Chris Madak (aka Bee Mask) epitomizes the dissolution of distinctions between music for the mind and the body. His stunning live performance of ‘Headband’ at the 2014 Labyrinth festival left Van Hoesen dazed and enthralled. This was the origin of the remix found here, which perfectly conveys the themes of ‘Stealth’. The remix is complemented by one of Van Hoesen’s own productions, the epic ‘Breach’.

Both Donato Dozzy and Neel have appeared individually on Time to Express before, here they appear for the first time together as Voices From the Lake. The Italian duo offer more evidence of their distinctive brand of hypnotic techno with ‘Zulu Vortex’, a spiralling percussive workout. This is paired with a track from Wata Igarashi, a rising Japanese DJ and producer. ‘Night’ is a glowing, radiant piece of techno that has become a regular feature in Peter Van Hoesen’s recent DJ sets.

The last instalment of the ‘Stealth’ vinyls focuses on the productions of the Time To Express founder. Reflecting the themes of the series, Van Hoesen offers his own vision of hypnotic techno on 'Shadows & Concern', a powerful and expansive piece. The series is completed in appropriate fashion with ‘Unicorn’, an emotive track that displays Van Hoesen’s more melodic side.

Stealth is a special compilation selected and mixed by Peter Van Hoesen. The fourteen track album pulls together his own exclusive material along with previously unreleased tracks from his closest musical peers. It comes in the form of three EPs (both on vinyl and digital), a digital download as well as a special mix CD. 

The idea here was for Peter to combine a mix album with an artist album; to marry his own music with the sounds he is influenced by. The cultured likes of Voices from the Lake, Mike Parker, Yves De Mey and Imaginary Softwoods, amongst others, all make the cut. “I believe less and less in the artist as a solo subject, whereby the ego of the artist seems to be the driving force,” he explains of the thinking behind this project. “On the contrary, I think we exist within a multitude of connections, who we are is as much defined by who is around us. Stealth is a little reminder of that.” 

Originally Peter intended to edit and remix the tracks he was sent from friends, but instead he allows them to play out in full as they knit with his own style so perfectly. The Time To Express boss here offers us a perfect window into his current musical world. It is one where there is a keen and streamlined focus on trance inducing percussive patterns (especially on his own contributions) and is where techno takes on a spiritual, otherworldly form that truly consumes your mind. “I really feel that a new chapter is starting in me,” he says. “And this project serves as a subtle announcement of that”.

Oscar's Blood is Peter Van Hoesen's tenth solo EP for his own Time To Express label. It features four new tracks, composed and refined in the producer's Berlin studio and properly tested during several shows in late 2016 and early 2017. Both Oscar's Blood and Circumference 12 feature Van Hoesen's take on driving and hypnotic techno. He applies a different approach to Unit Prep and Theoretical Terminal. Both compositions take their cue from subtle yet vibrant percussive patterns, extending into blissful atmospheres.

This is the official preview stream for T2X29 - Peter Van Hoesen: Coast To Coast. Official release date is June 12th 2017.

Coast To Coast vividly presents the many faces of Belgian producer Peter Van Hoesen. Example in case: the title track is a no-holds-barred epic synthesizer composition, recorded at the producer’s Handwerk Audio synth studio. Van Hoesen’s love for widescreen synthesis comes clearly to the fore on this track. It is a beautiful showcase of how techno can be emotive, driving and muscular, all at the same time.
Entrance To Entropic City takes a different path, opting for a much more abstract narrative. Shunning away from the dancefloor, it chooses to hint at concepts hidden below its sonic surface.
Voodoo Benny’s Wishbone takes the listener deep into hypnotic and percussive breakbeat territory. Menacing synth sweeps coil around the drums while a polyrhythmic groove shows off its tension, six minutes long.
Finally, in Empire In Decline - 2017 Dub Van Hoesen reworks his 2008 classic. Shuffling breakbeats form a new base for Empire’s bouncing synth lead.

Coast To Coast - Preview

Hybrid techno tracks full of tension on Time To Express number 30, presented by label founder Peter Van Hoesen. The Belgian producer takes up the opportunity to expand upon his previous work on the Coast To Coast EP. No longer exclusively restricted to straight 4/4 rhythms, Van Hoesen's music investigates hybrid, broken grooves infused with a clear sense of spatial sonic awareness. This is made clear with the first two tracks, Towards Manifestation and Shapeshifting. 

On the second half of the EP Van Hoesen launches two solid techno cuts, shifting from dense bassline work (Concrete Varition) to percussive, shuffling grooves (Fox Tactics). 

As with all previous Time To Express outings a specific I'Ching hexagram was chosen to accompany this release. Hexagram #10 ('Treading upon the tail of the tiger') refers to advancement with care and ways of respectful progress. The title of the EP is a direct reference to the first line of this intriguing hexagram. Nine At The Beginning will be released on November 6th 2017. The Bandcamp release is scheduled for November 1st 2017.
