The Disco Rogues are back on Paper with a follow up release to their excellent Funk Moves and this sophomore E.P. If late night jacking and chugging dance floor action is your thing, step this way.

'Deep Point' is a murky and mucky slice of after-hours house music that has a locked down, heavy groove that is perfect for setting the scene or slowing things down when it's getting twisted.

'IF' is a cinematic hazy highlight that is hypnotic, psychedelic and aimed at the cosmos. Swirling synths and pads wrap around a hook synth stab to create something between 90s Balearica and a lost John Hughes soundtrack.

'Let It All Go' keeps it deep and and trippy with layered synths, guitars, pads and more to create a journey into the outer reaches of above and beyond. What a trip!

'You've Got The' closes off the package and sits perfectly into that 'classic Paper' deep house sound (yeah, we did it before it was all man bags and beards!). There are stubby chords, chopped up guitars, rolling bass and snappy percussion with just a hint of disco peppered over the top to keep things sweet.  This beauty will test the bass bins early doors and fill the floor while it's at it.

Producer, DJ, fervent music aficionado, and record collector Steve Mill has honed a distinctive sound that resonates across dancefloors. Born in Greece and dividing his time between Berlin, London, and Thessaloniki, Steve Mill weaves his rich cultural heritage into evocative melodies and infectious rhythms.

The God Given EP released 12th May on Dirt Crew Recordings showcases Steve Mill’s musical talent and hints at the enormous music collection of which he is able to dip into. It’s the follow up to his great label debut “Love Attack EP” from last year.

The title track, God Given featuring Bongani Mehlomakhulu comes out of the traps as a fully formed Balearic stomper. Dreamy ice-cream-van marimbas enter the fray and deep tribal bass completes the audioscape, setting the scene perfectly for Bongani’s vocals. Thought-provoking lyrics from the viewpoint of someone born without a silver spoon in their mouth but still with the upbeat optimism to succeed in life. “Positive mindset brings a change of flavour / Overcoming challenges helps you stay centred.” Wise words indeed from this poolside masterpiece.

Steve Mill explains: Working with Bongani was super easy and uncomplicated. I first heard his work on a Shur-I-Kan mix. I immediately loved his voice and powerful lyrics. Kid Fonque introduced us, and we started chatting. When I sent him the instrumental, I asked him to write lyrics about the struggle of an unprivileged life. A few days later, God Given was ready.

Next up is Copenhagen Ride - a deep house drumline washed in broad watercolour strokes of warm, laid-back synths. Think of a hazy dusk; daytime giving way to the first twinkling lights of the city as afternoon becomes evening.

Steve Mill gives us the lowdown: This is a tribute track to a holiday with one of my best friends in Copenhagen a few years ago. We’d blast some amazing deep house tunes in the car and travel around the city and the suburbs. The warm sounds inspired this super deep track that came out so easily, having that picture in my mind. The minimal perfection of the city would always inspire me.

Dye the Bip takes us from dusk and onto the dancefloor. This track has an infectiously catchy hook line that will stay in your head way after you return home from the club.

Steve Mill recalls: Dye The Bip came to me one morning. The lead was inspired by the Krystal Klear sound: Easy in the ear, yet catchy and meaningful. The pads and the arpeggio based bassline followed. Some big reverbs on the snare drum compliment the whole package of the track. I had a tune that you can hum and that was my goal from the start!

Duboko Deep is a passionate collector & DJ from of Zagreb, Croatia. His interest for music started at an early age, with his mother and father collections of chanson francaise, jazz music, canzoni italiane, Sinatra, Dean Martin, soundtracks, etc. His passion begun with vinyl records of: disco, italo, high energy (?, Canadian disco, synth-infused, 80s music, soul, until he finally got involved in the electronic music & house in late 80s.
His musical selection is best described as pure, deep, melodic vibes which takes you into a “Duboko” state (“Deep” in Croatian), through his sets, you can feel eclectic beautiful synth works, ethereal backdrops, brooding basslines, oriental sounds, and occasional vocal hooks. His music styles are open minded. He puts in emotional tunes, and it doesn't matter whether they are old fashioned or contemporary. What is important is that they raise this emotional moment which can touch listeners through his selections. And so it has for years, through various clubs, lounge bars, on different kinds of occasions; from museums to beach shows, giving out smiles and satisfaction to his public. Flexi is an independent record store and label located in Lugo, founded by Simone Guerra. Sitting halfway between Bologna and Rimini, the shop opened in ‘84, has always been aimed at DJs and record-lovers, devoted to the sounds of the warm and soulful, of disco, acid jazz and house. Flexi Cuts the label, was born in 2016 and it releases a glorious array of music from talented artists about the globe.

Next up on Flex Cuts is fellow Italian project Club Soda; a trio made up of Nicola on bass, Simone on drums and samplers, and Filippo on keys. Their first LP, Vibin' Places dropped in 2020, and was a versatile collection of electronica that hits different, whether you're a listener, DJ, or clubber.

On this new entitled Basso e Batteria, the A1 kicks off with Sara Loreni on vocals. Sarah also penned the lyrics, and clear echoes of the 00’s vocal house joints can be heard. You may be forgiven for thinking it was recorded in a Chicago basement, as the dirty grooves, thumping bass, and enveloping pads create a free-form vibe.

On the B side Cristalli Liquidi's Remix of the title cut moves hard with bouncing rhythms, a wild bassline, and a catchy vocal cut. Hill's Dub Mix is straight up and trippy; you could be lost in a warehouse at 6am, as its dreamy pads, solid bassline, and rhythms pull you in.

Gin Tonic, the A2, sits well at sunset. It’s a pure jam session that is the signature sound of Club Soda, where congas, DX7 keys, funky bass, and an MPC chops seal the deal of sound.

Three years after his “Call the Doctor” EP, Luca “Curses” Venezia is back on Throne of Blood with “Tutto Nudo.” The digital only EP was written after a move to Berlin and is infused with the fetishist sleaze of his new home, cementing a transformation from the rockabilly influences of his past project DROP THE LIME into a drug chug more fitting with the dirtier corners of European clubs he now frequents.

This new Curses sound is on display in three original tracks. “Tutto Nudo” is a well-rounded number rooted in a simple yet heavy guitar hook and bassline, elevated by polished drums and synths. Italian horror film goes to the disco. Speaking of Italy, “Canini” is Luca’s nod to his roots, with a vocal performance in his ancestral tongue backed up by a cosmic chorus and percussions.
“This Is All A Dream” is the slowest of the three, a track for the beginning of the night or the end, depending on your personality. Its hypnotic chug would get an open mind going any time of day though.

Two remixes complete the EP: “Tutto Nudo” gets reworked by Timothy “Heretic” Clerkin, the always dapper Briton with a penchant for acid. Curses’s hook gets raved up with nothing but the dancefloor in mind. “Canini” gets flipped on its head by Australian musical shaman and co-founder of the Multi Culti imprint, Dreems. Channelling the vibes of a “beautiful men’s club”, he delivers his uniquely oddball version of 80’s electro funk. Breaks and bass and vocoders gather around a psychedelic drum circle, leaving you no choice but to join in.
