Three Piece Molten Mind Groove from Perth, Australia

INJURED NINJA are an Australian avant-garde experimental rock group that 
formed in Perth, Western Australia in 2007. Its members are Steven Aaron 
Hughes, Dominic Pearce, Jake Steele and Matthew Bairstow. 

After two very well received EP’s in; “Is it right?” (2014), & “Spirit Down” (2015) the band took time to regroup in 2016. Singer Haydn became a father, whilst Trevor, Dan, and Cain took time out to travel and explore the world. As life pulled the band members in different directions rushes of creativity would consistently remind the four piece that music making is non-negotiable.

A Lightbulb Mind is the first of these rushes to reach completion, with much more to follow over the next 18 months. The track touches on several themes but primarily it discusses the methamphetamine addiction and related psychosis of a close family member of singer Haydn Mansell. A much more honest and organic offering than what has come before, A Lightbulb Mind is a driving, swirling, and cinematic slice of dream rock.

The band has had considerable success in achieving national airplay for their past 7 singles , widespread internet acclaim via top taste making blogs, and an ever expanding live reputation which has seen the band play countless festival stages both at home and abroad. The duo band that has been performing and breaking stages all across Perth, Command A Panda has certainly gone far over the 18 months since they first put their panda heads together. With lots of guitar rhythm sections and smashing cymbals on every beat, Matt and Tim have engraved their indistinguishable hard rock blues into the minds and bleeding ear drums of the people of Perth.  After a decade of extraordinary musical history together in various bands, April saw the departure of Tim Hosken from Matt's side to, what would seem the other side of the world in a place called Sydney.  

With half the band gone, Command A Panda was struck with a major shift in dynamics that would be as subtlety of a brick through a windshield. What better to fuel creativity than the open road of unpredictability after all, the strongest moments happen when exploring new territory? To pick up the drumsticks was Adam Moore, previous from rock band Shelby and the Neighbours, smashing the skins is nothing new to him. As far as meeting all the requirements of being a panda, Adam has checked them all. Tattoos, check, beard, check, an outlandish disregard to following any normal genre of music, check.  

A new panda means a below zero degrees fresh approach to sound, an impressive feat for any band. Although the small explosions of fuzz-tone guitar, raw cheeky vocals and avalanche of belting drums will still be present, it is unknown what exactly will come from these two lads working together. What provides most of the excitement about this new development is showing how invested these guys actually are in the music with their first meeting revolving around new albums, new country tours and new music clips. Their ecstatic banter of the future lead to a bubbling over of the very structure of their creative process to a whole new level. The idea of the panda culture was born by wrenching the core values of these lads to the surface and bringing it out in songs, an endeavour from a band going so deep into their own heads that they lose track of where the exit doors are located.  

Command A Panda has emerged as one of the most popular band making music that sounds like older music without getting all ZZ top about it. We can only assume that their future work will be as distinctive and arguably their best, tailored for people outside the norm and with an appetite for life's hilarious ironies and a dedication to chewing through every one of them.

LUCY PEACH
The “wonderfully engaging and tremendously gifted performer” (AU Review) Lucy Peach has once again returned to the studio. The new single new Be So Good, features the organic, acoustic instrumentation that first made her so beloved by Perth audiences- the perfect accompaniment to her “pitch-perfect voice” (The Music) and disarmingly earnest songwriting.

Released in the Spring of 2011, Peach’s debut EP Wax and Wane was welcomed to much acclaim and anticipation. Recorded by Malcolm Clark (Sleepy Jackson) at Yo Yo Studios, the release saw the artist added to coveted Perth lineups including Beaufort Street Festival (2012)  and Hidden Treasures (2013). A captured live performance of her song Golden Days from a Sofar Sounds event in 2013 has stacked up an impressive 40 000 views and adoring remarks through the global platform, confirming this local darling as a world class act to be reckoned with.

Soaring wherever the wind takes her, Lucy has toured internationally to her Father’s home ground in New Zealand, and has recently returned from supporting the inimitable Mama Kin on the Irish leg of her September 2015 tour. Her songwriting and live presence has won the approval of fellow musicians and industry, supporting the eclectic likes of Tim Finn, Geoffrey Gurrumul Yunupingu, Abbe May, Tim Rogers and Dave Graney in the last few years.

Recorded by Joel Quartermain at Wasteland Studios, the new Single Be So Good saw Lucy Peach accompanied by Lee Jones (The Sun Orchestra, Ruby Boots, Eskimo Joe, Sleepy Jackson, Spencer Tracy) on pedal steel, piano and is described as a talisman in the studio by Peach. The release boasts a music video to match, filmed by the inspiration behind the song itself, Richard Berney. The video was captured throughout a year of Lucy singing the song to him across Australia and New Zealand - and incidentally culminated in an off-camera marriage proposal. A true sentiment to the honest and heartwarming songwriting she is known and loved for, Lucy Peach is set to release a follow-up EP to the new track later in Summer.

Unmistakable on sight by their frontman's interstellar ginger afro, songsmiths Timothy Nelson & The Infidels – last heard from with the anthemic 2013 hits Born In The '90s and Mary Lou – have delivered their masterwork: album number two, Terror Terror, Hide It Hide It. A bold and fully-developed artistic statement, Terror Terror, Hide It Hide It marks an evolutionary step forward for the band, who have worked in deeper collaboration than ever to create their best and most varied songs to date, captured beautifully by producer Joel Quartermain.

As indicated by the vast musical distance travelled by Timothy Nelson & The Infidels since their 2011 debut album I Know This Now, the band aren't genre writers. They want to explore. To dabble. So there are very few limits on where their songs can go, in the broad spectrum of pop music. Terror Terror, Hide It Hide It covers so much ground as it unfolds... from straight up radio anthems (Calling Out To You, Inside My Head, Mary Lou) to the haunting and minimalist (Do U Need It, Rush) and from Manchester (All The People) to the Mississippi (Cocoa Jackson), the band's imagination has run rampant. The magic at the heart of every song: their love of / knack for earworms. An innate ability to write a hook.

Instrumentally beautiful and richly complex, Terror Terror, Hide It Hide It also boasts The Infidels' best musicianship to date. A who's who of Perth music's vanguard, The Infidels is an impressive lineup of multi-instrumentalists able to manoeuvre into an almost endless variety of ensembles of strings, keys, vocals and percussion. This level of sheer capability and collaboration between Nelson, the band and Joel Quartermain (whose decade-long songwriting accomplishments in Eskimo Joe need little explaining) has allowed the ensemble to strive for loftier heights than ever before, resulting in an album that simply speaks for itself.

Terror Terror, Hide It Hide It shows just how rapid and exponential the musical growth of Timothy Nelson & The Infidels has been. Just a few years ago they were winning Western Australia's highest music awards, nominated as a folk band. Now, without missing a step, Timothy Nelson & The Infidels have become almost indefinably musically vast; capable of bringing to life any of the wondrous music that pops into their imagination. 

Spent a a few hours the other day tracking these 3 demos in my lounge. Been writing songs on and off for a few years but never been able to do anything with them, mainly due to being already too busy playing drums in other bands and laziness. If I get any interest I might finally decide to do something semi serious. Let me know your thoughts..
