, nothing to add, love it or hate it ;-

This is from an over-night recording on the reef. Very quiet one hour before sunrise, otherwise a distant ship and some early fishing boats. The gulls will leave the reefs within one or two weeks and arrive again in March.

Vandaag heb ik een meditatie voor je die een geweldig gevoel oproept in je lichaam en die transformatie mogelijk maakt in de energie die je voelt in je lichaam én die je uitstraalt. We gaan experimenteren met verlangen. Maar niet zomaar een verlangen, nee we gaan kijken wat er gebeurt als je een donker verlangen toelaat in je lichaam. Ik bedoel hiermee een verlangen dat je misschien niet netjes, realistisch of goed vindt van jezelf. Juist deze onderdrukte of genegeerde verlangens kunnen onze levensenergie blokkeren. Doe deze meditatie en merk hoeveel leven en energie er vrij komt in jezelf als je jezelf toestaat deze verlangens ook alle ruimte en aandacht te geven.

Speaker bio:
Dr. James Madden is Professor of Philosophy at Benedictine College. He lives in Atchison, Kansas with his wife (Jennifer) and their six children. He is originally from Wisconsin, where he received a B.A. from St. Norbert College, and did his graduate work at Kent State (MA, 1998) and Purdue (Ph.D., 2002). He was awarded the Benedictine College Distinguished Educator of the Year Award in 2006. Prof. Madden's long term research interests are modern philosophy, philosophy of religion, and philosophy of mind.
