The Icelandic electronic musician is a collective animal. He tends to gather in groups. In 1995 with the founding of the label Thule Records the first official herding was confirmed. Icelandic electronic music artists were united under one flag. Though, this particular label was not the first of its kind, they did have a certain agenda of reaching out toward foreign markets – thing rarely been done before in Iceland. The owners of the label bought themselves a cheap and barely functional car outside of London and drove around the city distributing their first release personally – while having to stop the car every 20 minutes to pour water over the engine to prevent it from overheating. That first release became a success and showed that electronic music made in Iceland had much to offer to the European market.

Thule Records was a gateway to Europe for many Icelandic artists. A platform of expression for young artists. After almost seven years of activity and about 70 releases the label went on permanent hiatus. It was a starting point for many of Icelands most renowned electronic musicians and is considered to be a pioneer in the field of dub-influenced techno music.

Godfather of Icelandic Techno

For more than a decade, Thor has been one of the leading figures in the Icelandic techno scene – often dubbed as the „Godfather of Icelandic Techno“. The founder of the legendary Thule Records is well recognized for his finely crated deep minimal techno music. Beside releasing on his own output, his working is being released on the Berlin based Sushitech Records. 


The passion for electro and techno started in the early nineties – then inspired by the fast growing German electronic music scene. Soon the releases started pouring out on high-profile labels such as Harthouse and Elektrolux. Throughout the years, Thor has had steady amount of releases and remixes coming out and his music has been heavily featured on various compilations worldwide.

Thor has had numerous successful collaborations with artists such as Goldie, Pascal F.E.O.S., Tim Taylor, Exos, Yagya and the pop superstar Björk. In addition, Thor has remixed artists such as Bob Marley, Anthony Rother, Sigur Rós, Steve O'Sullivan, Exos, Eddie Matos (Mateo & Matos), Gus Gus and many more.

Recently his work has been released at the German label Connaisseur Recordings in a series called "Iceland Lost Tracks" and on Matt 'Radio Slave' Edwards new label The Double R, alongside The New York based label Strobelight Network, Crystal Structures Records And Thule Records
