amie Teasdale, best known as Kuedo, makes a timely return with the sci­fi designed ‘Assertion of a Surrounding Presence’ ­ his first solo release proper since 2012, and the 2nd issue on his fledgling Knives label after J.G. Biberkopf’s ‘Ecologies’. His celebrated production style remains anterior to modern dance music and electronica, largely by virtue of unbending futurist focus and careful attention to detail. Here flanked by collaborations with erstwhile Vex’d partner, Roly Porter, plus Berlin’s Phoebe Kiddo a.k.a. Mind:Body:Fitness, and Canada’s Egyptrixx, the next chapter in Kuedo’s odyssey expands his sci­fi dimensions with ever sharper contouring gradients, and hyperreal spatialisation structured around recalibrated footwork, drill and techno engines. Scaling from the vertigo­inducing opener to a finale of panicked gamelan drama, ‘Assertion of a Surrounding Presence’ renders Kuedo’s most affective, elaborate reflection of a nowness, divining a metaphysical, cybernetic zeitgeist in the vaulted reverb structures of his Ghost In The Shell nod, ‘Eyeless Angel Intervention’, or the trance fluid T­2000 techstep momentum of ‘Boundary Regulation’, whilst pursuing more tangled emotions and ethereal sensations in the recursive, hyaline gamelan cadence of ‘Border State Collapse’ and ‘Event Tracking Across Populated Terrain’.

Providing the visual framework for 'Assertion Of A Surrounding Presence' is Joshua Petherick. Petherick works across a variety of media, including video, textiles, sculpture and sound, creating esoteric puzzles which often re-contextualise objects and materials using a mixture of both digital and anolog processes. Addressing the complexity of function, his work, like Kuedo's, plays with a sense of the uncanny - fracturing object or image, whose role is questioned and ultimately framed as a residual artifact in an ongoing sequence of possible outcomes. Joshua Petherick is represented by Croy Nielsen (Berlin), Minerva, (Sydney), and Robert Heald (Wellington).

Seeing Myttys perform at H2Ö festival in Turku last summer was a jaw dropping experience. Certainly my favourite set amongst a damn fine line up and I demanded to release something of theirs before they'd even packed away their stuff.

I'd known Heta for years via Olimpia Splendid/Toblerones and Samuli from when he came to play with Clouds. The idea of them as a duo had gold stars written all over it but the results are far beyond my already high expectations. This is one of the best tapes I'll ever put out.

Delving in to the music and attempting to describe what I hear was quite a daunting task and my notes got kinda fun in the process. 
For example Lenak and Street Person made me think of Drunken Fist Kung Fu. Heta's effortlessly cool vocals (and the occasionally perfectly placed scream) echoed by either an imaginary twin sister or the weirdo boy next door. 
Ekkä Ota comes across like an off kilter hip hop soundtrack for a Sci-Fi film. 
Kallupää, Pamsypak and some of the interlude tracks sound, to my ears, beautifully close to the Broadcast and The Focus Group experiments of the "Witch Cults of the Radio Age" album and I hear traces of early Múm stuff in Paksotal. 
Another favourite Foliojakku holds its own unique beauty, quite different from the other tracks. Its machine music with heart and grace which builds and builds until waves of submarine echo's and rapid morse code sequences wash over you. 
Oh and the title track Sloggilukio is the bees knees! 

Certain parts of some of these tunes veer into territory only Finns seem to get away with. I find this hard to explain but there is a certain kind of relaxedness I often hear amongst my favourite Finnish bands which oozes either tons of self confidence or a massive indifference to not fitting into any kind of musical category. Or both. This unpindownable quality is what makes me instinctively trust most of the music which comes my way from there, in whatever form, yet I'm also aware of how blessed I am to have got to know the Fonal/Avarus etc crew so early on. 
The experiments they all create help make that country shine to me and I'm dead proud to finally be able to play a small part in that great history

"In Silhouette" is unmistakably the product of Brian Pyle, who once again returns as Ensemble Economique. Well over a decade ago, Pyle and his merry band of Starving Weirdos popped onto the scene from out of nowhere. Truth be told, that ‘nowhere’ is Humboldt County, California whose grand mythologies about its marijuana industry dwarfs all others. The Weirdos, not averse to method acting through Humboldt’s prized chemistry, stood an unusual chimera in the world of out-rock and avant-garde practitioners. Electronic-Improv, fuck-all auto-didacticism, and monotone psychedelia. Too feral to be AMM, too electronic to be NNCK, too discordant to be :zoviet*france:. As the Weirdos slowed to halt, Pyle’s restless energy insisted that he go on. Hence Ensemble Economique. Over an impressive catalogue of albums, he steadfastly continues down this rabbithole, polishing and refining his craft into a signature polyglot of expressionist collage.

Pyle’s latest opus dials up the cinematic flourishes that have graced many of his earlier recordings, through his sinewed synth-tone undulations, polyphonous ostinato, Wolfgang Voigt pulses, and fractalized cascades of generative serialism. All of this glides through the patterned electronic chiaroscuro atmospheres that are at once ethereal and haunted, dotted with male and female vocals whispering unknowable secrets. This tech-gnosticism flickers with light and shadow through Pyle’s rich production and beckons for the big screen, as Pyle’s work is grandiose in scale, psychologically nuanced, and deeply affecting. "In Silhouette" is the twelfth Ensemble Economique album.

