Depending on whom you ask, Matthew Dear is a DJ, a dance-music producer, an experimental pop artist, a bandleader. He was the founding artist on both Ghostly International and its dancefloor offshoot, Spectral Sound. He’s had remixes commissioned by The XX, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Spoon, Hot Chip, The Postal Service, and Chemical Brothers; he’s made mixes for the Fabric mix series and Get Physical’s Body Language. He maintains four aliases (Audion, False, Jabberjaw, and Matthew Dear), each with its own style and distinct visual identity. He straddles multiple musical worlds and belongs to none—and he’s just hitting his stride.

In the world of French electronic music, Irène Drésel is an anomaly: a polymorphic artist whose techno breaks from the norm with sophistication. Her incisive rhythms and incorporation of distinct sounds – including bells – produce a hypnotic audioscape attached to a distinct, dynamic visual universe. On stage with Sizo Del Givry, her percussionist partner, Irène's live shows are like a pagan ceremony in a rose-tinted secret garden.

 

Her first two albums, Hyper Cristal (2019) and Kinky Dogma (2021), were beloved by critics and audiences alike. A sold-out show at The Olympia in Paris, followed by her performance at the Stade de France at the closing ceremony of the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, launched the illustrious tour for Rose Fluo (2024), her third album, which translates a color into a state of mind. The Rose Fluo tour will culminate in a concert at the Zénith in November 2025.

 

Endlessly versatile, she is also a film composer, winning the César for Best Original Music for Eric Gravel's critically acclaimed film, A Plein Temps (2021).

Studio Venezia is Xavier Veilhan’s immersive installation that filled the entire space of the French Pavilion during the 2017 Venice Art Biennale.
Like a recording studio that would have been struck by a powerful earthquake, the floor, walls and ceilings collided to form a new geometric wooden landscape. Yet despite this chaos, the studio remained fully operational and musicians from all backgrounds were invited to come and work, compose, rehearse and record in front of the daily visitors of the Biennale. Sound engineers ensured the proper functioning of the space where a multitude of instruments were available (percussion-, wind- and string instruments, classical, baroque, electronic and folk instruments). Over a hundred artists activated the installation during the 7 months of the biennial.

This playlist aims to share the music that was created in Studio Venezia and give people a chance to bring it into their own personal landscape, extending the experience beyond Venice.
