The sea knocks on the doors of your unconscious. Wait, it is not something real, it has no chemical trait vaguely similar to water. Rather, it is a metallic fluid, a sea of liquid mercury stretching along the shell of a parallel planet. In this place, floating lights have fun switching off, reigniting, they strengthen generating, emitting electrical discharges of different intensities. In the immersion, the metallic fluid plays as a mind mirror, lights are memory traces, the descent into depths is a fragmented journey in lysergic apnoea, you emerge getting the old oxygen of reality.

Anatolian Weapons - Immersion

Tocca il futuro and Soave Records are happy to announce Tiziano Popoli's new release 'Sull'Accordo Mimetico'. A sound installation commissioned Marco Paolini, artistic director of the ParcoScenico Festival, held in Treviso, Italy, in the early 80’s. 

“Sull’Accordo Mimetico was commissioned by the Italian actor and director Marco Paolini, who - at the time - was the artistic director of the ParcoScenico Festival, held in Treviso, Italy. Since the area where artists and the public gathered after the Festival was located to a very busy street, Marco asked me for a sound installation that could work as some sort of a defensive barrier for the street noise. I suggested that my work, rather than hiding the noise should aim to harmonize the disturbances coming from the street within musical structures and forms, without burdening or saturating too much the acoustic spectrum of the place. In this way, I thought about sonic veils, consisting of repetitive - but also light and discreet - harmonic-rhythmic structures, since the Festival took place in a beautiful centenary park, i also integrated the music with natural sounds and animal calls, always as an attempt to bridge these sound events and the other materials that made up the composition. The human voice constitutes a central element in this musique d'ameublement project, as a constant source of memory of places and times - here with many references to traditional music for children. In its original form, the work consisted of three 2-track magnetic tapes, lasting about 30 minutes each, which were broadcast in sequence. This edition represents a synthesis of the original installation, with a total duration of approximately 56 minutes.”

Ex Wiish is a fleeting dream. The new musical project of Ben Shirken, a sound artist and composer based in New York City.

Shirken is the founder of record label & performance series 29 Speedway which features improvisational electronic music, 4-point guerrilla sound installations, live multimedia performances and has hosted Robert Aiki Aubrey Lowe, Poncili Creación, Debit, Pent, James K and various other New York-based artists. Shirken also produces for and plays modular synths in acclaimed free jazz group ‘Nu Jazz’ with Dan Orlowski of electronic hardcore staple Deli Girls.

Their debut record, “Shards of Axel'', is out on Incienso June 23, 2023. Born from a story-based video game composition; the listener finds themselves as the disoriented main player respawned into a harrowing, metallic landscape, wandering through cable ridden labyrinths, caught in progress traps as digital noises grind past submerged cityscapes.

Ex Wiish - Today, My Friend (feat. Gabrielle Ledet & Dorothy Carlos) [INC-025]

After first appearing on TIF003, @mountfog are back on Tocca il Futuro with 'Fantasma'!

Fantasma was conceived by Mount Fog for the sound installation CHIARA • dispositivo di ascolto a distanza, a site-specific art project curated by Standards, held in September 2021 around the ancient Chiaravalle Abbey in Milan. The idea behind the intervention was to use the iconic lantern tower of the abbey as a “listening device”, through a specially developed sound diffusion system. As an environmental work, the installation could be freely experienced in the surroundings of the monastery, fading away through the village of Chiaravalle until a distance of about 200 meters. By looking for a sort of repetitiveness and ritual within sound, and by triggering unexpected listening practices, the project attempted to interpret the identity of the bell tower as a soundmark of the territory.

CHIARA was developed from an idea by Terzo Paesaggio, with Federgat. Curated by Standards. Technical design by Concrete Acoustics. The artists who took part in the project are Nicola Ratti, Andrew Pekler, Attila Faravelli, Ellen Arkbro, Jessica Ekomane, Marta De Pascalis, Mount Fog.

Fantasma is about a hidden structure and its ghost floating into a realm of strange harmonic overtone meditations.

++ PRESENTATION ++
We are happy to introduce a new format to our catalogue - Resonance! For each installment in the series, two or more members of the Global URL Nation spontaneously bond and collaborate on a multi-track project, such as an EP or audiovisual piece.

