Shoko Igarashi's musical journey has taken her to places across the world. Born in the snowy countryside of Tsuruoka in Japan, Shoko then moved to Tokyo, before continuing her education at the Berklee College of Music in Boston where she gained a music degree. This training solidified her path as a saxophonist and flautist, as well as grounding her skills as an arranger and a composer. 

This took her to Brooklyn where she quickly made connections with other jazz musicians, playing across the city at various places and spaces. Not one to rest on her laurels, Shoko upped sticks again, making a move across the pond to Brussels.

It's in the Belgian capital that she founded Maniac Maison with her partner, pianist Casimir Liberski, and guitarist Lucien Fraipont, as a means of experimenting with electronic and jazz composition.

When she's not collaborating, she's making her own colourful electronic music which pulls from a diverse pool of influences like jazz fusion, anime music, Japanese City-Pop and Earth, Wind & Fire. These inspirations are on display on her debut LP, Simple Sentences, which came out last month on Tigersushi Records, and find her creating the perfect balance between bright and uplifting sounds and ones that ground and sooth.

When the head of label Tigersushi asked her to handle their show, Charlotte barely knew how to transition between tracks - she quickly understood that it would enable her to organize all the music that the label was listening to and intertwine their releases, influences, classics & unknown artists, and to mix and match genres. She now plays with ease in clubs, as well as on Rinse France every month.

To come ‘Full Circle’ is to travel the path and arrive back at the point you think you left from.

Full Circle, also known as Alexis Le-Tan (Wonders Ovze World) and Joakim (Tigersushi, Crowdspacer), a long term project with close friends Le-Tan and Joakim music project and “concept band born from loving ears that want to re-process our electronic past.”

They’ve delivered some amazing edits of obscure Goa tracks and remixed the likes of Die Orangen, 10Lec6, and Tapan and released on Good Morning Tapes and Vladimir Ivkovic’s Offen.

“To complete a journey is to learn and to slow down and re-imagine is to enrich – Full Circle hears the hedonistic sound of the 90’s in a light that reflects a different space for our current time and beyond. People in Belgium are quick to complain about wet weather, but not Shoko Igarashi. The new single Rainy is an ode to joy & nostalgia for her humid hometown of Tsuruoka, Japan. 

The song starts out with a drizzle and ends in a deluge of dance vibrations. Refreshing & recharging, Rainy comes along to wash away the dreary dirt and renew the colors in the vibrant multicolor city. Rhythmic raindrops, splashed with multi linguistic melodies, lead us along to inaugurate a new uplifting musical genre "Onsen Music" created by Shoko to name her new album coming out this fall.

The release of Rainy is accompanied by a video by the artist Eri Sasaki. Like two rivers that meet after the downpour, the two artists converged for the creation of a visual adaptation of this celebration of mother nature's showers.
