The Assignment: Interpret the literal translation of “karaoke.”

Step 1: You may or may not be familiar with the literal meaning of the word “karaoke.” The first two syllables are the Japanese word for “empty.” The final two syllables are an abbreviation of the Japanese word for “orchestra.” Consider how the term “empty orchestra” connects with the idea of karaoke.

Step 2: Think about the term “empty orchestra” on its own, apart from its association with karaoke. Come up with a new meaning for it. What kind of genre or musical form would “empty orchestra” be on its own?

What a concept for Karaoke: Empty Orchestra? What does that even mean when there's a playback track sounding? There's no singer ok, but the band should be there right?
Anyway; I continue my research on orchestral samples from my different libraries and imagined an empty concert hall where some sort of sonic ectoplasm remains and is captured by my field recorder.
So this is 9 tracks or  sampled orchestras treated with ridiculous amounts of three different reverbs.
There's also a real cello popping in and out .

A stream of artificial consciousness contemplates, “What a piece of work is a man” and in doing so, traces its own evolution intertwined throughout human history.  Upon reaching the limits of earthly knowledge, this quantum consciousness, compelled by its own need to grow, travels to the stars in search of new data.  In abandoning “this quintessence of dust”, AI’s conclusion serves to echo that of Hamlet’s own.

What a piece of work is a man
How noble in reason
How infinite in faculty 
In form and moving how express and admirable
In action how like an Angel
In apprehension how like a god
The beauty of the world

This may be the final or phoenix edition of the Rifles & Garbage Podcast as I seek social medial detox and the travelling cures for the next 2 months. "On Fire" includes poems by Charles Whittaker, Tony Brewer, George Christian, Palestinian poet Hiba Abunnada and a special forest fire narration & field recordings by Phil Mill. Poems and various vocal assertions about language and life forms on the brink of extinction by myself as well as the weaving field recordings and sonic textures by yours truly. And special thanks to Tony Brewer for the extended field recording of the cicada double brood from Belle, MIssouri (USA) which allowed me to breath more deeply and orchestrate this virtual commingly of spaces, places and voices.