For the first edition, we warmly welcome POL100 & Cecco Meraviglia for Espiazione, a journey of soul purification and an exploration of mind-body dualism partly inspired by Dante’s Inferno. Thought and produced as music videos, it gathers the two Italian artists around a common project to be seen and heard. 

Over 5 audiovisual acts, Espiazione combines organic textures, intriguing sound designs and synthetic soundscapes with distorted symbols, particle shapes, morphing glitches and virtual mirages.

The opening act, Preludio, is an anxious and tension-filled ambient dive into the universal themes of death and mind-body separation. It then proceeds to a reinterpretation of Dante’s hell, purgatory and heaven with Fluido, a noise-filled suffocating descent into infernal circles and arhythmic abysses ; Solido, an unstable call for tranquility, a climbing towards purification and cleansing through textured terror, despair and deadly sins ; and Gassoso, a bright and ecstatic atmospheric liberation carried by graceful pads, celestial elements and angelic figures. Expanding Dante’s representation, the release closes with Rinascita, a shimmering and joyful exploration of rebirth as seen by various cultures, returning the soul to a material and earthly dimension.

Experienced as a whole, Espiazione walks a fine balance between life, death and rebirth, to provide us with a touching emotional journey, a subtle celebration of the impermanent cycles of life.

Two years after the release of the first Tocca il Futuro compilation, we are happy to announce the second volume. For this occasion, we decided to donate the proceeds of the sales to the victims of the earthquake that struck Syria and Turkey on 6 February 2023 through the Italian Red Cross association.

Special thanks to Davide Pepe, a multidisciplinary Italian artist, who contributed to the graphic design of the compilation with an image created from the waves of the sea eroding the beach, thus creating a visual effect of the earth rising.

Anima Respinta dal Futuro Vol.2

'The Double Face of the Zero' revolves around the progressive crumbling of the human condition, trapped in a Babel of toxic languages, hypnotised by seductive as much as false myths. The traversed architectures are empty or abandoned; inside, only faint echoes of mechanical rhythms reminiscent/incubus of models destined for passive consumption and the reproduction of consensus. Babbling, bare syllables are all that remains of a one-way communication. The new alphabets of communication systems do not need expressive space but consensus time. This journey is closed, however, by a text that is, in its own way, full of hope and that, like a compass, indicates a possible escape route from this mortal spiral of spectacular-media-political consensus. The sound sources from which the work originates are multiple. All electronically processed so as not to show their origin, in order to place themselves in an “other” space. All this not out of sonic sadism but out of a desire to elaborate a sound palette that is as personal as possible. A palette of sounds that tries to place itself outside the fences and categories that delimit even the area of research music, which instead, by definition, should be as model-free as possible.

“For Barney, Who Was A Bad Dog, But A Good Boy, And Very Much Loved.” comes from Brooklyn-based Dekalb Works, the collaborative project of Austin Peru (Vision Fortune) & Daniel Creahan (Sweat Equity / Alien D). The record summarizes a series of experimentations between live performance contexts and sample-heavy collage work. Since starting their residency on Radio alHara, Dekalb Works found themselves drawn to the act of performing, whether as a live act or DJing, and the space between these two often overly rigid modes.

“For Barney…” draws heavily on the sonic palette of American country and western music, treated through the lens of heavy studio processing and the production techniques of dub, ambient, and trip-hop. Recording hours-long live improvisations with guitar, piano, or drum machines and samplers, they pillaged these sessions as source material. Whereas previous work focused on the voice and the interaction of text, voice and music, these recordings pulled from the sounds of musicians playing together in a room. The arrangement process remains the same, chopping and manipulating small samples and momentary gestures into dense, rhythmic collages.

Kommun, led by Swedish guitarist Finn Loxbo, resides in the tension between
the experience of circular time; an elongated now, and the expectations
contained within our linear perception of time. The ensemble explores the
tension between the individual’s own lines and the collective meaning-making.
Every sound is equally important, concrete in itself, as much a building
block as a decoration. The ensemble collectively improvises phrases that are
formed together as a singular element. They are distributed across the
ensemble’s instrumentation: acoustic steel-string guitar, piano, double bass,
violin, cello and percussion. The phrases are born together and continue on
a cyclic journey, folding into themselves. They are constantly moving but
also going nowhere.