All the tracks on this record were recorded live on September 23, 2002 at the Baltic Centre For Contemporary Art in Newcastle, UK.

This release is dedicated to the people and organisations in Brixton working to protect all that is unique about this district.

Brixton was my introduction to London when I moved here almost two years ago. I had never heard of Brixton before I arrived, nor had I spent any time in London. I ended up here simply because a friend of a friend knew someone with a flat. This document represents the ways I have come to know this district, and through it a little of the rest of London. My work has always begun with the soundscape, and Brixton offers a remarkable one. From outdoor markets, bicycle sound systems, shop stereos and buskers to booming car hi fi systems, sirens, car washes and people simply talking and taking up space on the streets, Brixton is a noisy place. It was through listening to Brixton that I also came to hear voices being raised about how much this area had changed, about rising rents and neglected public housing, about how many people who grew up or used to have businesses here can no longer afford to stay in Brixton. I learned about the role of Brixton as a centre of Black British culture, resistance and musical production, and about how as Brixton has become increasingly gentrified the ways in which some of the sounds associated with Brixton's history and communities were being lost from this area. I learnt about some of the new silences of Brixton. I don't want to pretend that this release could ever be a definitive documentation of Brixton's soundscape, there are many far better situated than me to understand all the nuances of this area. This album is simply about the ways I came to know Brixton through listening, and the respect I gained through this process for the many struggles being waged in this district to maintain it as a community. This album is about arriving somewhere to find it in the midst of major upheaval in its social fabric, and about examining my own role in this as a new white Australian addition to the area. 
A soundscape reveals a lot about a place, through its presences, its silences, its rhythms and its pauses. A soundscape is forever being made by us all, it stitches us together in ways both subtle and sometimes overwhelming. I think in both its openness and fragility the soundscape can reveal something about the process of community making, and its sensitivity to change offers both opportunities and risks.

Leden and Laura's live performances are based on a real-time processing of saxophone’s sounds, using digital devices designed by Fabris himself to sculpt, mould and generate their own sonorities. Laura's playing involves different extended techniques and the use of the mechanics of her instrument, the only sound source of their live set.Their new repertoire combines the emotional power of melody with experimental ambient soundscapes.

Circle Bros is the longrunning onemanproject of Wim Lecluyse (founder of Morc Records). What started out as a way to experiment with sounds and recording techniques, evolved throughout the years into a more song-oriented outfit. The roots are to be found in the world of drone, lo-fi and improvisation, which results in songs that are half improvised, and therefore have a more spontaneous structure. A sort of singer-songimprovisation for those that prefer soundexperiments over traditional verse/chorus-songs.

This fall, Circle Bros is putting out his third full length-LP 'Molen', just like its predecessor 'Rust' to be released on the swiss label three:four records. this album is continuing the soundevolution of Circle Bros: think of gritty, repetetive songs with influences from the worlds of shoegaze, slowcore, drone, noise and folk - somewhere in the same universe where artists like Labradford, For Carnation, Grouper or Roy Montgomery wander. This time, the songs are just a tad slower, more bareboned and maybe a little bit electronic sounding that what we heard thusfar.

Vegetal Negatives is a game of sonic mutations, mimicry, inversions, and association inspired by a text called "On pataphotograms", by the French writer René Daumal – a quasi-metaphysical essay that toys with breaking the conceived separateness of natural forms through poetic imagination. 

The four electroacoustic compositions on the album combine and arrange field recordings, electronic feedback, Buchla and ARP synthesizers, bowl gong and harmonium, textures of detailed acoustic sound, and sustained tones with gentle microtonal beating into a precise musical narrative. She juxtaposes recordings of rooms and empty vessels, natural and artificial climates, spontaneous and staged events. Ahti draws upon Annea Lockwood's ideas about associative movements between sounds based on shared characteristics and sonic energy. Her approach to field recordings is neither diaristic, documentaristic, nor purely acousmatic, but rather it starts out from somewhere in between these notions: the sounds hover between abstraction and the deeply familiar, moving into a realm of poetic metaphor where they are set in relation to each other, fleetingly mirroring or shadow-dancing. Acoustic environments mutate into synthetically derived shadow forms. 

The opening track, "Coastal Inversion”, moves from a seemingly familiar seascape into an ocean of wavelike synthetic staccato patterns, turning itself inside-out on the shore, before diving back into a sea of resonance. ”Rooftop gardens” arranges a series of largely unprocessed field recordings into a dream-logic sequence of upward movement towards the clouds. On the other side, ”Symbiogenesis” brews a slow evolution of wet, airy and earthy sounds and resonant friction. The closing track, ”Chora”, imagines a meditative space of breath: filter resonance posing as organ pipes against a backdrop of breezy industrial hoovers merges halfway with a harmonium improvisation that foregrounds the frictions of the wooden instrument itself, just before filtering out into resonant harmony.

Three:Four Records was co-founded in 2008 by Gaëtan Seguin and Arnaud Guillet. Three:Four Records has been working since 2017 as a "mental stereo pair" made up of Seguin and Maxime Guitton, spreading their musical activities between Lausanne, Paris, Rome and Marseille.
