"Celebrating otherness, E B U casts a universe of her own both sonically and visually. Defying any one genre, she refers to her distinct sound as 'Swamp Pop'. Unnatural sounds and pitches exhale in melodic chants, ominous basslines resound and eerie loops fixate in this macabre ensemble. You are captive in her world. Moments of haunting clarity keep you wondering where she will take you next whilst strange narratives unfold. Her chameleonic visual display is charged with emotion, keeping you suspended in a state of flux as she orbits through the spectrum. Stimulated by human behaviour and existence she questions the very nature of being, and invites the audience to explore through her cathartic performance."

To our ears, her sound captures elements of the radiophonic qualities by electronic pioneers such as Delia Derbyshire, through to unlikely melody and harmony akin to that of Ryuchi Sakamoto or Laurie Anderson. 

It's an explorations of strange places with a weird & wonderful sphere, sonically capturing the colourful intensity of Alejandro Jodorowsky's Holy Mountain, or perhaps sounding like a much more out-there, much more convincingly extra-terrestrial Space lady... These are just vague comparisons though... Essentially, her sound is a total world of it's own. 

Hinge, E B U's debut album, is an outer body experience that will conjure up memories you never had before, images you can't quite place but somehow relate to, and a sense of sweet disorientation as you slip into a whirlpool of shapeshifting melody, harmony and frequency.

Curated by Montreal based producer, Jean Grünewald (who goes under the alias ottoman.grüw) and online magazine, Mes Enceintes Font, 'Montreal Dances Across Borders' brings together the best from Montreal's underground dance scene, raising money for good causes and highlighting the principles of solidarity and unity that underpin dance music culture.

Although the compilation is available for free download, MDAB ask for pay-as-you-feel donations, raising money for 'Solidarity Across Borders'. Active since 2003, Solidarity Across Borders are a migrant network based in Montreal. Together they mobilise to support individuals and families who experience unjust treatment within the immigration and refugee system.

We have the first listen on Aquaventure's 'Expanding Uncertainty'; a name that feels particularly poignant. White noise dissonance, watery textures and distorted whispers give way to a punchy arrangement driven by bubbling robotics. A looping simulation of sorts, 'Expanding Uncertainty' is a clear representation of music as an art form.

10.01 BRASSFOOT - BRUNDLEFLY

Sydd Viscose is a DJ, promoter and radio host born and based in London. Alongside cultivating a broad ear covering a range of genres - from alternative groove to experimental IDM and industrial beats - Sydd Viscose’s work centres on campaigning for better equality in the music industry. She is the founder of VAMP Sonic - a platform spotlighting LGBTQIA+, non-binary and womxn artists working in experimental sound and music; the premise being to create a space for full-throttle release of sounds and to build and online & offline community for appreciators of unconventional sound. 

Since it’s beginning, the project has picked up interest from a number of platforms, with Sydd now hosting a monthly residency on Threads Radio, regular shows on Bristol’s Noods Radio (on both of which she’s hosted esteemed guests from around the world including Odete and Astrid Sonne) among a range of well-known radio stations worldwide from Glasgow’s Subcity to Berlin Community Radio to France’s LYL Radio, booking gigs at VFD and Low Profile Studios.



Having started out as part of renowned drag cabaret Pollyanna in Edinburgh, where she soundtracked avant-garde queer performances with disco, house, pop and club classics from the 80s and 90s - her sets continue to encompass these early influences and the euphoric queer sensibility grounded in these tracks.



After two sensational runs as a resident DJ for Pollyanna’s Fringe festival show, she went on to co-found Miss World, an all-womxn DJ collective and club night in Edinburgh, booking gigs around Scotland as well as a holding a monthly residency at Sneaky Petes - holding spots on lineups including Peach, Moxie and Nightwave. 

With over 5 years experience booking acts and curating lineups, her sharp curatorial skills and eye for detail are apparent in her unique track selections and ambitious mixing styles that bring both emotion and high energy. She approaches each mix as an evolving narrative, treating each sound as a tactile object with a specific role in taking you on a journey, one which you’re never sure where it’ll progress.

VAMP Sonic is a platform, party and regular radio show dedicated to the lesser-explored realms of experimental electronica and club. This month, Sydd Viscose invites Kat Nzingha a Philadelphia-based visual artist and sound experimentalist enthused by human morality. They explore genres like ambient, experimental, noise, and electronic club to liberate conjectural worlds and to cause a sense of discomfort.
