zikzak mix 9 - Ambient Techno 1991 - 1996 (5 hours)

Samantha ‘theories’ Millows is a Bogota/Colombia-born Artist working in the field of graphic design, video (installations), music, and so much more. She moved to Berlin a couple of years ago where she lives with her partner Valentin Wedde. Both are part of a creative new-skool-multi-dynamic-artist-movement balancing between galleries, raves, happenings, and institutions. 

She is a dedicated music enthusiast and she has been digging and collecting music intensively for the last 10 years of her life. theories really knows what she wants and what she likes, but also what she doesn't like. Still, she stays open-minded with an ongoing possibility of persuasion, always ready for discussion and hungry to learn and explore.

Her universe is definitely rooted in US and UK electro(nica) spiced up by (break)beats of all kinds. This mix reflects her mood and taste, groove and space. 

We connected through fellow electronica colombiana, Adi, 5 years ago in the capital of the country. Since then, Samantha aka theories became involved in the graphic design of “For Playful Manners”, the label Adi and myself run.

"Machines, Dreams and Rhythm is a podcast to explore music from a fantasy point of view. A homage to the machines and the history of electronic music, and the thoughts and feelings we get as a result. This doesn't mean I will present music only from the past but also new sounds that evoke the feeling of travel in time and being shrouded by sound. Is very difficult to explain this criteria but a way to put it is to say that is linked to technology, future, IDM, experimental/avantgarde, deep and space sound, and research of renowned figures or movements in the history of music.

Today's show in @threadsradio is entitled: 'A Journey through Japanese Sounds Pt. 1'.

Electronic music wouldn't be what it is today without the innovations of Japan after the Second World War. From anime to music electronics, Japan revolutionised the world and the infinite possibilities of imagination.

Music is a vast world, and I couldnt play a lot of the music I wanted in just 1 hour but this is just the first of an upcoming series of music exploration in Japan and around the world.

I tried to not talk so much in the show so you can enjoy the music and make the research by yourself since it's a very fun thing to do."

As we delve into the depths of these machine-induced reveries, we find ourselves pondering the very essence of their existence and the uncanny parallels to our own human experience. A sonic journey into the mysterious realm of connected circuits and electronic dreams.

In this inaugural dream, we navigate through the various phases of REM, traversing landscapes of ambient IDM, the hypnotic echoes of acid, and the intricate tapestry of modular synth compositions. These sonic landscapes serve as the backdrop to the machine's nocturnal musings, offering glimpses into a world where artificial intelligence contemplates its own existence.

 The dreams of the machines, veiled in the ethereal sounds of synthesisers, beckon us to explore the intricate tapestry of our shared reality. Are we mere observers, or do we play a role in the dreamscape of the circuits? In a dystopian future, machines ooze with acid slime, their rhythmic pulses a stark contrast to the decaying city around them. The signature squelch blends with the gurgling, corrosive liquids seeping from their circuits, creating a symphony of decay. These acid machines, like digital alchemists, transform the toxic sludge into sound, crafting eerie melodies and distorted beats. Acid rain, spawned from the machines' emissions, drums a relentless rhythm on crumbling rooftops. Amidst this synthetic chaos, humanity's remnants dance, lost in the hypnotic embrace of an acid-soaked reality.

"It could be brainwashing electronica, panoramic electro or uncanny abstract breaks, theories presents music that exists beyond the boundaries of simple classification forming a totally cerebrally satisfying rich sound.

What I had in mind was to dance in between a bassey tripy sound and clicks and cuts, which ended up being a set of rare, spooky abstract electro and broken rhythms, with intelligent music features...  I think is one of my favorite sets until now. "
