After absolutely smashing his artist takeover for our Edit Room series, as well as the From GAB With Love artwork, the multi-talented Will Weaver steps up for GAB MIX 033 under his new alias, Perla. 

There’s no doubt that Will’s experimental yet carefully considered artistic process carries over to his mixing. In the first half hour, Perla journeys through a range of percussive and leftfield soundscapes. Pushing the tempo through the latter 30 mins, Will explores some serious electro weapons as well as some atmospheric breakbeats. Rounding his guest mix off with an ambient intro and outro, Perla delivers the goods for GAB MIX 033. We can’t wait to see how Perla progresses over the next year and look forward to sharing some more of Will’s designs with you all very soon!

London-based selector ohmydais has been on our radar for a while, with her meticulous 160+bpm excursions that rip all dancefloors into shreds of energy. This is why we are so excited to have the young DJ comes through for the 26th instalment of our mix series with an hour of outstanding track selection and seamless blends. With a no rules agenda to genre restrictions, she comes through with a high-intensity mix that holds subtle glimpses of melodic lightness.

This is a home-recording of an impromptu set of records i’ve been playing in the club for the past year. Disclaimer: Do not listen to this if you are planning on going to bed early! I am taking you on a journey through some original sound-designs of rave-culture, some revival-stuff going through the bpm. This is perfect for a below 100 pax homeparty and you will barely be able to sit still. Thanks to my friends Farr for the mastering and Andrea Ida for the artwork.

Nectar is a celebration of diversity in music. It recognises that without the influence of different backgrounds, experiences and perspectives, music wouldn’t be what it is today. We’ve invited some of our favourite artists who are invested in promoting inclusivity to share an unexpected side of their music taste. Because ultimately, all music, being an individual expression of self, holds equal validity.

"This mix captures my love for a wide and increasingly undefinable variety of sounds that fall under the umbrella of drum and bass.
D&B has soundtracked some of my happiest memories; from my first experiences of being at a rave, sneaking into Herbal with our passport photocopies, to Jungle Jams in Leeds and nights at Rupture more recently. Now as I make steps into production I find myself leaning towards 170 bpm. 

I realised after recording this mix that there are no womxn producers featured. Moving forward, this will be front of mind always, not only as this is one means to work towards a healthier social balance across the music scene, but because the best outcomes are reached when diversity of input is respected. Whilst it's undeniable that there are a small number of womxn producers out there who are making music infused with the old school jungle flavours I love - huge respect to Mantra, Yorobi, Sweetpea, Djinn, Decibella, Charla Green & Fauzia - I understand if you look hard enough for great music from underrepresented talent, it can be found. This week on the Pick ’N’ Mix series Em Cee Kay presents a fluid mix that reflects the murky, intimate club nights he has been involved in as part of the Scottish group Wax Collective. Gliding through seamless blends of dubstep, downtempo and left-field techno, Em Cee Kay has curated an intelligent and stylish mix that provides periods of intense energy as well as cathartic spells of soothing calmness. This ones not to be slept on and will be best appreciated once the sun goes down with a fatty speaker system.

Pick 'n' Mix #13: Em Cee Kay

For GAB MIX 022 we are extremely excited to present a local legend who needs no introduction. As a DJ, Producer, Bassist for the incredible Mamilah and 1/4 of the infamous Stretchy Dance Supply, there is no doubt that Sourpuss has made a name for himself in Leeds and further afield. Renowned for his intergalactic junglism as heard in mixes for Sable Radio and in his releases on Bristol’s Banoffee Pies Records, Sourpuss slows things down for your Sunday-afternoon listening session. As fostered through his recent residency on Refuge Worldwide, Sourpuss provides slow mo dancehall and techno thought through a range of glitchy, ambient and hypnotic sound worlds in his guest mix for GAB. We can’t wait to see what Sourpuss brings throughout the rest of 2021.
