Homelessness may be costing you more than you realize in Austin.

Ann Howard with the Ending Community Homelessness Coalition says the Austin isn't spending enough money on the issue.  Howard says the average cost to the taxpayer each year for the 250 homeless people who make the most use of city services is about $222,000.  That includes money you fork out for hospital inpatient visits, ambulance rides, trips to the ER, and trips to jail.  

Howard also says if the homeless population is scaring away downtown businesses, then the city is doing something wrong here.
